Unplanned Day in Niigata City (May 28 2025)
[Musik] Tah [Musik] Ah [Musik] เฮ เฮ [Musik] Yeah.
This morning for breakfast we headed back to Minato Marche Pier. Rebecca got the uni and ikuro bowl again along with some local Sado Island salmon. I revisited Fofo donuts and got some more flavors since it was early in the morning: chocolate traditional and strawberry. I also got a croissant that was good but not their forte. The donuts were excellent.
After enjoying another great meal at this pier, we shipped a box of loot and went to the gym to justify more carbo loading. For lunch we had Darumaya, a local ramen shop that seems to head a huge group of restaurants presumably because it was called Darumaya Group. Their specialty is tonkatsu soup loaded with back fat, all made from local pork. Although the ramen was excellent, I don’t think I can handle the fattiness or saltiness anymore. Rebecca got the light version which excluded the back fat and was very light and delicious as well (and what I’m preferring these days). It was funny because she actually liked the fattier soup more than the light one.
Afterwards we were still a bit hungry so we stopped by the stations grocery store. So far every time we’ve been here, the tonkatsu section had a nonstop line so we got some to try. They were excellent and had a thin, perfectly seasoned crust akin to chikfila, one of americas national treasures. The only downside was the crust wasn’t crispy anymore and we can’t bring it home to refry, but from taste alone it was already excellent. Also the store had a gigantic katsu sandwich that was as big as my thigh. Apparently they only sell 3 per day and someone had already taken one.
Afterwards we headed to the Don Quijote to try our hand at the fishing game again but no luck. Instead, there was a takoyaki game that was giving out those big blind bags and somehow on the second try I got one. And all that newly created luggage space was filled up 😂
