Rex Reacts: A Lovely New Hotel in Yokohama 🇯🇵🗾
Video from Sukiyaki Travel Japan. Brand new hotel stay in Japan at the Gate Hotel in Yokohama about 4 minutes from Yokohama’s Chinatown in Yamashta Park. Yokohama being about an hour to 90 minutes away by train from Tokyo. Lovely, lovely town. Highly recommend a visit if you ever go to Japan. So, let’s check it out. Let’s unmute our browser audio. BRB taking a shower. All right, then. Oh, yeah. Latest from Sikki Travel. 3 2 1. This time we’re staying in the Gate Hotel Yokohama. Opened in February of this year. And our cameraman was there on the day it opened. So we started at Motoachi Chagai station on the Minato line. Take me there by what? What if I could? When you get off the station, there’s Chinatown right in front of you. And with our bucks to the east gate, we start heading towards the hotel. Gigo game center there, formerly Sega. This channel is so much fun to watch, chat. It’s just really chill and comfy and cozy and it makes you feel like you’re there, but it’s a bit more This is what would qualify more as a short form type content in terms of this sort of um first person travel perspective. There’s a lot of other ones that are like walking tour videos and those can run sometimes for an hour, 2 hours, even 4 hours long. So, this is just right. My cameraman has located some rather charming looking tiles in the floor. They’re embedded into the sidewalk of signposts from each station such as Suk Sakuraki Cho to Yamasha Park. If this is your first time in Yokohama, you won’t get lost as long as you follow the tiles. It’s by the clever system there. Here’s Yamashtik Park Street. You may recognize this from um a couple of games ago. Byakuza like a dragon during the autumn foliage season. The goko trees look the best. Here’s the gate hotel Yokohama where we’re going to be staying tonight. So, just a short walk here and you’re there. It does have a bit of a classic timeless look to it. All blends in rather well with the surroundings. It’s not too ultraodern. Modern enough, but still keeping that sort of classic feel to it. And I like that. Turkey has the problem where too many things are these big towering steel and glass boxes that are far too at times futuristic looking and they just they sort of lack they lack some heart. They they just come off a bit cold, you know, but this is this is a warmer design, I think. Vlad the Impaler, welcome in. Good to see you. How are you? Let’s see. We’ve got the Anker Grill Yokohama here on the first floor. It’s a restaurant where you can enjoy Western cuisine with a grilled twist. Fairly certain we’ll be going here for breakfast in the morning. Ah, yes. Called it. Breakfast venue tomorrow. This hotel costs $126 19,000 yen or about £100 a night. That’s for a double room with breakfast included. So, we go through the brand new entrance to this brand new hotel that opened just last month. Oh, I love the wood paneling on the walls. [Music] So, the front desk is on the 12th floor. That’s That’s a bit odd, but you know, as long as you know where to go. Ah, did that for the views. [Music] And out we come. And the lobby is filled with lots of natural light. The entire space is made of glass all the way to the ceiling. Makes everything feel much more open. It’s an excellent location. You’ve got this lovely view of Yokohama Port. Jazz music playing in the background. Bar lounge over here with a bartender. Make it just about any cocktail you can imagine. Now, there are doors on both ends of the lobby that lead out to this terrace here. The Hikawa Maru is right in front of you. Rather famous ship was a cargo passenger ship built by Nippon Yusen back in 1930 for the route to Seattle, Washington. And it’s been designated an important cultural property as an exhibition area. And the interior of the ship has been restored to its original appearance. And you just imagine grab a drink from the bar, sit out here during the day, maybe late afternoon into the early evening. Martini shake and not stirred. Yes, perhaps even a martini shake and not stirred. You see the Yokohama Marine Tower perfectly from over there on that side. that was built to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the opening of the port of Yokohama. It’s got 360° views from a twotory observation deck. It’s like their own smaller scale version of Tokyo Tower, you could say, or Sky Tree. So, starting