Naomi Osaka debuted her latest collaboration with Nike for the opening round of the 2025 French Open on Monday in Paris. The four-time Grand Slam champion and Japanese tennis star was bested by Spain’s Paula Badosa in the first round of the second major tennis tournament of the season.
For her match, Osaka wore a floral-inspired uniform in shades of pink. The athlete’s Nike Women’s GP Challenge 1 Osaka Tennis shoes featured shades of dusty cactus and dark team red with sakura-inspired references, a nod to the cherry blossoms in Japan and honoring the ongoing floral theme that’s been present as part of Osaka’s Grand Slam tournament kits during the 2025 season.

Osaka’s sleeveless kit featured a soft shade of pink with contrasted deep tones with coordinated pink Nike sweatbands on her wrists. Osaka also wore a Nike visor in a darker, muted pink shade. She coordinated her few jewelry pieces with the ensemble as well.
In her hair, the decorated tennis player wore pink floral appliqués for an added touch to honor her heritage and emphasize the sakura theme. Following her opening match loss to Spain’s Badosa, Osaka took to Instagram to share a message and details regarding her input on the Nike kit’s design.

“I don’t have anything motivational to say for this one,” Osaka wrote, referencing her opening round loss. “I tried my best but this one really hurts. Comforted by the fact that I’ll get referred to as 4x GS winner and never 2025 RG 1st rounder haha,” she said.
“Thank you [Nike] for letting me draw this fit and trusting me enough to bring it to life (literally don’t know why you guys are always so kind to me),” Osaka wrote. The tennis player also thanked hair stylist Marty Harper “for coming through and turning me into Sailor Moon (it’s giving mahou shoujo),” Osaka wrote, referencing the popular Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Naoko Takeuchi.

Floral motifs were previously incorporated as part of Osaka’s 2025 Australian Open tennis kit back in January. The athlete wore the Nike Women’s Osaka GP Challenge 1 PRM Tennis Shoes featuring tones of sundial and baroque brown. The shoes included sunflower motifs on the lip.
Much like her 2025 French Open look, Osaka also styled floral elements in her hair for the 2025 Australian Open. Osaka added sunflower clips to her long, braided hair and wore sunflower earrings for an added touch of color.
Nike has been the apparel sponsor for Osaka since 2019. The tennis star also collaborates with such apparel and fashion brands and labels as Louis Vuitton, Levi Strauss & Co. and Tag Heuer, among others.
