In 2024, the month that recorded the highest number of domestic one-day leisure trips in Japan was May with around 19.35 million trips undertaken, followed by August with almost 18.96 million trips.

While August sees the highest concentration of consecutive school holidays of the year as well as the Obon festival, May is the month that contains Japan’s Golden Week, a week with four national holidays which enables workers of many businesses to take the full week off.
