ANA Business Class “THE ROOM” 777-300ER Flight Review | Tokyo to New York (4K Video)
I arrive at Terminal 2 at Haneda Airport. Let’s enter the terminal. This is the domestic area of Terminal 2. Next to the domestic area is the international area. This international area opened in March 2020, but closed after only 13 days due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The international area then resumed operations in July 2023. Today we will be taking NH106, departing from Tokyo/Haneda at 22:45 to New York. The regular fare is 1,172,170 JPY (8,030 USD) one way. The international area has only been open for about a year and a half, so it is still clean. There is a Starbucks Coffee on the upper floor. And there is a Tsutaya bookstore. From the upper floor, we can see the entire international lobby. In the international lobby, there are only ANA (All Nippon Airways) check-in counters. There are business class check-in counters at the back. ANA Platinum members and Star Alliance Gold members can also use this area. Check in here and leave my suitcase. The boarding pass has a simple design. Here we can find the first class check-in counter and a dedicated security checkpoint. The local time in America and Sydney is written there. There is also an electronic display there. After security and immigration, enter the restricted area. On the left is the Power Lounge. This is a so-called credit card lounge. On the upper floor, there are two lounges: the ANA Suite Lounge and the ANA Lounge. Let’s go inside. The ANA Suite Lounge is available to first class passengers and ANA Diamond members. Since I’m in business class this time, I will use the ANA Lounge. There are many lockers. This ANA Lounge was designed by Japanese architect Kengo Kuma. Now that I think about it, the use of wood on the walls is reminiscent of Kengo Kuma’s design. Let’s take a look at the map of the lounge. This is the entrance. There are various facilities, and now we will look at the lounge’s facilities. These are phone booths. They are small and shabby inside. ANA Pokemon (Pocket Monsters) Kids Lounge. ANA is collaborating with Pokemon (Pocket Monsters) . Famous Pokemon are depicted on the lounge. Nap room. There are only reclining chairs. Computer room. You can work on your computer at the desk. There is a printer. There are quite a few people in the lounge. Beyond this is the dining area. Counter seats. There are power outlets and USB ports in various places, which is convenient. One of the pleasures of the lounge is the buffet. Let’s check out the buffet table. Salads, dressing. About six types of hot meals. There are shumai, pasta, soup, etc. Mini sandwiches. Mini cream puffs, Almond tofu and fruit, cereal. Breads. Red rice, rice balls. Inari sushi (Vinegared rice filled in a seasoned deep-fried tofu pouch). ANA original chicken curry. The rice serving robot Fuwarica is amazing. ANA original chicken curry seems to be popular. Live kitchen. ANA lounge chef’s special diced steak and garlic rice. A wide range of alcoholic drinks. Sparkling wine, red wine, white wine. Four types of beer. Fill up at the lounge before boarding. Let’s take a look inside the lounge a little more. Seats that look like they would be comfortable for one person. There are various types of seats. There is a bar at the back. Snacks to go with alcoholic drinks We can enjoy special cocktails. I ordered a cocktail called Sparkling Blue. It is a cocktail based on sparkling wine. There is also a food ordering system. We can order udon, soba, and ramen. I order on my iphone and pick up my ramen at the noodle bar. I ordered tonkotsu ramen. The amount of ramen is not too much, and it is easy to eat. There is a Japanese sake introduction corner. First class sake (Japanese rice wine). Business class sake (Japanese rice wine). Shower rooms are reservation-based. Scan the QR code to make a reservation for the shower room from my iphone. The shower rooms are popular, so it is recommended to make a reservation early. Receive the shower room key and amenities at the reception. I will use shower room 14. Let’s take a look inside the shower room. The usage time is 30 minutes. Hanger, face towel, and shoe horn. Bath towel and foot mat. Separate shower booth with door. With overhead shower and hand shower. Body soap, conditioner, and shampoo from the Japanese brand POLA. With a toilet from the Japanese brand TOTO. It was cleaned well. Of