Inside Vietnam’s Tallest Building 🇻🇳: Sky Views & Fine Dining at Landmark 81
Hi, I’m Wilco and in this video I’m going to be showing you what it’s like to stay in the building behind me, Langmar 81. This is the tallest building in the whole of Vietnam, the second tallest building in the whole of Southeast Asia. And I’m staying on the 39th floor in an apartment, two bedrooms. I’m going to be giving you an apartment tour, of course, but also we’re going to be showing you what it’s like on the viewing platform up on the 79th, 80th, and 81st floors. Is it really worth it? And we’re also going to be showing you what it’s like to eat in one of the fine dining restaurants upstairs. Me and my dad have both been staying here for the last 5 days. And we had an amazing dinner up there. So, we’re going to show you what it’s like. You won’t believe what’s underneath this building. It blew my mind. So, if you’re thinking about staying here in one of the apartments or in the hotel next to me or generally visiting the sky deck, then stick around. Let’s get into it. There is a hotel here. It’s a Marriott hotel. autograph collection, but um we actually booked for an apartment. Now, we booked this through Booking.com. We actually reserved it through Booking.com. We didn’t book it because it wasn’t available to pay for online. And this seems to be quite common with the apartments in here. Also, all these other apartment buildings around here as well. There’s so many of them. I don’t know if you can see that’s L6, L5, L4, and you’ve got the same on the other side of the building over there. So, when we actually booked these, you don’t pay online. You meet the land lady in the building and then you either pay in cash or I did a bank transfer through Wise. Now, the reason why I did that is because the fees to do a bank transfer via Wise for her were a lot cheaper than if I was to have paid on card. She had a PDQ machine, but she was going to charge 3%. So, it worked out a lot cheaper for me to just pay. I think it was three or4 pounds transfer fee through through Wise and then I could transfer the money from my bank into my Wise account. So I’ll put a link in the description below if you want to use Wise to do transfers when you’re here. I found it very helpful in Vietnam. For example, when I rented an apartment for a month, I could do a transfer to make payment for the deposit and the rent, but also if you want to make a deposit for uh hiring a bike as well. It’s just a lot cheaper than paying ATM fees to take cash out of 3% or having to also pay on a debit or credit card. So, let’s go and have a look. I don’t think we’re going to be able to see the apartment from here because it’s so high, but let’s see if we can actually get to it. So, we have a balcony on the 39th floor of here. And our balcony looks directly down onto this view here. It’s crazy. Yeah, I can’t even find figure out in my head where it is, but it’s definitely before that big block where there’s a balcony. So, the first thing that was pretty cool when we got here is that we had our fingerprint scann. We can get in and out of the building. I’m going to show you how that works. Now, it’s kind of weird. [Music] Now, that is pretty cool, right? I’ve never seen an apartment building that has a fingerprint entry into the corridor. But look at this place. It’s very fancy, tiled floors, chandeliers, and then to use the lifts. The way that it works is you have your room card that you tap underneath here. And as you can see, there’s other floors you can visit, but you can’t visit these from the floor. people who are on short-term rentals can’t use the gym, can’t use a swimming pool. There’s a little bit misleading on the listings where it says you can use the gym cuz it’s not going to be an option, I think, unless you’re here longer term, but then 39th floor TI lift hitch free. So, these are smart lifts where it basically tell you which is the best lift to get and on the entrance of the doors, it will show you what floor it’s going to stop at. So it can take people up the building to whichever floors they need to be on. So here we are. Floor 39. I think this is pretty cool that they have like allocated numbers there cuz there’s no buttons on here. So you can’t choose where you’re going once you get in. It’s already pre-selected. One of the things that’s crazy about this building is just the amount of space that you get in the corridors with the windows. It’s a very interesting design. But I think there’s a bit of a floor in it which I’m going to show you in a minute. So when you’re in the bedrooms, technically you are visible to everybody in the corridor. You can’t see it right now. Basically the bedroom