Wakayama Shirahama 2 nights 3 days trip #1. JR Osaka Station. Good morning. I’m currently at Osaka Station to board the Kuroshio bound for Wakayama . I haven’t been to Shirahama since my father took me there when I was in elementary school. 40 years ago? This time, I’d like to enjoy Shirahama without Adventure World. Still, I’ve made a plan that will be enjoyable enough. I have 2 nights and 3 days, so I’ll enjoy Shirahama at my own pace (^^). It’s my first time going by train, so I’m about to head there. I use Osaka Station on a daily basis, but I’ve never seen the Kuroshio. Is the boarding point different? I don’t know where the boarding point is… I always use it, so I underestimated it… It leaves at 7:40, so I’m in trouble. The Kuroshio boarding point was in a completely different place. Will I make it! It was heading towards Kyoto… I managed to make it! A panda! It’s a great seat for panda lovers (^^). Nice expression (^^). This is Shirahama where I’m going. Shirahama Town is located in the southwest of Wakayama Prefecture. It is a resort town with a rich nature facing the Pacific Ocean. It is one of the leading tourist destinations in Kansai, with its rich natural environment and historic hot springs such as Shirahama Onsen. It takes about 2 hours and 30 minutes to get to Shirahama. The sea! I definitely recommend sitting on the right side. There is not much time to see the sea, but the train slows down a little, so you can see the majestic Pacific Ocean. There is also an announcement by the conductor. We are almost there. Arrived at Shirahama Station. I was fast asleep on the way, so I arrived in no time. The wrapping of Adventureland is cool! First, I headed to Sandanbeki. It was all pandas! There were pandas everywhere (^^). Shirahama Station opened as “Shirahamaguchi Station” in 1933, and was renamed to its current name in 1965. There was a free shuttle bus to Shirahama Onsen. It can be used by those staying at hotels and inns affiliated with the Shirahama Onsen Ryokan Cooperative Association. The number of buses was quite small and the time didn’t suit me. So I used this bus. I used the “Tokutoku Free Pass”. I bought a ticket that was valid for three days. The three-day ticket is only available as a digital ticket. The price of the free pass is as follows. One-day and two-day passes are also sold on paper. With this free pass, you can get on and off freely within Shirahama Onsen. Most of the tourist spots are in this area. It feels expensive to pay each time. If you buy a digital ticket, it’s more economical to use the “Transfer Guide” app. If you buy it from the transfer guide, you get a special offer. If you buy it from KANSAIMaas, there are no special offers… I bought it from KANSAIMaas. I noticed that there were no special offers at the ticket counter at Sandanbeki… Arrived! It’s a three-minute walk from here to Sandanbeki. This area is “Sandan Street”. Many shops were closed at the time. If you go straight from here, you will reach Sandanbeki. Wow. This shop sells a lot of things. They also have grilled oysters and turban shells. Let’s stop by on the way back. We’re almost at Sandanbeki. Sandanbeki is a cliff about 50 meters high that towers over the sea . It is characterized by its vertical cliffs that have been eroded by rough waves. The name comes from the fact that it looks like a wall that overlaps in three tiers. We’ve arrived at Sandanbeki. The horizon is beautiful (^^). A sacred place for lovers. Let’s get closer. Is that area Sandanbeki? It’s a cliff that has been eroded and rises vertically. We’ll go to Sandanbeki Cave later, so we can see it up close. For me, the horizon is very beautiful and left a lasting impression. That building is the entrance to Sandanbeki Cave. This cave is 36 meters underground. It is an observation facility where you can see the seawater crashing in up close. There is also a legend that it was a hiding place for Kumano Navy ships. This is a place I was looking forward to on this trip (^^). It seems that a cafe was recently built. Sandanbeki Cave will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2021. The admission fee is 1,500 yen. Armor! If you buy a bus ticket through “Transfer Guide”, you will receive a 100 yen discount as a special offer. Is this the Kumano Navy ship? Let’s go! Beautiful footage! Modern art ? Commemorative photo shoot. This is a tough event for an old man traveling alone ^_^;. Panda x old man… No matter how many times I take a photo shoot for an old man, it’s always tough ^_^;. The inside is quite realistic. It’s exciting (^^). There is a map of the cave over there. This is not just a cave exploration. There are many things to see. There is also a guardhouse for the Kumano Navy. First, let’s go to the cave observation deck. It’s around the place we saw from above earlier. I wonder if the Kumano Navy entered and exited from around here. In front of you is the Juzo Rock. If you look closely, you will see rocks with various faces. I could see a rock that looked like it when I used the zoom function on my smartphone (^^). There is