DARK History and FAMOUS Food in Nagasaki 🇯🇵

but I also feel like he didn’t just look at
me and say “Get the out.” So I don’t know God   this place is intimidating I got kicked out
again Hello Japan During the end of World War   II in an effort to actually stop the war which
seems a little ironic the US dropped an atomic   bomb and the first of its kind on Hiroshima
3 days later at 11:02 on August 9th another   atomic bomb and the second And to this day
the last ever used actively on people or a   city was dropped over Nagasaki where I am today
The bomb killed over 70,000 people injured over   70,000 more and at the time with a population of
only 240,000 estimated in the city half of the   population of this city was affected tremendously
for life Now in an effort to learn about the city   that we’re in and learn about world history and
all the places we travel to we’re exploring the   history of Nagasaki today Come join as we explore
the lesser told history of Nagasaki Good morning   from Nagasaki in Japan And guess what we’re
wearing pants What a good feeling that is Hey   we’re wearing pants people I could just sit
in this weather all day and I’d be happy It’s   a great day You know what we have to do start our
day right with uh the one and only Lawson’s Coffee We’re back in uh Lawson’s like the convenience   store of Japan And unlike Thai 7-Elevens
it’s all just healthy food Look at this Good Um can I get a big coffee how do iced
latte yeah Big mega Mega Mega Mega Place   it in English English Iced cafe latte Mega
Strong Obviously Come on son Fill her Fill   her Fill her up Fill her up Yes Come on
That’s bomb That’s bomb Thank you Lawson   I think we’re taking a tram because today
we’re heading to the Nagasaki Bomb Museum   and the Peace Park which is kind of what Nagasaki
is known for The city is known to be very like   a peaceful remembrance point of Japan I don’t
know if that makes sense but it’s known to be   a place where they remember the the old war and
um there’s a lot of like memorials and spots to   go learn about it So that’s what we’re doing today
There we go We’re on the tram It says number one   but it’s going the wrong direction Says for
Sofukuji Temple which is what my phone says We’re going the completely wrong way So we’re
going to get out and waste money which is tough Cheer All right switching carts Rough
start We got to get on the other side So on a Japanese tram you get on the back or
the middle walk on no problem and then you pay   on your way out So it’s about 100 yen a dollar50 a
ride I think you can go as long as you want to go   but about 150 yen for that ride that I just took
150 and then another 150 for this So it’s tough Everyone’s very quiet not
a lot of talking It’s very   peaceful respectful I think it’s kind
of funny Not what you get anywhere else I don’t know what he’s saying in Japanese
but every time someone gets off every single   person says something and it’s goodbye
or have a good day or thank you So polite Have a good day Bye-bye All right there’s
our tram experience for the day We’re off   We made it to the It’s actually the atomic
bomb museum stop Obviously it’s a pretty big   uh tourist spot and also just
historic spot So this stop is   literally called the museum We’re
walking to the museum and I see a Anytime Fitness They really are really
are worldwide Did not expect to see that in   uh downtown Nagasaki Japan See quiet streets Just listen Exactly You can’t hear anything
Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Museum the Peace   Hall the Peace Memorial Hall and it’s all
kind of in the same area It’s the Peace   Statue Hopefully we’ll learn about all
of this But to my knowledge this is the   area where the bomb the atomic bomb that
they dropped on Nagasaki actually landed   ticket counter 200 yen it said so two bucks which
is more than okay with me I don’t know what this   is called but this is a huge dome as you walk
in and as we’re going down you see some dates in   the wall 80 75 70 and it’s bringing you all the
way down to 44 45 when the the bombing happened That was easy We’re in Okay let’s do this That’s a map of Nagasaki before the bomb It’s pretty wild They have explanations and
timelines of everything leading up to the   bomb And you can see photos of Nagasaki before
and then a month after the bomb which just look   unbelievable It’s like wasteland and ended up
affecting 70,000 people 73,884 deaths and another   70 plus thousand injuries Only the population
of 240 at the time which would have been over   half the population affected and almost a
third killed It’s nuts Wow And there’s the bomb Assuming it’s a replica it’s called Batman   You can see here some old remnants
of houses and buildings and stuff So as you walk out of the museum just behind me
there and come down the stairs you get to where   I am now the the hypo center of the the atomic
bomb which is the spot directly under where the   bomb exploded So the bomb didn’t hit the ground
in Nagasaki There was no crater or anything It   actually exploded half a kilometer up in the
sky But right behind me is where you can see   a monument we’re going to go check out which is
a monument there to signify the hyper center The   spot yeah directly under at 11:02 uh on August 9th
of 1945 This is where the bomb exploded right over   the city It was the second and last atomic bomb
ever to be exploded in human history for actual   use of attacking somewhere And this here is the
exact location the hypo center they call it of the   bomb 500 meters up in the skies where this guy