on the 11th floor is where we find accommodations. So, you start on the 12th floor and sort of work your way back down. Got this lovely little abstract Pastiche of seagulls. We’ll be staying in room 11:06. Dim lighting in the hallway creating a sense of [Music] luxury. Reminds me an awful lot of older hotels. [Music] The rooms are said to be very spacious. Lots of corridors throughout the property. Let’s see. I believe this is our room here. Insert the card key. Order business card. Handy little travel hack there. Now we got an essential double room this [Music] time. Maximum capacity for two 26 square meters. Much more spacious than hotels you might usually stay at in Japan. And this is the most common type of room in the hotel according to our cameraman. But he’s stylish. Still have a relaxed atmosphere. I like the seats and the small table over there. That’s That’s nice. You don’t see that in a lot of Japanese hotels. This a testament to the spaciousness of the room. Yes. Now, how is the view? It’s on the 11th floor. Plenty of space between it and the neighboring building, so it’s quiet. Doesn’t feel oppressive. Mostly a view of another hotel, the new grand. Ah, more lovely wood paneling. Nostalgic paintings of Yokohama from the Gas Lamba on display. That’s always nice. Little bit of history in your room. Got a bedside table combining wood grain and gold or brass fittings. Room lighting controls. outlets plug into the mains. Everything just right there at your bedside. Bit of clicky buttons and a dimmer switch on the reading lamp. USBC and two-prong outlet. The bed is 180 cm wide. Fairly spacious for two people to sleep comfortably. Ah, and you also get another outlet and a USBC port on the other side. I’ve been to two hotels in my life. Only two. The mattress made by Simmons. What’s the verdict on the pillows? Different softness. They seem nice. They’ve also got down pillows, white pillows, whatever those are, and memory foam pillows. Just need to talk to the front desk about that. Really enjoyed the Hilton Hotel. Plan to visit again. Oh, yes. Hilton generally has very good hotels at all levels. I’ve always been very satisfied with Hilton. Ah, you get an espresso maker. That is posh. Two types of capsules, neither of which appear to be decaf. That’s all right. Two bottles of mineral water with a hotel logo on it. Yes, I’m quite fortunate that I enjoyed diamond status at um at Hilton. So, instant upgrades among other amenities and features. Let’s see. We’ve got an ice bucket in the bottom drawer next to the fridge. It’s like an electric kettle. Bro your tea or get some hot water for ramen noodles. Yeah, mugs and glasses. Oh, got the logo etched on the side. Clever. It’s based on the kanji character for gate. Even looks like a gate. Horizontal lines representing the floors of the hotel. Space between the lines representing the invisible services that the hotel provides. That is interesting. Design created by Takusato. Not only works in graphics, but also a variety of other design genres. Got T sort of an orange T and an L gray. Got different cables to work with in case you need to charge up your devices. You can call the front desk directly from the in room phone there. got a Sony flat screen television. But if may, I know a channel like this, but for food. Um, I would put that in stream suggestions over on the Discord. Py, I’d definitely be interested. I think we could incorporate something like that into our video reacts. Definitely. Let’s see. Lots of information about the hotel here when you first turn on the telly. Information about your rooftop tennis. It’s open until 11:00 at night. No, excuse me, that’s wrong. Open till midnight. The rooftop tennis. Let’s see. We’ve got a sharp branded air purifier. Purifies the air with a plasma cluster. I wonder if that makes the air smell like it’s ionized. You’ve also got hooks for hanging small items. Tall mirror. We left the TV on all night. Lau. That’s all right. Most tellies are very efficient these days. So, you’re not using much electricity. Sliding door type makes opening and closing smooth. That is a smooth opening. Toilet and the bathroom are separate. Almost to be expected in a lot of Japanese construction. Modest type rooms have the shower only and all the other rooms have shower and bathtub. The amenities are provided in the room. So you don’t have to go down to the front desk for any