Himachal Pradesh 2014 Memories – Vid 20
On 2nd May retracing from Pin valley we took the 32 km road journey to Kaza ( 11,980’ ) having gained a day by not getting proper accommodation at Sagnam. At the entry to Kaza town the Hotel Snow Lion had just opened for business for the season We got a room with a balcony overlooking practically everything one could expect to see at Kaza. The New Sakya Monastery bang in front, the Hindu temple at a higher elevation and the entire town with houses and internal roads. On top of it snow splattered hills as a backdrop complete the scenario. One is capable of covering the small town on feet by taking the narrow mud tracks leading to wider roads. The market area has shops selling every commodity one could think of especially the winter clothing. The gorgeous looking Sakya monastery is opened for tourists on request. A small trek up the hill takes one to the Hindu temple. Staying here for couple of days gives an opportunity to reach the higher reaches to villages of Langza ( 14,520’ ). The snow blocked roads prevented us from going beyond Langza towards Comic and Hikkim. The Kaza town is surrounded by some extra ordinary landscapes with Spiti valley coming to life by snow melt flowing in form of Spiti river in early summer.