imploded you know 70 years ago 80 years ago so   a portion of the Urakami cathedral that was hit
it was about 500 meters away was relocated here   you can actually see it there and that’s the
portion that was relocated and that is right There you can see the shadows of the heat
stains all through here That happens from   like the the heat wave I guess creates like
burn marks and shadows I think in Hiroshima   you can see like these shadows on the floor of
like people and stuff and there’s some photos   in the museum that show what it looks like but
pretty crazy just ruined rubble destroyed heavy   This behind me here was the fountain of peace
that was built in ‘ 69 to commemorate the as a   offering and to commemorate the victims um
of the bombing And it’s built to spray up   water in the shape of a dove to evoke the
dove of peace and uh remember the victims And it was built and signifies an offering of
water to the victims because so many at the   time died of uh burns and uh like lack of water
when the when the bombing happened So that’s that   And then this direction we continue on through
the peace park is the big famous statue I think   it’s just called the statue of peace but we’ll
go over there and get our final history lesson   There’s tons of monuments and sculptures and
statues And then the big one over there is I   believe just called the statue of peace And
all these statues are to signify peace and   the bringing of peace to the city and the world
But the big one as we get closer you’ll see is a   statue of a person And the left hand is hand
up like this And it’s to signify the use of   nuclear weapons I believe And then the right hand
the left hand down like this is to signify the   abolishment of it and to bring peace to never use
them So this is the last kind of famous historic   landmark of the city Or to actually clarify it’s
the peace statue And I was kind of right but kind   of wrong The right hand points to the sky and that
signifies the threat of nuclear warfare and bombs   like from where it came from And then the left
hand points I don’t know where but to peace but   history just got to learn about that might be
uh might be enough dark for the day We’re going   to continue on learned the history Very sad really
cool to be here and learn about A lot of the signs   and stuff all say we want you to remember the
people and remember this history and story to   remind people that we don’t need nuclear warfare
and the damages that it brings for the rest of   the world and the rest of uh the rest of time A
lot of it is to push peace and forever remember   that Kind of rambling but you get the idea There’s
ice cream here We’re going to go get some Uh yeah one good okayeshuh understand what’s your name no go I don’t think they get it I didn’t say
it right I got the go Thank you Oh wow   That’s nice It’s uh it’s shaped in
a rose It’s beautiful That’s crazy   Seemingly like a white rose symbol of
peace or the Hunger Games symbol of deception Vanilla kind of like a
ice like shredded ice It’s really   good though Famous traditional Nagasaki
ice cream So I don’t really know what it   was or why it’s traditional but we tried
it and it’s really good So let’s carry on Kind of sick Okay Although it’s now the
beginning of May and not April we’ve kind   of missed cherry blossom season but we’re
going to go try and catch the end of it   We’re going to a place called Tatayyama
Park up in the hills of Nagasaki at the   bus stop So we’re going to try and
bus there although I don’t have cash   And I think I have to take two buses
I don’t really know but we’re going to try Okay go Okay he let me go So you can’t use a
bail on a Japanese bus or a card They’re   kind so don’t don’t swindle them So he said
I can go but uh save your coins for Japanese   buses is what I’m learning We’re going to
try some food We’re going to try our first meals Okay we’ve found out that the bakery side is
cheaper So we’re going for maple syrup margarine   pancakes We’re also getting beef curry bread
A$138 Two raw Yeah Yeah We’ll try some sushi Okay Bag Uh yeah please 7:30 Thank you Yeah Mhm Less than 7:30 for
packed pancakes beef curry bread and our   first in Japan Maybe against norms but
our first sushi rolls This was $4 eggs Yum I’m not going to lie
it’s damn good M Next Curry bread Really good Soft Curry
There’s some meat in it I think   mint tuna and imitation crab meat with mayonnaise Cheers I’m not a huge sushi guy but
that’s tasty See a little bit of crab   there Something else Some green It’s like
a 2 inch long piece of sushi roll It’s big Two biters That’s crazy Healthy good food Four bucks Hello Japan Look at this This is beautiful Wow Holy I just scaled well from down there up to here It is gorgeous though Absolutely
gorgeous Mount Inasa down there I believe   is the park we were at yesterday
Uh Dejima that area And then yeah   there you go There’s Nagasaki people
Beautiful beautiful little city just encounter Boston trees I believe
these are all them But as you can   see the flowers are gone or the petals or
whatever you want to call it Oh for God’s sakes As if Can’t even go on the viewpoint
What a joke I’m pretty high up But you can’t   even walk up there for what man some things
don’t just work out Some things just don’t   work out That’s okay Sometimes you can’t win
That’s the reality Sometimes you can’t win Are the boys going out here just as I’m walking back into my hotel
room Is this what luxury feels like i’m   uh I’m walking in and they’ve cleaned the bloody
room Look laptop the whole bed everything’s just   organized I just put that there But everything