also a rare rock further back. Sand rock? I feel like it is invisible to the naked eye. Zoom! This rock is a mysterious rock that suddenly appeared after Typhoon 21 of 2018. Let’s go see the next one. Where is this? Muro Daibenzaiten is enshrined here. The chozuya (purification fountain) is mysterious! This place is known as a power spot. It is said to grant any wish and bring happiness. It is said to be one of the largest bronze Muro Daibenzaiten in Japan. There is also a mine here. It is a mine that has been mining zinc, copper pyrite, etc. since the Edo period. It is only 200 meters in circumference, but it feels very spacious. There is a naval hut! The Kumano Navy was established during the time of the Genji and Heike clans. It was a naval army based in the southeastern Kii Peninsula, facing the Kumano Nada and Karekinada Seas. They are also known as the Kumano Pirates. Here, a guardhouse has been recreated based on documents. The participation of the Kumano Navy was one of the factors that put an end to the Genpei War. Next, let’s go to a place where you can feel the grandeur of nature. The sound of the waves is amazing! The rough waves are very powerful! There is also something to see further back, so let’s go there. Here you can see the Spouting Rock. There is a large cavity under the rock of the Spouting Rock. When seawater enters the cavity, it gushes out from the hole at the top. It’s hard to see around there ^_^;. What a shame! Finally we saw it! We need to wait patiently. I want to see it again. Maybe it’s no good… We head to the last attraction. The last attraction is the ripples. About 16 million years ago, they were formed by waves and tides. The sand and mud on the ocean floor are moved, and the ripple marks created on the surface of the strata are called this. This is it. You can feel the passage of time. Finally, we went to the Spout Rock once more! Very satisfied! Then we went back up. I thought it was just a cave, but there were many things to see and it was fun (^^). Let’s take a short break at the cafe. We had the Sandanbeki Blend. Sandanbeki Blend 450 yen. When I tried it, I found that it was a blend with a refined bitterness and richness. There is a foot bath right in front of us. Shall we go to our next destination? Up ahead, there is a promenade. It seems that you can go to the end of the cliff. And this is the foot bath we saw earlier. You can get a panoramic view of Sandanbeki while soaking your feet in the foot bath. We stopped by the shop we saw on the way there. Strawberries! Marihime is a strawberry variety original to Wakayama Prefecture. Marihime 200 yen. They are huge! While ordinary strawberries have an average sugar content of around 10 degrees, Marihime has an average sugar content of over 15 degrees. Wow, so good! So sweet! And the strawberry scent is amazing! It was so fresh and delicious (^^). This is a dish you definitely should try (^^). Next we head to Senjojiki. It’s about a 14 minute walk from here to Senjojiki. There is a bus, but we walked because we had time to wait for the bus. You’ll be almost there when you see TAOYA Shirahama Senjo. This hotel was also a candidate for accommodation, but this time we chose Oedo Onsen Monogatari Premium Shirahama Gyoen. I think it’s a good hotel for people who drink a lot. There’s a sign! We arrived at Senjojiki. Parking is free. A fantastic landscape spreads out before us. Senjojiki is said to be about three times the size of the Tokyo Dome grounds. Senjojiki is made of soft sandstone that has been eroded by waves, wind, and rain over a long period of time, turning it into a bedrock that looks like tatami mats laid out on the ground. It has a fantastic pattern. The surface is very smooth. We carefully descended so as not to slip. This was my first time here, and the scenery was unlike anything else in Japan. It’s a place where you can feel the history of the earth by walking and experiencing it. We’ve come to the sea. It’s a dynamic sea with rough waves from the Pacific Ocean crashing on the shore. Looking from the sea side, it feels overwhelmingly vast. I want to sit there! I recommend the view from here (^^). It’s about time to head back. I’ll get some energy. It’s nice to feel like I’m overseas here (^^). There’s a souvenir shop over there, so let’s go and check it out. Akane Senjochaya. Inside, it feels like a roadside station. They sell souvenirs from Wakayama Prefecture. The Marihime that I ate earlier was also on sale. There are various Wakayama specialties that you’ll want to buy. And there was an eat-in corner. Dumplings! There are a wide variety. The dumplings are made using rice from the local Shirahama area. There is a workshop attached to the store, so they are all handmade in the store. Shirahama steamed dumplings 230 yen. There is an eat-in corner, so let’s eat there. It’s a large single rice dumpling. It’s hot because it’s freshly made (^^). Soft! The rice cake is fluffier than I expected. You can really taste the flavor of the rice. It was the softest texture I’ve ever eaten. Next, we head to lunch. The