course, it has a washlet. Let’s take a look at the sink and its surroundings. Lotion and milky lotion from the Japanese brand KOSE. Digital clock. Hairbrush, cotton set, toothbrush, toothpaste. Razor, comb, shower cap. Hair dryer from the Japanese brand PANASONIC. Room temperature can be adjusted. It was a well-equipped shower room. As boarding time approaches, we proceed to the boarding gate. The boarding gate is number 73 over there. Move down to the lower floor. Cosmetics area. What’s over there? ANA’s duty-free shop. Pikachu stuffed toys. ANA original flight bear mascots. There are boutiques of high-end brands such as Saint Laurent. Take the escalator to the lower floor. There are restaurants on the lower floor. It seems like a good place to have a meal before the flight. Let’s look at the plane from the window. The aircraft weI will be flying this time is a Boeing 777-300ER. The Boeing 777-300ER is a large wide-body twin-engine jet aircraft used by many airlines around the world. There is a drugstore in front of boarding gate 73. I arrived at boarding gate 73. The boarding order is from 1 to 5. 1 is first class and ANA Diamond members. 2 is business class, etc. 3, 4, and 5 are premium economy and economy. Boarding begins 30 minutes before departure. First class passengers only board from the first door. Business class passengers board from the second door. After boarding, walk to the back of the aircraft. There are 64 seats in business class (arranged 1-2-1). Even numbers are forward-facing seats. Odd numbers are rear-facing seats. This business class is named “THE ROOM” and was designed by Japanese architect Kengo Kuma. This business class “THE ROOM” debuted on the Haneda-London route in August 2019. “THE ROOM” is only available on limited routes, and the Haneda-New York and Haneda-London routes are operated daily. My seat number is 11K. This is the rear-facing seat. The seat width is 35 inches (88.9 cm) and the pitch is 53.5 inches (135.9 cm). The seat width is 1.5 to 2 times wider than a normal business class seat, so it’s more like a sofa than a seat. It has a shoulder belt. The headrest is just covered. There are two reading lights on each side. Cushion and pillow. Bed pad and comforter. Headphone jack. The half door button at the seat. It is blocked before takeoff. Headphones, slippers, and amenity pouch are originally placed on the seat. Seat belt. There is also a headphone jack here, and a USB-A port. Inside is a life jacket. There are two windows per seat. If the door isn’t closed, I can see the person sitting next to me. The seat pitch is long and spacious. Accent lighting, coat hook. 24-inch 4K UHD screen. Sturdy dining table. Space to place small items. Ample leg room. However, it is prohibited to place luggage here during takeoff and landing. Boeing 777-300ER safety instructions. Storage space. A mirror is attached and we can store small items such as passport. Waterproof disposal bag. USB-A port and power outlet. HDMI port. There is one small bottle of water. The welcome drink can be selected from sparkling wine, orange juice, or water. Personal screen controller. Seat controller. Light switches. Fluffy slippers. Noise-canceling headphones from Japanese brand SONY. Amenity pouch. After the first meal, we look inside. The screen is available in 11 languages. The seat explanation video starts. Half door. Door. There is a partition between the two middle seats. It’s a good video to remember the correct names. I want to try reclining the seat soon. Japanese in-flight announcement before takeoff. Next, English in-flight announcement before takeoff. The safety video starts. This is a limited-time version in which Pokemon (Pocket Monsters) appears. Let’s focus on Pokemon. Your luggage will be placed in the overhead lockers above your seat. A Pokemon called Farfetch’d appears. It is prohibited to place luggage in the aisle. A squirrel-type Pokemon called Greedent appears. Please return your seat to its original position during takeoff and landing. A Pokemon called Lucario appears. Please keep your seat belt fastened at all times. An owl-like bird Pokemon called Rowlet appears. Pikachu appears. Please fasten your seat belt securely. A super-strong Pokemon called Machoke appears. Smoking is prohibited on board. A Pokemon called Jigglypuff appears. Regarding the wearing of oxygen masks. A Pokemon called Mr. Mime appears. Regarding the brace position. A Pokemon