Where I’m going in Japan on my next trip!

My next Japan trip’s coming up! As always, I’ll be filming everything, so there’ll be lots of new Japan travel vlogs coming up every Thursday. This time I’m going to Tokyo (of course!), as well as central Japan. First I’m staying in Nagoya and doing a section of the Nakasendo Trail, then I’m moving to Takayama, a historic town in the mountains, in Gifu prefecture. Depending on the weather and how much time we have, we may go on day trips to Shirakawago and Gujo Hachiman, the water city. Then it’s on to Toyama for the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route, a journey through the mountains of the Japanese alps. After that, we’re taking the shinkansen back to Tokyo. I’ve booked Gran Class, which is like first class on the shinkansen, even better than the Green Car! We may also do day trips from Tokyo to Atami for the beach, and/or Chichibu for the Nagatoro River Cruie. Stay tuned for lots of new videos – and keep an eye on my Instagram (cakeswithfaces) to see what we’re up to!

  1. As someone who lives in Japan. I reccomend Sawara, Chiba. I used to live near their. It's similar to Gion. And the summer festivals there are amazing

  2. Nagoya is my favorite city in Japan!
Rented a car 2 times in Japan. And I would recommend renting a car. You can go places a train/bus will not get you.

Of you can, please visit Nagoya Castle.
Go on a sunny day for romantic pictures.

  3. While in Takayama, try Owaratamaten sweets — they are delicious! The shop that sells them is located in the morning market area, right next to Gyojin Bridge. Have a great trip to Japan!

  4. I highly recommend visiting Shirakawago!! I had the best and freshest locally grown rice there!! 😋
The Gassho-style homes are awesome to experience! We stayed in one overnight. It was a wonderful experience!!

  5. I knew that you lived here in the UK 🇬🇧 and not Japan 🇯🇵 here! I hope you have a fun trip back to Japan soon, Amy, and congratulations 🎊 on 10M views here! 🥳👏

  6. I was in Takayama last November on my last trip and I have a few days in Chichibu scheduled for December later this year, so I look forward to seeing what you think about it real soon.

  7. Hi Amy. When will you go? When in Toyama, the old port is amazing. Easy accessible by tram from the station. Enjoy !!! I will be back in november 😊

  8. I would love to see in the future for you and Phil to explore the Shikoku prefecture and do the Shiminami Kaido as well as visit the surroundings cities and points of interest in the area.

  9. I especially enjoy the videos about the lesser known places! so please don't feel pressured to film the popular things

  10. I love any video you make Amy, just keep em coming!

I would like a video on any language tips you have or if you have learned much

    Thank you

    Kevin

  11. I definitely enjoy your off the beaten path videos more. I find that my nicest experiences have been in the less touristy places.

  12. Funnily enough, our next trip to Japan will also take us to central Honshu. We are planning on visiting Nikko, Nagoya, Iga, Ise, Fukui, Matsumoto, Gero Onsen, Shima Onsen, a mongolian village hotel in Tochigi-ken, and Team Lab Ibaraki. And of course also spend a couple of nights in Tokyo.

Personally, I didnt like Takayama that much. I was there in 2017, and even then, is was so touristy, it felt to me like a "museum village". Its not horrible, but I prefered every other place I have been to in Japan.

  13. Oh wow I can't wait for your next trip! I haven't traveled around central Japan yet but seeing the old post towns and hiking part of the Nakasendo trail is absolutely on my list of things I wanna see. 🤩 Hope you share some inside on Our research of possible bear attacks and snakes. The wildlife is really what worries me about doing the hike hehe

  14. The variety of themes and places put this channel on a higher level than other Japan guides.
I've been planning my trip for nearly 2 years, and I finally hit Tokyo in October.
This channel, your guide book and the card decks have made my planning both easier, and more exciting.
Good luck on your next trip, and we all look forward to your video highlights!

  15. Hi Amy! This itinerary was almost my exact route I took last month. Shirakawa-go was very scenic, and I would recommend renting a car for more freedom/flexibility. We couldn't do the Kurobe Alpine Route because the tickets were oversold; there was bad weather in the days before our visit, and tourists from the previous days were prioritised to rebook. Here, conversely, it was easier to not drive as it would give you the flexibility to either take a one-way trip rather than return. However, driving through the mountain roads was very fun. Factor in a few extra days in case of bad weather for the Alpine route, Toyama is not too far away to fill in those extra days, and we had a great time there. Hope you'll have a lovely trip!

  16. Amy I came across your channel almost two years ago when I first began planning my trip. I leave on Monday and I can’t believe it! I’m so incredibly nervous but also really excited. I’ll be visiting Tokyo, Kyoto, Kinosaki Onsen, and Osaka.

Your videos and guidebook have been such a great resource so thank you❤

  17. Exciting! I have not been to Nagoya yet, so I'm definitely looking forward to your video. And yes, we need more off the beaten track places lol. And a trip report on the Grand Class is always a must. Have an epic trip!

  18. Hope you have an amazing time, am not going until October 2026. If i order your book this week will I get it before you go away?

  19. Last time I went to Japan I went to a festival in Sawara which is just outside of tokyo (they have one in the summer and one in the fall). See if there are any fun festivals like that. I always find them so fun and interesting! Sawara has huge floats and lots of stalls. I'm not sure of your dates but looking for festivals might be fun.

  20. We wanted to do that part of the Nakasendo trail and the alpine route when we were there this spring but could not fit them in. Next time! So I will love to see your videos on them.
We were considering the Shinhotaka ropeway as a day trip from Takayama but I couldn’t get over my fear of heights to do it.

  21. Looking forward to the new places and vlogs😄 I’ve finally booked the outbound leg with JAL in business using my avios. Im beyond happy that the pieces are beginning to fall in place finally 👍😄😄😄

  22. can't wait for ur next trip !!, i really enjoy your videos and benefit lot for my trips as well
i have a Q regarding trains, my next trip will be with my 14 month old baby, should i buy him a ticket to enter the train ? i know that kids younger than 6 years dont require a ticket but can i just ride or i should go to a JR booth and get sort of paper for him ?

  23. My family and I are going on our first trip to Japan and I am most excited to see the Ukai fishing in Gifu! Have you seen or heard about this?