lunch location is “Fisherman’s Wharf Shirahama”. It’s about an 11-minute bus ride from here. When you walk around, Shirahama has a great resort feel. Wakayama ramen! It’s closed today. I’ll come again on the last day. It’s the real deal, so I’m looking forward to it. We’ve arrived at the bus stop. The bus arrives almost on time. I think we’ve arrived. I get off at the Yuzaki bus stop. Fisherman’s Wharf Shirahama. This is a seafood market run directly by fishermen. Wow. There are various kinds of rice bowls. Looking at the photo, it looks like it’s very filling. This is a Japanese dining restaurant that uses Kishu ingredients. They use fresh seafood caught that day. They serve gozen, rice bowls, sashimi, and hot pot dishes. An aquarium! It seems that you can buy fish from the tank and make sashimi. There’s a big sea bream. And a spiny lobster! Spiny lobster is 1500 yen for 100 grams. I can’t decide what to get. Raw whitebait! It’s the most popular, so I’ll go with that. They had a system where you order it when it’s ready. There were a number of seats in the eat-in corner. Seafood bowl (special) 2200 yen Miso soup with raw whitebait 380 yen. It’s huge! There are so many different kinds of ingredients (^^). Whitebait, tuna. Sea bream and yellowtail. Abalone! And eggs. They bring soy sauce and other things from the condiment corner. The ingredients are generous because it’s special (^^). All the ingredients are fresh. They were thick fillets. Delicious! They were extremely fresh and plump (^^). And the abalone was crunchy (^^). It was covered in seaweed. It even had bonito in it! I was right to order the special! The miso soup was filled with whitebait. The miso was sweet and delicious (^^). The seafood bowl is good because you can eat a variety of fish. Salmon came out from the bottom. The whitebait was also delicious. There was squid in it too. There were about 10 types of ingredients in total. The raw whitebait was hot and fluffy. There was a lot of ingredients and it was a seafood bowl with a high cost performance and I was very satisfied (^^). The sea is right next to here. It feels good. You can see Shirarahama Beach from here. I will go to Shirarahama Beach tomorrow. It’s about time to head to the hotel to check in. The hotel I’m staying at today is Oedo Onsen Monogatari Premium Shirahama Gyoen. It’s one of the hotels I’ve wanted to stay at for a long time. I also wanted to go to Shirarahama Beach. I’ll save that for tomorrow (^^). The sea is so beautiful! We arrived at Shirahama Pier. Tsuna Shirazu Bay is calm. It’s about a 5-minute walk from here to the hotel. On the way, we saw Hotel Kawakyu. We’ll be going to the museum tomorrow. What a beautiful hotel! It will be completely renovated and reopened on February 16, 2024. It has an exterior that looks worthy of being a premium hotel in Oedo. Let’s go inside. The inside has also been renovated. It was very beautiful (^^). There is also a garden. You can feel the Japanese atmosphere. The lounge offers all-you-can-drink alcohol (^^). What kind of room is it? This room seems to have been renovated as well. It is bright and clean. Wow. Ocean view. Hotel Kawakyu is right in front of you (^^). This room has an open-air bath. There is also an area where you can relax. It looks like you can fully enjoy the resort atmosphere! . There is quite a bit of time until dinner, so I will relax in the hotel. It is almost time for dinner. The restaurant is also beautiful (^^). The specialty hot spring steamed dish is delicious. There was all-you-can-eat turban shells. I will sleep now. Good morning. Today is also a good day for sightseeing (^^). There was a lot of breakfast. I checked out and headed to Shirarahama Beach. Shirarahama Beach is a long way from here. I will take the bus. I left my luggage at the hotel so I am light (¨̮). The area around the pier is really peaceful. This is Meiko Bus, who is taking care of me on this trip. I have arrived in the center of Shirahama. A great hotel! . Shirarahama Beach is right there. There is an octopus playground (^^). Here we are! . This is Shirarahama Beach! . The contrast between the white sand and the blue sea is incredibly beautiful! . The coastline is about 620 meters. In 2000, it was tied up with Hawaii’s Waikiki Beach as a “sister beach.” It’s so white! . The main component of the sand is quartz. High-purity quartz sand. Reflects sunlight and shines dazzlingly white, which is the biggest factor in the “whiteness” of Shirarahama Beach. It’s so smooth. It doesn’t seem like it would hurt to walk barefoot on it. The particles are very fine and smooth to the touch, making it comfortable. It has the atmosphere of an overseas beach resort. It was an old natural sand beach, but. Due to the influence of ocean currents and waves, the amount of sand has decreased. It is being replenished with white sand from Australia. The sea is so beautiful (^^). Its transparency is comparable to that of the sea in Okinawa. Because the white quartz sand reflects sunlight well. The color of the sea is bright and crystal clear. The change from