called Sandshrew appears. Regarding emergency exits. A Pokemon called Emolga appears. It is prohibited to take photos during evacuation. Several types of Pokemon appear. Regarding how to escape from the plane. This is explained in animation. Regarding life jackets. Pikachu and Pichu appear. Regarding life jackets. A Pokemon called Floatzel appears. Pichu appears. A small Pokemon before evolution of Pikachu. A duck-type Pokemon called Psyduck appears. It was a unique safety video. Here is another video. This is also a video of safety instructions. Instructions in multiple languages. It is dangerous if we do not fasten our seat belt. These were basic safety instructions. In addition, we can ask a flight attendant for an in-flight magazine. Launch Flight Map. A 6772-mile (10899km) flight from Tokyo to New York. The flight time is scheduled to be 13 hours and 10 minutes. Since it is a long-distance flight, I would like to expect ANA’s THE ROOM. There are images from the external cameras forward and downward. The images from the external cameras are 4K UHD. In 2019, ANA was the first airline in the world to introduce 4K quality screens. Takeoff. It is already past 11pm, but the lights in the cabin are bright at the time of takeoff. The lighting in the cabin was so bright that we had to press our cameras against the window to see the night view. Because the seats are facing backwards, the night view to the right of the direction of travel can be seen from this window. We can see Tokyo Tower🗼. The plane took off towards the southwest. The plane had gained enough altitude and the seatbelt sign was turned off. After takeoff, the plane made a U-turn and changed course to northeast. Wi-Fi service is provided on board. The instructions on how to connect to Wi-Fi are clearly written on the screen. Economy and Premium Economy passengers can use Wi-Fi for a fee. Business and First Class passengers can use Wi-Fi for free. The Wi-Fi voucher code will be sent to us by email before boarding, so use that. It’s time for the first meal (after takeoff). The dining table and tablecloth are set. The dining table can be moved back and forth, so we can go to the aisle even during meals. Menu in English. Menu in Japanese. The champagne is Piper-Heidsieck Cuvee Brut (about $49). The other champagne is Drappier 1er Cru Brut (about $44). The meal is served as a single plate, not a course. We could choose between Japanese and International Cuisine, and I choose International. Appetizer 1: Marinated sea bream with parsley sauce. Appetizer 2: Chicken escapéche. Main dish: Sautéed beef fillet. Bread: Baguette, Sakura bread. Pepper, butter. Dessert: Yuzu and white chocolate mousse. I had the marinated sea bream with parsley sauce. It was rich in flavor, but delicious. The chicken escapéche was also rich in flavor, but delicious. The baguette is just the right temperature. The Sakura bread was seasonal, which was nice (flight in early April). The beef fillet was cooked to about medium rare. It was tender. It was better than the sirloin I had on Qatar Airways Qsuite. The dessert was also great. I had the ANA original blend mitoco. It is a blend of rose, jasmine flower, and peppermint. I had the ANA original chocolate ~milk~. I thought the quality of ANA’s meals was high. However, it is a little disappointing to have a meal served on a single plate in business class. This is an amenity pouch from Ettinger London, a high-end British leather brand. But the pouch doesn’t look very high-end, does it? Ettinger London is a historic brand founded in 1934. Let’s take a look at what’s inside the amenity pouch. Explanation of Ettinger London. Lip balm and body lotion from Aveda, an American cosmetics brand. There is also an ANA original eco bag. There are no eye masks or earplugs in the pouch, but you can ask a flight attendant for them. There are four lavatories for 64 business class seats. The interior of the lavatory is more elaborate than usual. There are mouthwashes and dental kits. Toothbrush and toothpaste. Diaper changing station. Toilet and toilet paper folded in a triangle. The toilet has a washlet function. Toilet seat cover. Folding changing station. We can borrow pajamas by asking a flight attendant. The top is gray and the bottom is blue. It is a comfortable pajama. Let’s recline the seat. Turn this and the seat will recline. The flight attendant will make the bed for you if you ask, but this