is on the other side of that window that we’re looking out right now. So in the daytime it’s fine cuz it reflects. But at night time when your lights are on in the bedroom, people can basically see you from the corridor. When you’re sat in bed, you can see people walking into their apartments, which to me feels like a bit of a design flaw. But don’t get me wrong, like this view just in the corridor area is gorgeous. It’s so bright and so airy. It’s amazing. I can’t get my head around how this this wouldn’t be used within the apartment somehow within the design. Like that’s in my head. I would want to be able to see this from the apartment more with the windows into the apartment. There’s a code. Welcome to the apartment. It’s not actually the cleanest, so you’ll have to bear with me. Um, me and my dad have been out exploring a lot of Ho Chi Min, so I haven’t actually tidied this up. Just decided I’m going to film this video quickly before I get on with some video editing. I think the number one feature about these apartments is the balconies. So, let’s show you it. You’ve got these really cool doors actually that are very lightweight. You just literally slide them along and then you’re straight out about. And also what’s quite nice is that you actually can look out. You’ve got wind protected glass here. So if it is windy, you’re not going to feel too much, but from like your body height, you can look down. And if you look, that’s the entrance we were just stood at earlier next to those palm trees. So, it kind of gives you an idea of this is 39 floors, which is half of the building. So, imagine what it’s going to be like if you’re staying up here at the top of the building. I mean, that’s just crazy. We do actually go up there in a bit cuz we’re going to go and have a look at the sky deck. So, you’ll be able to see what the view looks like at another 40 floors above. But, let me show you the rest of the apartment first. You get great views here from this side of the new underground system which only literally just opened here in Ho Chim a couple of months ago I believe. Also of the river that bends around the city and also just all the crazy traffic and cars. Like one of my favorite things to do in this apartment in the evening is actually just to be sat here watching all of the different apartments around us. All the lights switching on of the different flats, people wandering around, coming out to the balcony. It’s very relaxing for some reason for me to just watch that. So, let me show you a tour of the actual apartment itself. So, you’ve got a massive living area. It’s huge. Nice big tiles. What I really loved about this apartment was the blue walls, obviously. Um, I just feel like it’s quite nice. The green furniture as well and a nice big comfy sofa where me and my dad have just been sat watching some movies on here. You’ve got TV has got like Netflix and everything else. So that’s quite nice to have that homely feel whilst you’re here. Then also I’ve been working on this desk. So that’s quite nice as well having a big desk space. Uh also it’s quite interesting all the lights here have got dimmer in the apartment. Although how much they actually work is a bit of a question. Um there’s also a door entry system here. So, you’ve got basically you can see who’s outside the front door of the apartment. Um, also you can see there’s like elevator and other stuff, but I’ve not actually played with that, so I’m going to leave that alone. So, let me show you my bedroom. This is the smaller bedroom, the non- on suite. So, there isn’t actually a wardrobe in itself, but there is like a storage cupboard. And I actually quite like having these shelves up here. It’s quite useful for just having all my bits and bobs. And then a nice comfortable double bed. Uh the only downside I think to this is that a lot of the charging points are on the floor, but you know, it’s a minor thing. This view is nice, but you’re going to see my problem here that I was talking to you about earlier. So, if I lay in bed and look out the window, you can see that what I can see out the window is the corridor. And like I said, at night time, you can you can basically just see straight through there. And vice versa, if somebody’s in that corridor walking past and I don’t have my curtains closed and I have my lights on, they can just see me laying in bed. You do need to shut the curtains, of which there is automated curtain shutting, which is pretty cool. And also, it helps to keep the room a lot cooler during the day, especially when the sun comes round in the afternoon, which is about to do, and hit this side of the building. It starts to get quite hot. Uh, but it’s again just