of this. Toothbrush, hairbrush, cotton set. Looks like they’ve got Epsom salt packs for your bath. Hey, those will be very relaxing and soothing after a long day walking around Yokohama. And body lotion. Plenty of space in here. Bathroom is everything’s very accessible. The towels look plush. That’s always good to see. Ah, hair dryer. A salonia hair dryer. Ah, here we are. Action bastard. Welcome in. How you doing? This is definitely more than just your typical unit bath here. Showers made by the German company Hans Grow. It does indeed look very high quality. relax in the spacious bathtub or you know if you’re in a hurry you can just have yourself a shower and go shampoo and conditioner all silicone free. Not sure why you’d want to bathe in silicone. Uses natural ingredients. Feels gentle on your skin as to be expected. tired decompressing after the day job shift today and about to order the high cuff berry flavor from Republic of Tea. Ah, I think I’ll be very satisfied with that. And they’re little teapods, too, so you can put them in like a thermos and just, you know, keep them in there to um steep. Oh, got the fancy to washlet. Customers sometimes puzzled by the triangular shape of the toilet paper, but that’s supposed to be a sign that the room has been cleaned. You see that in western hotels these days, too. Obtain, welcome in. Only bathtubs I can respect are the ones where I can fully stretch my legs out. Shower looks good. Yeah, you sort of have to bend up at the knees there to um fit into most Japanese bathtubs. But yes, it is nice having like a large garden tub to be able to really stretch out maybe with some nice jacuzzi jets or something like that. Gone. And of course, you got the large shoe horn deodorizing spray. Fairly standard kit in most Japanese hotels. Safety deposit box there in the middle of the drawer. Let’s punch in the code. Lock it. Punching it again to unlock. Let’s see. You’ve got a bag there in case you need laundry service. [Music] Two-piece bathrobe. Double gauze material, 100% cotton. probably more fitting for skinny Japanese travelers than a lot of us fat westerners. Right, taking the key card out of the slot and our cameraman’s leaving the room. We’re going to explore the building some more because it’s a lovely property. Next stop, the rooftop terrace. Yeah, up. You want up? 13th floor is only accessible to guests staying at the hotel. You just press that R button. I think you probably have to tap your room key. [Music] Let’s see. What do they say? The hotel’s design concept is a hotel with a fragrant breeze and there are terrace seats throughout the hotel where you can enjoy the outside air. I mean, you’re right there on the water. So, why wouldn’t you be mad to do otherwise? Honestly, they should just go full steam ahead with the pajamas and include a jumbo size and call it a size. LOL. Yes. Yes, indeed. Ah, and here too the seagulls welcome us. Got all that lovely jazz music going. Yes, this is lovely. Then it’ll look even better at night. Magnificent view unfolding before your very eyes. You’ve got 20 seats marked on the terrace. You can bring in your own food from the bar lounge, too. There’s a neighboring property, the Hotel New Grand. You can enjoy a luxurious moment while feeling the natural outside air. Those lovely sea breezes. [Music] priceless experience. On a clear day, you can see all the way from Minato Mai to the Marine Tower. And during the day, you can enjoy a casual open atmosphere. At night, you can enjoy a romantic space. Reminds me of a restaurant in Newport Beach back in California. I bet they took some inspiration from there. Right, back to the 11th floor. Looks like we’re going to check out the offerings from the vending machines. There’s also an ice maker nearby. Let’s see what we’re working with here. A sahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahi products. Mitsia cider bottled water. Looks like craft. It’s either tea or I think that’s a tea of some kind. Oolong perhaps ititocha green tea picati sweat Welch’s grape juice not sure what that item is that says number one on top looks like more bottles of mineral water monster energy you know if you drink those sorts of things prices are reasonable I mean not too bad I 50 yen for cider bottles of water. 