time I will do it myself. The bed is complete. The bed pad is thin. The seat has a special three-dimensional structure mattress specially developed by Nishikawa Co., Ltd. of Japan. The blue comforter is nice. The pillow is also specially developed. The pillow cover is made of 100% Egyptian cotton. Is the blue thing a cushion? Let’s lie down on the bed. The half door can be raised by pressing the switch. The half door can be lowered by hand. The door can be closed by pressing a switch. When the door is closed… There is a small gap here. There is space below and above, so it is not a completely private room, but a semi-private room. The door is about 1.1m (3.6feet) high, so we can take a picture from above like this. ANA’s THE ROOM seats are more spacious than Qatar Airways’ Qsuite, the best business class in the world. Once the door is closed, it becomes our own space and provides comfortable living. There is no pad at the feet, which is a bit of a concern. The bed is 72 inches (182.9 cm) long, so tall people may need to sleep diagonally. Where are we? On the sea. 9 hours and 24 minutes left until arrival in New York. The meal was served on a single plate and finished early, so we have plenty of time. Let’s take a look at the in-flight entertainment. Movies. There are a variety of new Hollywood movies available. The Lion King: Mufasa (released in December 2024). 5 types of audio, 4 types of subtitles. There are Japanese movies, about 10 kinds. There are about 150 channels for movies. There is a wide variety of Japanese music on the audio. There are about 170 channels for audio. NHK (Japan Broadcasting Corporation) and BBC are available for news. There are only Japanese magazines on e-books. I don’t think the in-flight entertainment is that good. We can now watch an introductory video about the Boeing 777-300ER we are currently boarding. There are 116 seats (arranged 3-4-3) in economy class. There are 24 seats (arranged 2-3-2) in premium economy. The premium economy cabin is behind the business class cabin. This is the business class we are currently boarding, “THE ROOM.” The two middle seats allow you to enjoy conversation with your companions. You can also sleep diagonally like this. The first class is named “THE SUITE.” There are 8 seats (arranged 1-2-1) in first class. In first class, more expensive alcohol is available and you can receive better service. List of duty-free items. Some original ANA goods are sold. I rarely buy duty-free items on board. Sky map, weather, information, etc. Lights can be turned on and off on the screen. Accent light. There is a wake-up mode that turns on the appropriate light when you wake up. There is an Active noise control to reduce cabin noise. I turned on active noise control, but I’m not sure if it’s effective. There is a wide variety of relaxation music. I took a nap while listening to relaxation music with headphones. Although it was the rear-facing seat, it didn’t bother me and I was able to sleep. I took a nap for about 4 hours. There are 4 hours and 30 minutes left until arrival. We are currently over Canada and appear to have already passed Alaska in the US. It’s bright outside, so let’s take a look at the view from the window. A beautiful view. This aircraft uses a GE90-115B engine and has the letters GE on it. We can see the aircraft registration written on the main wing. It was good to see the bright view from the window. I will take a video of the seat. I think it will be easier to take photos and videos of the seat when it’s bright outside. Footage from the downward live camera. The 4K image quality is amazing. I was thirsty, so I ordered ANA’s original drink “Aromatic Kabosu”. There was also a small bar in the galley where we could freely take drinks. I would like to see The Lion King: Mufasa (released in December 2024). I’m grateful that recent movies are in the lineup. I’m looking forward to watching the movie. Where are we? When I zoom in, it’s amazing. We are still over Canada and can see beautiful ponds. The plane took this route. We passed through Alaska, the northernmost state of the United States, and then to Canada. It seems that we will head southeast through Canada and go to New York. About 2 hours and 30 minutes before arrival, the lights in the cabin were turned on. When the cabin was bright, the natural brown wood stood out. The design was by architect Kengo Kuma, so it is characterized by the use of a