is so organized and clean every day Fresh coffee   There’s fresh coffee fresh cups fresh uh
tissues bathroom all organized fresh shower   stuff Everything’s put away It’s insane This is
not what I’m supposed to be doing I feel like   I’m imposter syndrome It’s ridiculous We’re
going to try and go to the isakaya across the   road that we went to the first night we
got here and we embarrassingly embarrass   embarrassingly the one that we embarrassingly
got shunned away from We didn’t have to get   shut He just said it was full which it was
Um that we embarrassingly ran away from very   scared because it was intimidating So we’re
going to try and go back for dinner Come on Good Understand good Good Genshi Nice to meet you Genshi Watashi
Ryan Ryan nice to meet you Hello I’m wondering where is good place for food food
yeah Where’s your favorite food place uh what   do you want to eat uh local food Nothing fancy
maybe cheaper Uh I have one idea So it’s really   expensive What do you call this area the Hamachi
Hamanomachi Yes Is it like Hamanomachi is just a   location or does it mean like mall or something
does it mean like shopping or Yeah Hanomachi yes   Is just the area This one Wow What is this
p So I a big parfait Yes Oh wow Oh It’s my   one feet Do pardon Uh to rice Tor to rice Yes I
have not tried it So we’re going to go honestly   check this izakaya It’s crazy how quiet it
gets during the night Look at this All the   streets are completely dead This morning they
were so busy and it wasn’t even loud but it’s   just busy and there was a lot going on but it’s
only 6:00 now and it’s completely quiet which   uh I don’t know is just interesting I guess
So we’re going to go to this place Isizakaya   see if there’s any free spots see if we can
get some food If not we’ll go to Cafe Olympic Taste it Taste it No No No No It’s okay Thanks
Oh I don’t know why Oh that sucks I don’t know   what he’s saying It’s embarrassing I got kicked
out again So we’re going to go to Cafe Olympic   That’s okay One of you guys tell me what he
was saying Leave in the comments if he was   saying get the f out of my restaurant or if he
was saying something else because I don’t know   I feel as if he wasn’t saying get the f out
but I heard no And I honestly couldn’t tell   He didn’t speak English And that’s on me
I’m in Japan so I don’t really know what   to do there If that makes sense I feel like
I was shunned but I also feel like he didn’t   just look at me and say “Get the out.” So I
don’t know Why don’t you guys tell me leave   in the comments What did that man say to me
just then cuz I’d love to know Maybe he was   saying no camera cuz I’m holding the camera
That could have been it I’m not entirely sure We don’t know We’d have no idea But I guess we’ll
go to Cafe Olympic and get a parfait What can we   do darn This is a nighttime nighttime Nagasaki
It’s a gorgeous beautiful city It’s uh going   to somewhere like Tokyo where there’s obviously
way more tourists The people obviously change a   lot and there’s a lot more of a tourist pole and
tourist like trap type thing So I’m very curious   to see as I travel through the south to the north
what the difference is between you know Fukoka   Oita the kind of local eastern town we’ll go to
Nagasaki here and then the difference between that   and Tokyo Osaka Kyoto these huge mega cities where
the population is as much as the country I’m from   So we’ll see I think we found it But it’s upstairs
So I think we have to go in and up Hello Yeah This   could be us Oh look at those Those look nuts I’ve
noticed a lot of like fruit and sweets in Japan   so far A lot of strawberry chocolate a lot of
parfait a lot of like fruit ice cream Looks yum Yeah Yeah Anywhere Okay maybe a new tactic for getting into places
just walking in and going one They understand   that Oh we found it Okay so this page this says
turkey rice Look Yes Oh I don’t know why it says   cheese but it just said turkey rice And there’s
different options So we have like ginger sauce   nostalgic turkey rice Nagasaki turkey which
I’m going to do pork slowly simmered curry   flavor Come get in me Get in me Now we need to
figure out how to say how much God this place   is intimidating Everybody thinks “Oh you’re
so cool You’re in Japan.” Yeah it’s cool I’m   in Japan but you’ve never been scared To ask
the price of something you want to buy in a   casual manner you can point to it and say ikura
I’m just going to say ikura nagasaki Yeah Yeah Ah this one here Really awesome Okay That looks so good Oh we got our little hand
thing or little hand towel Usually so nice   that they do this So it’s just to wipe your hands
clean them from being dirty which I’m okay with We’re living like kings while we’re uh in Nagasaki
and I’m going to take advantage of it Sue me Sue   me I want to I want to treat myself It’s
been 8 months I want a goddamn parfait I love you That was so good Let’s get out of here 7,50 2950 Byebye That was apparently a famous
famous Nagasaki dessert place according   to my concierge or my my reception gentleman
and that was famous Nagasaki rice So it was   really good Absolutely phenomenal I’m pretty
sure that dessert was for two people as well   So you know your boy just bodied it What do you
expect that’ll be all for the day Good day Hope   you enjoyed the history Hope you enjoyed watching
We’re heading tomorrow I’m nervous as balls but   we got to start at some point Has to be done
So um I’m gonna enjoy my luxury for one more   night and I will see you tomorrow Thanks
for watching Go like and subscribe Peace