150 [Music] yen, 130 for the oolong tea, 170 for picati sweat, though that seems a bit high. But I mean, you are also paying for the convenience of a vending machine there on your floor, steps away from your room. 140 for the smaller bottles of Welches. 110 for the natural mineral water. Now, that’s not bad. 220 something for Monster Energy. That’s um Monster Energy. I suppose that’s to be expected as well. And let’s see, we’ve got Wonder Gold, Wonder Morning Shot Coffee, Deitas coffee, and Wonder Black. It’s like 130 to 150 yen for each of those. So, not terrible. Uh, looks like you’re going to have to bring cash of coins. They don’t take uh IC cards. Always be jelly of Japanese vending machines. Ton of color and light. And you know you’re getting quality goods from them. Yes, they are very they are very well kept up. Even the ones outdoors, not like the grimy American vending machines. All rooms are non-smoking. You’ve got smoking areas on the 12th floor. You know, if you are a smoker, but if you are a smoker, you should probably kick the habit because that’s bad for you. And our cameraman’s going outside not to have a smoke. As far as I know, our cameraman is not a smoker. Main dining area on the first floor, the Anchor Grill Yokohama. That’s where we’re going to have breakfast tomorrow. Ooh, I like that ceiling. Looks like lunchtime’s just over. Staff is preparing for dinner. I want some monster energy right now. Lol. Took the kids to the dentist today. It’s always an all day affair. Oh, I see. Welcome in, FA. We are just um we’re just sort of killing time until um until you and May are ready to go with uh with [Music] Fasmo. So, let’s see. We head to nearby Chinatown. One of the joys strolling around Yokohama is experiencing the rather exotic atmosphere. You can immerse yourself in the um Chinese subculture in Yokama tonight. It’s colorful and bright without necessarily being obnoxious. Some Chinatowns, I won’t point out any particular um can be a bit overwhelming like that. But this Chinatown is a rather lively place, popular with the locals and the tourists. I like the dragon lamp there. That is clever. Also plenty of shops offering takeout sweets and tea, souvenir shops. I do like the idea of takeway for all of these. This is a restaurant called Ding-ding where you can enjoy popular street food menu items. Trying the famous twocolor baked xiaolong bao and we’re getting that to go. Maze out of town. It’ll be just me and whoever else joins. I think I have two others that will join for a bit. Oh, all right then. Just let me know when you’re ready and we’ll hop into a call. Let’s see. We return to the hotel for a light dinner. Oh, boa tea. Good choice. Baked jaong ba large pork buns. Oolong milk tea. Oh, I love the steamed buns. They’re so tasty. M god, that looks so good. They have a variation at a lot of the Japanese conveninis. They’re a bit smaller. They’re not as big as those. Those are massive steamed buns. Um, but they have they have pizza buns at like 7-Eleven and Family Mart. They’ve they’re filled with the with tomato sauce and uh or marinada and um and some mozzarella cheese and sometimes they even like put in little slices of pepperoni or or sausage or something. It’s so good. Oh my god, it’s so good. I I have There used to be this really good steamed bun place uh near where I used to live and I begged them constantly, please put pizza buns on the menu. I I haven’t had them since Japan. And I would I I told them I would pay a princely sum if they would add those to the menu. Um never really um never really found out if they added those. So that will forever remain a mystery. You know, I’ve never had oolong tea. Is it a bitter or sweet tea? Most bottled teas in Japan are going to be unsweetened. So, they will probably taste a little bit bitter. Um, like the Itto in Oyota green tea. That’s probably going to taste slightly bitter. Uh, probably the oolong, too. I don’tve I’ve never really had bottled oolong tea before. I’ve had the bottled green tea. That’s all right. Um, but it’s, yeah, if you’re used to, you know, the sort of sweetened southern American style tea, uh, you you’re probably going to be disappointed. Um, with the with the bottle tea selections in Japan, um, now the milk tea and the uh, oh, what was it? The boba tea that we just saw there, that has been lightly sweetened. So that um that will taste um probably more close to what you’re accustomed to. An absolutely beautiful night view. Can open the window ever so slightly. And our cameraman