Having worn everything from big bows to tiered tulle, Naomi Osaka always brings a delightfully singular style to the professional tennis court. And this Monday, the athlete’s playful approach to sportswear was on display yet again as she hit the court for day two of the French Open, when she faced off against Paula Badosa.
For the match, Osaka wore a baby-pink minidress and cotton candy-hued shoes that were pulled from her collaboration with the her longtime sponsor, Nike.

However, it was her hair that truly stole the show. The former Olympian worked with hairstylist Marty Harper to craft a look that was inspired by the manga series Sailor Moon, as later revealed by Osaka on Instagram.

For the match, the tennis superstar had her hair tied into two space buns (the go-to look for Sailor Moon) which featured pink stripes and were decorated with looping, wired clips resembling flowers. The accessories also coordinate with the pink monogram logo on Osaka’s Nike-branded designs.
Osaka ended up losing the match to Badosa, which she detailed in a candid Instagram post, writing, “Idk guys I don’t have anything motivational to say for this one. I tried my best but this one really hurts. Comforted by the fact that I’ll get referred to as 4x GS winner and never 2025 RG 1st rounder haha.”
She also opened up about the making behind her outfit, adding, “Thank you @nike for letting me draw this fit and trusting me enough to bring it to life (literally don’t know why you guys are always so kind to me), thank you @themartyharper for coming through and turning me into Sailor Moon (it’s giving mahou shoujo ✨). Lastly thank you to everyone for all the kind messages, I am extremely grateful.”
