Japan Itinerary for Families | Tokyo with Toddlers & Kids
hey there travel families I’m Carla and I’m Aris and welcome back to journeying Journeys today we are so excited to bring you our Ultimate Guide to Tokyo with kids from giant robots to magical museums and even a poop themed attraction yeah you heard that right we’re sharing everything you need to know to make your family trip Unforgettable [Music] so in this video we wanted to bring together our Japan trip into a meaningful itinerary you can follow share the experiences we had in some of these locations and provide provide some alternative options based on our earlier travels to Japan so let’s get started with day one if you’re like us that have traveled from a long location we’ recommend taking it easy and go to One location so you can just adjust to any jet lag and for this we had to start with hands down one of the coolest places we’ve ever taken the kids team lab borderless now this isn’t the average Museum it’s like stepping into a rainbow of Dreams uh it’s like a world where there’s art and it moves around you so at the beginning In the orientation video they were saying that every room changes the the projection every few minutes so if you go back to the same room it’s not going to look the same right now we’ve seen the images change already hi getting there is super easy it’s in the brand new azub Hills Garden Plaza just a short walk from kamacho station so a top tip here is make sure that you book your tickets early because they really sell out uh quite quickly and if you can try to make the early morning time slot maybe 10 10:00 a.m. so you can beat the crowds but inside it’s a fullon sensory playground GL rooms moving flowers and magical animals that pop up out of nowhere the kids were chasing butterflies across the walls yeah you can really spend around 4 hours there and honestly none of us really wanted to leave yeah so if you’re considering team lab planets instead though head up that one involves walking through water yeah which might be fun for older kids but could be a little bit tricky with younger ones like ours that’s why we chose team lab borderless and it was perfect and of course just make sure that you are going the right location there are two team lab locations and well you may or may not get them mixed up at first like we did so do try and make sure that you are booking the right place day two is all about OD daba Tokyo’s ultimate family fund zone so for this day we kicked off by going to the Miran or the national museum of emerging science and Innovation well it’s science but with robots space stations and Hands-On fun that even little ones can enjoy definitely try to time your visit for the ASIMO robot demonstration seeing a real life humanoid robot walking and talking to blow the kids Minds away yeah there’s a lot to see there not just that and quite a different a number of different floors but of course on the way there and on the way back you’ll see a giant gandam statue yeah this massive 18 M tall robot looks like it walked straight out of a cartoon and then there’s the moment that kids still talk about the unko museum which is really basically yeah you heard it right it’s a poop themed Museum colorful silly and surprisingly educated ational bonus they’re really trying to normalize food we went through all of the activities here they had the bit at the entrance and then around are different activities what you’re hearing in the background are kids screaming because it measures how much how loudly you shout and scream and it will have a uh a video of a big book uh depending on how loudly you shout and this area is for the kids to draw their poop and they have white little white boards in a marker here [Applause] go now if you are looking at other options within ID da but there’s also the Lego Discovery Center it’s really perfect for young kids and there’s also joopis which is like an indoor active Park and video game so that’s for a bit more older um kids yeah although if you’re looking for shopping shopping in Tokyo isn’t just for grown-ups it’s a full-on adventure for kids too yeah that will be day three yep we started in Shinjuku where we hit the brand new unlo flagship store five floors of cute affordable Japanese fashion yeah there is one in Gua but what we noticed is that the one in Shinjuku is a lot wider so you can move around more right and right next door is Yodobashi uh yodashi camera which is actually a giant Wonderland of electronics games and toys and yes there’s a whole floor just for toys yeah and yeah of course when you are there there is the giant godzilla head in one of the buildings so it’s just Godzilla’s head popping out of that building a nice photo of for the family if you’re already in the area and when everyone needs a little breather Shinjuku gu Yen National Garden is the perfect Escape they have huge Lawns Gorgeous Flowers if you go to the right at the right time of the year and only 500 yen for adults and for kids and you can even use your sua card I see a lot of plants and what smells like poop is the what do you call the fruit it’s a fruit uh the fruit when it’s not ripe yet it’s good but when it’s rip it smells does it yeah oh still nice though I like the place why why do you like the place uh because it’s so naturey you like naturey places yeah and uh I have yeah hold it I I like the place because they look to trees that I can see oh do you like trees yeah what else do you like about the place because they lots of WS that looks like that oh you like the Ws yeah oh good good yeah and after that Shibuya Crossing is actually one of the busiest Crossing and one of the most iconic locations there and it’s just one station away and of course don’t leave without saying hi to haiko the famously loyal dog so if you have want to have a bit more shopping other options as well is going to ginsa which is more of a fancy and luxury stores and akih Haba for anime manga and other gaming fans now what to do for day four well day four was all about trains for us and this might have been our kids favorite yeah so we went to the rail May rail May Museum in saitama it had bullet trains and number of different places or trains you can ride on to and yeah experience being a train conductor and it was a lot like a miniature world as well yes and after that we headed to ik bukuro Sunshine city which is like a shopping mall but also a theme park and a toy Paradise all rad into one Renzo we’re now making our way through iabo to get to Sunshine city city what do you want to see there gachapon yes gachapon we’re going to go get it so we finally found it it’s in the third floor of the sunshine Mall Rose and Rose of CCH you from there you have one that you like yeah what’s of course what’s interesting there is the Pokémon Center there is a Pokemon Center which have a lot of exclusive merchandise yeah and you won’t find that anywhere else and just when we thought it couldn’t get cooler we also found the Bandai copon Department yeah 3,000 capsule toy machines it’s the pretty much a kids treasure hunt for tiny surprises so get ready with your cash I know so if your family loves nature more than trains though you can swap this for Mount taka it’s an easy family friendly hike with Gorgeous views and even a cable car ride yeah that we went there in our one of our previous trips so if you do have some extra days and you want to go outside of um Tokyo uh here’s a few options for us from us yeah first up Nico it’s about 2 hours by train and what we really really recommend is Ed the Wonderland I think we’ll need to link our video on that but imagine a venue theme with architecture based on the Edo period and people dressed during that time including yourselves if you wanted to um and apart from that there are temples and waterfalls in the air so lots and lots to explore yep and if you want a bit of a different uh experi there’s also Nagano in the winter there’s like snow monkeys there uh that’s an alternative option that you might choose to like go to don’t forget Tokyo also has amazing theme parks like Disneyland Disney sea and San R puroland all perfect for Magical family day so yeah you can dedicate extra days there depending on how much time you have so before we wrap up here are our top Tokyo family travel tips so make sure that you download Google Maps offline so in case you run out of data you don’t get lost yeah get a second get a passive pasmo or sua card for easy train rides and you can make you can even include it if you have an iPhone you can have a digital version of the sua card as well and for those of you have little kids you know this always pack snacks because hungry kids and sightseeing just don’t mix yeah but there’s a lot of convenience stores so don’t worry it can always refill as you need it so we hope this guide helps you plan the best ever Tokyo family adventure and check out our uh Japan playlist for more of our This guide is amazing — so many great ideas for keeping the whole family entertained in Tokyo! We followed a similar route and added a side trip to Kyoto where we visited the Samurai & Ninja Museum — it was one of the highlights for our kids. Super hands-on with sword lessons, ninja star throwing, and samurai dress-up. If anyone’s planning to include Kyoto in their trip, it’s a must-do with kids. Thanks for putting together such a helpful and fun itinerary!