Today we go to see the Atomic Bomb Museum in Nagasaki to learn about the dark history of the city, hike to the best view in the city, and even try some world famous Nagasaki parfait. I always try to learn about the history of where I am travelling as travelling for me is all about learning, experiencing, and expanding my mind to new culture and things. It was pretty cool and also pretty sad to learn about such a historic event in world history and Japan, especially a more modern day one. Nonetheless to brighten our day, catching a amazing view of the city and some city famous food always does the job. ENJOYYY

Cheers, Dort

  1. Few advices. Ask permission to shoot. Point camera and say ok?. I have never been denied to a food place in Japan… After certain events, Japanese are cautious about anyone making videos. (johnny Somali)

  2. You're doing a nice job of trying to communicate in Japanese. Much more than I ever did when I visited. Looking forward to the next one thanks

  3. Great history lesson, so sad 😞 we need to find out what is going on in the restaurant 🤷🏻‍♀️ i hope u go back there … 3rd time lucky 😆

  4. Also did you realise there’s a Guinness sign on the wall behind you at 14.11 😆 they have Guiness there ? 😆 🤷🏻‍♀️

  5. 21:10 he was saying, “No reservation?” (In a Japanese accent), basically asking if you had a reservation that night or not. They must’ve been expecting a bunch of reservations.

No worries dude. I speak a decent amount of Japanese and (when I travel to Japan) I’m always rejected at places because I don’t have a reservation for the night.