lot of wood. I go to the lavatory and change into my casual clothes. The floor is wet so I have to use the retractable changing table. The lavatory has stylish stone walls and floors. I returned to my seat. About 2 hours before landing, the second meal is served. The scenery in Canada is beautiful. I ordered Shizuoka tea. I chose Japanese Cuisine for the second meal. It is also served on one plate. Tasty Tidbits: Marinated sakura shrimp and cabbage in soy-based sauce. Pickles. Steamed rice. Grilled Spanish mackerel with miso sauce. Miso soup. Everything looks delicious. Sakura shrimp is good because it has a seasonal feel (boarded in early April). Soft rice. When it comes to onboard Japanese meals, I think Japanese airlines are the best. I ordered chamomile tea. The sunset… Where are we? Near Lake Superior. It seems that the border between Canada and the United States is around here. There was no passenger sitting next to me that day. However, if there was a passenger there, it might be a concern. I ordered fresh fruit. It had a homely feel. These are the light meal menus. I was interested in the “Rice Bowl with Miso-braised beef tendon and konjac” so I ordered it. This rice bowl is a local dish from Kobe, Japan. A bowl of rice topped with beef tendon, konnyaku, eggs, etc. This is a recommended menu item. An announcement for preparations before landing. An English announcement by an ANA flight attendant. I feel that their pronunciation is unique compared to other airlines around the world. Many Japanese people are not good at speaking English. The main reason for this is that in Japanese high schools, students are given ample training in reading and writing English, but do not receive much training in speaking it. The seats in THE ROOM are spacious, but there is little storage space. If we put something on the table here, it will be difficult to open the door to the storage space. That said, I think the spacious seats in THE ROOM are great. 35 minutes left until arrival in New York. We are getting pretty close to New York. The plane starts descending. The cabin lights are brightened. ANA generally keeps the cabin lights bright even during night takeoff and landing. If the cabin lights are bright, they will reflect off the windows, making it difficult to see the night view. Another Japanese airline, JAL, dims the cabin lights during takeoff and landing. One website wrote, “ANA does not dim the lights during takeoff and landing as a rule, because they consider lighting to be one of the services they provide to passengers.” The airport runway looks pretty clean on the 4K screen. We watch the landing scene with live camera footage. We landed safely. It’s now 10:16 pm. We were scheduled to arrive at 10:55 pm, but we arrived a little early. This is the final in-flight announcement. It was a comfortable flight. ANA Business Class “THE ROOM” was a great product. I think it would have been better if the meal was a course meal and the contents of the amenity pouch were more substantial. After arrival, a disembarking video is broadcast. This is a limited version disembarking video in collaboration between ANA and Pokemon. This is the international lobby at Haneda Airport Terminal 2. Pikachu is looking at the plane from the window. It seems that Pikachu has gotten lost. Airport staff search for Pikachu. Pikachu is found. Pikachu boards the ANA plane. It was a fun disembarking video. It’s a first class cabin. After this, I have a 9 hour and 5 minute layover in New York. The immigration area was crowded and I waited for 1 hour and 30 minutes. After waiting for 1 hour and 30 minutes, I passed through immigration and then picked up my suitcase at the baggage claim area. We’re now at Terminal 7 at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York. We take the AirTrain to the TWA Hotel in Terminal 5. We can ride the AirTrain between terminals for free. From Terminal 7 to Terminal 5. Wearrived at Terminal 5. There are signs for the TWA Hotel in various places, so we can proceed without getting lost. The TWA Hotel opened on May 15, 2019. This hotel was originally the flight center of Trans World Airlines (which disappeared in 2001). There are machines for self-check-in. It costs $440.51 USD per night. There is a store in the food hall, which is open even late at night. A variety of drinks and food are sold. Salads are also sold. The price is high, about hotel prices. It is a