Motorcycle Ride Through Japan’s Coast—Then I Saw the Dolphin Meat

In this video, we ride from a small coastal town in Wakayama — a place that feels like it’s slowly fading, sustained mainly by tourists visiting the famous Nachi Waterfall nearby. As we make our way north along the coastline toward the northern tip of the Kii Peninsula, we pass through some of the most breathtaking coastal scenery we’ve ever seen in Japan: winding cliffside roads, deep blue ocean views, and quiet fishing villages that feel almost forgotten.
But then, something unexpected happens — we discover that dolphin and whale meat are still openly sold and eaten in this area. It’s a cultural tradition that caught us completely off guard and added a complex, emotional layer to an already unforgettable journey.
This is a side of Japan most people never see. It’s raw, beautiful, and deeply human — a landscape of natural wonder and fading communities, with traditions that challenge outsiders to look deeper.
