Hayashi and Demi glace are not the same thing. Both are fairly common in Japan. Usually, Hayashi has thin sliced beef rather than chunks like the photo, though not always.
I find Demi glacé is usually a bit richer than Hayashi, and darker in color. The photo looks like that to me, though honestly it could also just be called beef stew, which is also common in Japan, but I would be a Japanese style beef stew I guess.