beautiful hotel, and there is a dedicated store. The red carpet in the hallway to the guest room area is beautiful. The hallway in the guest room area. The room is called Deluxe Double Queen. There are two queen-size beds, a desk, a TV, etc. There is a wireless phone charger and USB ports between the beds. The pillows and mattresses are of standard hardness, so I will probably sleep well. It is a beautiful room. A retro rotary phone. Cups, ice bucket, and power outlets. Hangers and hooks. There is nothing in the refrigerator. Let’s take a look at the sink. Face towels and bath towels are provided. The only amenities are soap. Tissues are provided. There is a hair dryer from the American brand Conair. The toilet. It is clean. There is a separate shower booth. Shampoo, conditioner, and body cleaner are provided. I took a few hours of nap and left the hotel. A retro flip-flap type information display. Although the price was high, it was a beautiful hotel. I recommend this hotel for long transits. Terminal 5 is the exclusive terminal for JetBlue Airways. Flight B62293 (JBU2293) departs from New York at 8:00am to Miami. JetBlue is an American low-cost carrier (LCC) established in 1998. JetBlue has code-share agreements with Star Alliance member airlines such as ANA. Security check. Inside the restricted area. There are several shops, cafes, and restaurants in the restricted area. Starbucks Coffee. The price is higher than in Japan. New York-designed tumblers. I look at the plane from the window. A JetBlue plane. It has a refreshing design. Since I didn’t have breakfast… I buy a bagel and a drink here. I buy a bagel. Boarding begins. There are 140 seats in total, arranged in a 2-3 configuration. All seats on this aircraft are economy class. A beautiful cabin. The legroom is quite generous for a low-cost carrier (LCC). I have a bagel and a chai latte. There is a headphone jack and a USB-A port at the bottom of the screen. There is a power outlet and a USB-C port between the seats. The aircraft is an Airbus A220-300. The plane has been pushed back. Drinks and snacks menu. The drinks and snacks shown here are free. Alcoholic drinks are charged. Light meals such as croissants, salads, and cheese & hummus are available for a fee. Other in-flight comfort goods are also available for sale. There are also aircraft painted blue like that. As the name jetBlue suggests, blue is used a lot on the aircraft. Hawaiian Airlines and Virgin Atlantic Airways. It’s a 3 hour 13 minute flight from New York to Miami. The wing of the plane. We can vaguely see the skyscrapers of New York in the background. Taking off slowly. JFK Airport Terminal 5. A view of New York. The plane is gaining altitude. Let’s take a look at the in-flight entertainment. Free Wi-Fi is provided even in economy class. Drinks and snacks menus are also available on the screen. There are a lot of Hollywood movies. There are no headphones at the seats, but you can rent earphones for a fee before boarding. There is less audio and subtitles than the previous ANA international flight. After about two hours, the plane is approaching Miami. We can enjoy the view of Miami from the sky. I want to see the beach. I could see Miami’s beach on the right side of the direction of travel. Miami’s skyscrapers. The plane is heading west. Flying over the Everglades. The Everglades is a natural area of submerged grasslands located in southern Florida. The scenery in Florida changes greatly depending on the location. To Miami International Airport. Landing. Successful landing. The wing boards are standing up. It seems to be a device called a spoiler that slows down the plane. We arrived in Miami at 11:13am. It took more than 25 hours from Japan to Miami because I had a 9-hour layover. It’s hard to get from Japan to Miami. I get off the plane. I came to Miami to board a cruise ship called MSC World America. I go to the baggage claim area and get my suitcase. I go to a restaurant in the airport. I had a light lunch. A variety of menu items. A big cheeseburger. Beverages menu. I ordered fish and chips. A watermelon-based mocktail. I stayed at the luxury hotel Fontainebleau in Miami Beach. I also stayed at a luxury hotel in the Bahamas. Thank you for watching.
Today we will board ANA’s (All Nippon Airways) amazing business class “THE ROOM” from Tokyo/Haneda to New York. After that, we will transfer in New York and fly to Miami on JetBlue Airways.