beautiful seeing all these little tiny windows into people’s worlds and them all lighting up. And then down on this side, we can see the entrance to the shopping center below. And I think there’s a swimming pool as well on the fourth floor, but we can’t get access to that. Then there’s a bathroom here, shower, all the all the things you would expect from a bathroom really. I’m not going to go through all the individual bits, but it’s nice and spacious. You’ve then got the kitchen here with a good fridge freezer, lots of space, and we actually did all take away one night, so that was handy. But you have got a microwave and a kettle and a rice maker and an oven as well, which ovens aren’t necessarily common in apartments here in Vietnam. I found mostly like people would use like a hot plate or which you do have a hob as well. Then on the outside of the balcony, you’ve got a washer, which I did use to do some laundry very fast. So, the master bedroom through here. Let’s have a look. So, you got a big wardrobe there. And then look at this space. Look at these curtains. This is huge. Wow. Look at that view. It’s just amazing. You’ve got so many windows. Amazing view of the river on kind of both sides here. It’s great. And you’ve also got an on suite in this bathroom as well. Amazing views even from the bathroom. Although it’s frosted for your protection. Gorgeous. So, how much did we pay to stay in this apartment for six nights? It was £508. Now, that’s for two bedrooms for two people. And yeah, I think that’s a pretty good price considering it’s a massive apartment with two bedrooms on the 39th floor of the tallest building in Vietnam. Like if you put it into the equivalent perspective of if you were going to stay in the Shard in London like on the 39th floor, I would imagine you’d be paying a lot more than £508 for six nights there obviously because we’re in Vietnam. But I think it kind of gives you that luxury feel here that I was not expecting in Saigon at all. But let’s go and check out what else is available here in Landmark 81 cuz it’s a massive building. There’s actually a fourstory shopping center below the apartments and hotel here. So there’s in the shopping center when you go down to the below ground level minus one, there’s a massive ice skating rink here in a shopping center in Vietnam. Look at it. It’s huge. And it’s also so strange that underneath here it must be so cool to keep this ice skating rink there, but then you go up one level and it’s like 35 degrees outside. And they’ve also got these karaoke booths as well that you can hire where basically you can get two people get a microphone each and you get a touch screen. So maybe if you weren’t in the mood to go ice skating, you can instead take part in the karaoke booth while people are having ice skating down there, which is pretty cool. So, there’s lots of fast food options down here, like you’ve got Laria, the burger place. There’s also a food court that has lots of different restaurants serving food from Japanese, Korean, Hong Kong, Thailand, Vietnam, all in one area, which is really good, very fast. There’s also other dining options as well here, like through restaurants. You got Starbucks, you got Highlands Coffee. You’ve also got lots of options in terms of places to go shopping. There’s Unilo, there’s Adidas, there’s Night Shop. So, there’s loads to do here also for children as well with the ice skating rink. Can I have a higher 79th floor first and then 80th then first? Well, it feels like it’s shaking, doesn’t it? Speed. Oh, my ears are popping. This is the highest viewing deck in the whole of Vietnam. In the highest building of Vietnam. So, yeah, you’ve got the Japanese restaurant here on the 79th floor. Oh, wow. Way in. Yeah, you can see the sun is about to set over there. cuz that building was when we went to that viewpoint there, that was like the 60th floor, wasn’t it? Yeah. I mean, I’m impressed. This is amazing. This view, it’s crazy. I feel like Is that the airport over there? Maybe. Can’t tell. This is a big strip of empty land. But then also, look at all the different I had no idea there was so many different offsets of the river. Just look how busy and active the roads are. Look how many motorcycles there are in comparison to cars. Yep. It’s just all motorbikes. I love the way that the sun as well reflects down on all the buildings and the river. It’s nice. Let’s climb up then from the 71st floor. See what’s going to be higher up here. Very nice. Wow. Going up even higher. Let’s see what’s up here. Looks like they’ve got some kind of like interactive VR machines here. Oh, then this is the outside bit. But I think it’s limited to amount numbers of people