was curious about the nighttime atmosphere on the rooftop deck. So, back we went and it is glorious. There’s the marine tower all lit up, sparkling in all of its [Music] splendor. It lights up in approximately 12 different colors, sort of similar to what you get with um Tokyo Skytree. and talk of which here we are at Marine Tower. Definitely dwarfed by Tokyo Tower and Skytree, but still a nice place to visit. Renovated in 2022 to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the port opening. Lighting design of the tower completely renewed. Lovely litup dragon sculpture here. 230 LED fixtures. making it possible to realize very sophisticated lighting effects. Oh, look at that chat. That is gorgeous. The Okohama Spring Festival was held to coincide with the Chinese New Year. That explains all of the uh ornate dragon lanterns. There’s the Hikawa Maru that up at night. You’ve got the strings of lights there at the top. Ship’s closed at night, so we can’t go into the interior. Not not at the time of filming, anyway. But there’s the hotel that we’re staying at just a stones throw away. And you might possibly recognize this park. Uh if any of you have ever played Yakuza Like a Dragon, this park is actually one of the settings you can visit in uh in Yokohama. So close enough the hotel is that you won’t get lost even on your way back from an evening [Music] walk. There’s the cruise terminal. That’s where cruise ships depart. I mean obviously since they call it cruise terminal, you wouldn’t expect airplanes to take off from there or for buses. But this connects major tourist spots including the east exit of Yokohama station, Shinko Warf, the Hammerhead, Pier Akarena, and Yamashta Park. There’s the hotel again. This hotel is actually part of a chain developed by Hulik, a real estate developer. It’s the hotels, it’s the fifth hotel of theirs in Japan. They’ve also got ones in Asakusa, Tokyo, Takasagawa, Kyoto, and Ryoku. That’s statue lighting. Jeez, I know, right? A cameraman pre previously stated at the gate hotel in Riyoku. There’s a link that is available, the video is available over at Sukiyaki Travel. Definitely worth checking out. The Gate Hotel Yakohama offers five types of rooms. They call them the gate, lux, classy, essential, and modest. The gate is a suite room. The lux is a two-sided corner room, sort of like their presidential suite, perhaps. The classy rooms offer exclusive views of Yakohama from the large windows. The modest room is a reasonably priced room that offers a comfortable workspace. You can see the we’re staying somewhere between classy and modest. You can see the Yakohama fetus wheel off in the distance. And our cameraman’s falling asleep. Right, speeding up time to the next day. And it’s morning. And through the magic of television, our cameraman slept deeply and woke up refreshed. Exposure to the morning sun resets your body clock. Lovely fountain down there. Very quiet morning, too. It’s hard to believe you’re in Yokohama. Ah, you can see the Minato Midi area. Breakfast is available at the lounge bar on the 12th floor, but we’re headed to the restaurant on the first floor. New Yak is a POV game. Lol. I I’m I mean, funnily enough, some of these locations that were seen, especially Yamashta Park, um those are featured in Yakuza Like a Dragon. So, if you’ve ever wanted to see locations as as they’re presented in the Yakuza games, I mean, you go to Kabakicho to see what Kamaroo is actually like. And for Yokohama, the area around Yamashta Park for Yakuza like a dragon. Breakfast serve from 6:30 to 10. Fairly standard hours. Even if you wake up slowly, you’ll still make it in time. [Music] The restaurant’s located along Yamashta Park Street. Makes it very easy to just drop in. So, even if you’re not staying at the hotel, dashing, grab yourself a bite to eat. Grab some takeaway. Lastic 288. Thank you for the follow over on kick. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner available to everyone regardless of whether they’re staying at the hotel or not. Again, love this ceiling. Love this sort of this arch here. I like that. That’s lovely. Those are some super tall sliding doors. They are indeed 80s style curved ceiling. We love the 80s here. Pets are allowed in the outdoor terrace, so this is likely to become a rather popular spot for locals and tourists alike. Large windows creating a sense of openness, as if the grrenery and harbor scenery outside are one with you. Now, let’s see. Breakfast is 3500 yen, which is about $30 US. That’s not too bad. children ages four to 60 for 2500 yen. That seems a bit pricey for a small child. Um but then 1,500 yen, children age three and under. Um well, they’re free of charge, so fantastic. Let’s see what we have to choose from. You can have Yokohama rice curry, eggs benedict. Yes, I love eggs benedict. Or you can have some French toast. First you choose your main plate and you’ve also got a start a salad deli spot while your main dish is being prepared. Also get local veggies, soup, fruits. Look like they’ve got a delicateess in there. There’s bread, orange marmalade, butter, honey, fresh orange juice, coffee or tea. Semi buffet style. You can help yourself to the salad bar or the deli items or the drinks. Rather nice. And here’s the salad bar. Neatly arranged rows of dishes looking quite stylish. Also, if you’ve never had orange marmalade on toast, you should. It’s really, really good. Can confirm I love orange marmalade. And both orange and lemon curd. Those are delicious. You look at mainly fresh local vegetables grown in Yokohama here at Chart, but it’s always a good good thing to eat local. supports the local economy. Going to seem better for [Music] you. Minister of Health Label and Welfare set a target vegetable intake of 350 grams per day as a health promotion indicator. So, eat your veggies. shot cuts down on travel time for food. Closer it comes from the better the food. Exactly. Oh, like sweet potato bits. fresh spinach. That looks like either zucchini or [Music] cucumber. Cucumber. That’s what it is. We can also get some bread including quaso. Speaking of food, that’s close. Going to be lurking leftovers. Be ready. Going to be working on editing. No worries. Action. Appreciate the lurkies. Oh, honey extracted from a honeycomb. Hold on. Hold on. We’ve got uh green smoothie, oolong tea, there’s a vinegar drink. I don’t know why you’d want to drink straight vinegar, but there it is. And you’ve also got milk. Three types of dressing, including today’s dressing. Don’t know what makes it today. Perhaps it was made today. We don’t know. There’s also tomato dressing. This looks like yogurt. [Music] Or maybe ranch without the ranchy bits, which would probably be something like sour cream or mayonnaise. red and the other tomatoes, green soybean fkaca, and of course the quaso. Toast these up. They’ll be even more delicious. Using the handy dandy toaster over here. Everything’s brand new, state-ofthe-art. Toast up a [Music] catcho. Oh, you chose well, cameraman. Look at that eggs. Benedict chat. Dear God, that looks heavenly. Oh. Original menu item available only at the Gate Hotel is the Yakahama rice [Music] curry. It’s actually a rather tasty looking salad. I wouldn’t mind having a salad like that for breakfast. But first things first, that egg’s benedict. Orange juice hand squeeze the way God intended it. Yes. Let’s eat. [Music] Oh yes. Balance of the dark egg yolk, the rich holiday sauce. Oh, the way the yolk just burst forth. Truly a heavenly culinary experience for breakfast. sent code and setup collab on V2 Studio. Oh, all right. We’re almost done here. Most attractive feature of the hotel. That view of Yokohama Port. Not sure if that’s coffee or tea. Looks like tea. Rexa destroyed every universe. Can I have a cookie? No, you may not. We don’t destroy universes. We build them around here. Open plan building. Everything clean and functional here. Sophisticated rooms, relaxing and comfortable. [Music] One last view in the morning of Yokohama Port. Got the open, spacious view all to ourselves once more. Ah, look at those clouds. It’s a gorgeous day. And if you get up early enough, you can see the sunrise in the direction of Yokohama Marine Tower. Can you imagine, chat, watching the sunrise up there with your coffee or your tea, cleaning staff hard at work as we check out of the hotel. Check in is at 1400 hours. Checkout is at 11. And once again, we rejoin the world. A luxurious moment of relaxation with magnificent views. It’s the Gate Hotel Yokohama. And now we set off on another adventure. Oh, there’s a cave on with cheese. [Music] That’s really good. Hey, and we’re right on time here. About a minute till the top of the hour. So, give that a like. That is really good content. Thank you so much for watching.
