Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique Manalo will fly to Japan on Wednesday, May 28, to meet his Japanese counterpart to follow through the discussions held by President Marcos and Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba earlier this year.

Manalo’s meeting with Japanese Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya is among his scheduled activities as he goes to Tokyo for a working visit from May 28 to 30.

He is visiting Japan at the invitation of Japanese media Nikkei Inc. to speak at the 30th edition of its “Future of Asia” (FOA) forum with the theme “Asia’s Challenge in a Turbulent World”.

The event, held annually since 1995, has gathered political, economic and academic leaders from the Asia-Pacific region to share views and perspectives on issues facing the region.

During his meeting with Iwaya, Manalo is expected to discuss topics that were touched upon by their respective leaders in May when they met in Manila.

These included the current situation concerning peace and security as well as economic cooperation and development, strong people-to-people ties, and defense.