that can go up there cuz you got to have a jacket be secured. Ah, thank you. Yep. I think this guy can do it perfectly. Okay. So, that’s the top bit of the building there, which I don’t actually You can see there isn’t any floors in there. It’s just got air going through. And then this is so cool. The view you get from here is amazing. [Music] Look at that view. That’s just amazing. That orange hue in the background looks unreal. Very good. Definitely up there with like the same viewing platform I did in Tokyo with Sky Tree. They have a couple of different menu Hello. Ah, yes. Coobe. Yes. This is one set for one person. So, one set for one person. Ah, so for two people or two sets. Ah, yeah. Come on. We treated ourselves to a luxury dining experience at the top of Landmark 81 at S79 Japanese Tapanyaki. We both went for the Kobe course, which cost around £131 per person. And honestly, I think it was worth every penny. To start with, I ordered the Blue Skies mocktail, which was served in a dome glass, which was also bright blue and very refreshing. First course arrived and we had the Norwegian salmon with caviar served on a tapanyaki pancake. It was delicate, smoky, and a perfect way to open the meal. Next was the curry soup which was very creamy. Uh chestnut, smooth and rich. Then came something really special, the farwa charamushi, a silky steamed egg custard topped with truffle sauce. This was very tasty. Then the seafood continued with the havo daku scallops and uni. That’s a sea urchin served with fragrant yuzu zambber sauce. Then we were served the American lobster cooked in butter on the teapan grill. Simple, buttery perfection. After this, we then had a quick pallet cleanser and it was time for the star of the show, the Kobe sirloin steak. Now this was actually cooked right in front of us. We were welcomed up to watch the chefs cook it and the meat was just beautiful, melting in your mouth, gorgeous. It was served with a Japanese style garlic rice and it was made with premium haraki rice which was cooked in an ouyle with garlic which was comforting and full of flavor. Finally, for dessert, we had a warm French toast with ice cream which was very rich, sweet, and a great way to end the meal. Of course, we finished finally with a cup of tea, soaking in those beautiful views from the 67th floor of Landmark 81 in Ho Chi Min City. So, of course, suitcases at the door means it’s time to leave. We’ve come to the end of our 6 day stay here at Landmark 81 in the apartment on the 39th floor, which has amazing views like this, seeing the planes coming down, balcony. But I suppose the question is, was it worth it? What do you think? I think it was worth it. Certainly worth it for me. I know different people might have different opinions. What I like about this place is it’s the fantastic views. The actual design and layout. The rooms are very spacious. Um I’m particularly impressed with the bedrooms. Like I’ve never slept in a fully glazed bedroom wall that’s looking outside and everyone’s looking in. But you do have the benefit of uh curtains and they’re electronic. So, you just push a button and you’ve got your privacy. Um, but, uh, it’s the sort of thing I enjoy. I’d love to stay here again. Um, if I was coming here, I would probably choose the same place. We didn’t get access, unfortunately, because of our short-term stay to the gym and the swimming pool, but if we were here longer and those things are included, then it would be even better. Um, so yeah, I think bit of extra money, bit of extra luxury. Once in a while, treat yourself. I would come back. Yeah. And it’s def I think because it is out of the way of District One and all the tourist spots, but it’s quite easy in a taxi, isn’t it? It’s like 10 minutes, 15 minutes in a taxi. And you know, just using apps as you do nowadays, convenience, it’s just there. Tap the button, you can see it coming. You know where it is. You know when it’s arriving. Um, and it’s not too expensive. If you said you were going to stay here again, if you would come back, would you stay on this floor? or would you go higher? Oh, if I got chance, I’d be up. I’d be up as high as I could be because apart from anything else, this facility, you know, you you can go straight into the shopping center. We’ve eaten in one of the restaurants upstairs, which was, you know, absolutely excellent food. Again, maybe not for everybody, but um yeah, I would definitely be back. Cool. Thanks. Well, that’s the end of the video. Thank you for watching as always and why not hit that like and subscribe button to see more content on my travels around the world. Thanks, Dad. You’re welcome video and I’ll see you on the next one. Bye bye.