emerald green to blue is also beautiful. There is an airport nearby so it feels like Okinawa (^^). I’m glad I came (^^). I’m sure there are a lot of people there during the swimming season. Shirarahama was amazing (^^). Next, we headed to the foot bath. You can bathe in the foot bath while looking at the famous “Engetsuto Island.” I wanted to see Engetsuto up close, but the bus time didn’t work out… Is this it? The foot bath we’re going to now is “Shirahama Mifune Foot Bath.” It’s a 7-minute walk from Shirarahama. It’s a foot bath with a nice atmosphere. There are many foot bath spots in Shirahama. It has a roof so you can use it even in the rain. And we can see Engetsuto Island. It is called “Engetsuto Island” because there is a full moon-shaped hole in the center of the island. If you go around it, you can see it up close. Let’s go in. “Honkakujihigai” is. It was discovered in Shirahama in 1929 (Showa 4). The foot bath is warm and feels good. This is Engetsuto Island seen from the foot bath. It warms up quite a bit if you soak in it for a long time. What an amazing formation. Let’s go and see it. It looks like a wash rock. Let’s go further. If you look closely, you can see a crack. It looks like the rock is submerged. It was a mysterious place. I’m getting a little scared so I’ll go back. It was a place with a mysterious formation. I wonder if the formation I was looking at earlier is a mudstone vein. There was a shrine right next to it, so let’s go there. Kumano Sansho Shrine. This shrine is said to enshrine the three Kumano Gongen gods together. There is also a magnificent ancient tomb with a stone chamber called Hiatsuka Tomb in the precincts. There is a very magnificent sacred horse. There is Hiatsuka Tomb. Both the mound and the stone chamber are perfectly preserved. It seems you can see inside. It gives you a sense of ancient romance. The main hall is in sight. It is a much more magnificent shrine than I imagined. Let’s pray. There is a shrine over there too. This is Nishinomiya Shirahama Emiju Shrine. Let’s go to Shirarahama again. You can go to Shirarahama Beach from the shrine. You can see the size of Shirarahama Beach from here. Tomorrow I’m going to the Shirahama Underwater Observation Tower. Next I’m going to the museum to appreciate art. Before that I want to stop by a store. I got hooked on fish paste on my last trip to Kagoshima. I’m going to buy some kamaboko. Uomasa Shoten Main Store. Uomasa has been in business since 1931. It’s a kamaboko store where the fish paste is handmade by craftsmen in Wakayama Prefecture. They are famous for their Nanbayaki and burdock rolls. Next I’ll have Nanbayaki and burdock rolls. Shirahama Makuzushi 500 yen. I ate it at the hotel and it was very soft and delicious. The bus I’m taking now is heading towards Engetsu Island. I think I’ll be able to see Engetsu Island from the window. Engetsu Island! There aren’t many buses going in this direction. If I get off, it’ll be a long wait until the next bus. It’s like a miracle of nature. I wonder why there’s a hole in the middle. The coast around here was also beautiful with its emerald green color. I got off in front of the hotel where I was staying today. I’m heading to Hotel Kawakyu. Inside Hotel Kawakyu, there is the Kawakyu Museum. It is open to non-guests as well. It’s a really amazing hotel (^^). A castle!? It reminds me of an old European castle. Hotel Kawakyu’s predecessor was the luxury resort hotel Kawakyu Resort Club, which opened in 1991. The concept was “a hotel like the world’s best art museum.” The construction cost about 40 billion yen. A few years after opening, the company’s business deteriorated due to the collapse of the bubble economy. It reached its limits as a members-only resort club and went bankrupt. The management rights have now been transferred and it has been converted into a luxury resort hotel for the general public. I wanted to stay there, but I couldn’t do it alone… Wow. This is amazing. A palace? The admission fee to the Kawakyu Museum is 1,000 yen. This person has been working at Kawakyu since it was first established and was very passionate about Kawakyu. I was also given permission to take photos in the museum. I love architecture and art, so I was really looking forward to it. The scale of it all is simply overwhelming. The floor is decorated with Roman mosaic tiles handcrafted by Italian artisans. Each mosaic tile, approximately 1cm square, is carefully embedded one by one. And the piano! It’s a custom-made Steinway grand piano. Steinway is the world-famous piano manufacturer “Steinway & Sons”. This piano has a beautiful design with inlaid work. The ceiling is sparkling! The ceiling has a gold leaf surface area of 1056.97㎡. It was recognized by the Guinness World Records™ in 2020 as the “largest continuous gold leaf ceiling”. The ceiling was created by French gold leaf craftsman Fabrice Goar. Goar is a master craftsman who also worked on the restoration of the Palace of Versailles in Paris. The entrance hall is lined with 24 columns. They are finished with the “Stockmarmo (plaster imitation stone) technique”. They achieve a beautiful blue color that cannot be achieved with marble. Each column costs 100 million yen. Let’s go outside for a moment. There is a chandelier. A revolving door. Let’s go to the sea and take a look. From here, it has a more European castle atmosphere. The age of the exterior walls makes it look even more like an old castle. The garden also looks like a beautiful European garden (^^). If you look closely, it looks like a castle’s stone wall. When you press the button, it moves like an automatic door. Let’s start by looking at the works on the first floor. Chinese antiques and other items were placed on the first floor. Bricks made by the British company IBSTOCK are on display. They are used on the exterior walls of the hotel. These bricks are an iconic architectural element. Lapis lazuli tiles are also on display. They are used on the roof. They are the same lapis lazuli tiles from Lao Zhong Huang as those in the Forbidden City in China. What is this? Lacquerware that was used in the past and photos from that time are on display. Now let’s go to the second floor. The spiral staircase is a fusion of architecture and art. It is a spiral staircase that seems to be floating in the air. The atmosphere on the second floor is different. The walls are made of ceramic panels. Various works are on display. The ceramic panels are ceramic tile walls made by ceramist Motoo Kato. I felt the warmth of the use of colors. There is Dali! Dali is the most versatile painter of the 20th century born in Spain. There are also many paintings purchased from all over the world in the owner’s collection on display. There seems to be a collection corner for guests only. Overall, there are many works by Dali. I wonder what the next exhibition will be. When I visited, the works of artist Shinjiro Watanabe were also on display. This Western-style banquet hall is characterized by the ceiling painting by Italian painter Giorgio Celiberti. The ceiling painting has the theme of “love, freedom and peace”. It contains messages such as “love is eternal” and “love transcends time”. When you surrender yourself to the music and fantastic space, you will feel refreshed in both body and mind. Part of the hotel is an exhibition venue. It has a fresh feel. This is the “Dolomiti Room”. It is a special space designed by German lighting designer Ingo Maurer. It is bright! It is a room that will refresh your mind. Ingo Maurer is a master of lighting design who is known as the “poet of light”. It is artistic, beautiful, and minimal. It’s hard to tell. The floor is made of leather, and is designed to feel soft and sticky when you walk on it. The work on display is the “Mother and Child” series by British sculptor Henry Moore. It features an organic form (rounded shape). Being in this room makes me feel more calm. What is the next piece? It is a work by artist Watanabe Shinjiro. It seems pitch black. A penlight? . Are you going to look at the piece with a penlight? A haunted house? . The atmosphere seems tense. The title of the piece is “Night Light”. The blue light illuminated by the light stands out. The sense of fear gradually increases . The idea of exhibiting art in pitch black is amazing. Contemporary art is amazing . I’m getting more interested in contemporary art now (^^). Is this a device to stir up fear? This place. Is it a place that was used as a banquet hall? Unlike the previous ones, this place is completely “Japanese”. The chandelier is from when “Kawakyu” was an inn. It’s a chandelier I’ve never seen before. I can also feel the element of a lantern. It seems that this area is Arita ware that has been there since the inn days. The slope of Uguisagoe. The painting has a gorgeousness that is typical of Japan. This is a pair of six-panel folding screens. Is it a cherry blossom viewing? It’s a great museum with a lot to see. I can’t help but feel excited (^^). My favorite Chagall was also on display. Bernard Buffet’s works were on display here. Buffet is a representative painter of 20th century France. He is a representative painter of figurative painting after World War II. Many of his works symbolize the anxiety and loneliness of postwar France. Let’s go to see Shinjiro Watanabe’s work over there. The ceiling is unusual. It’s an openwork ceiling . It’s an openwork sculpture like the ceiling of a mosque. It’s made with great attention to detail. I wonder what kind of trick will be next (^^). It might be here. That’s it! A bird. A Daurian redstart knocking on a window. It’s an attempt to convert the sound into music. It’s said that Daurian redstarts recognize their own reflection in the window as “others” and attack to protect their territory. The idea of turning this into music is artistic (^^). But what kind of room was this used for? It’s a mysterious space. Next is Shinjiro Watanabe’s last work. It’s a place that makes you feel like you’re playing a Resident Evil game. What is that?! The name of the work is “Yusai”. This is a place like a large bath or a spa. Another mysterious place. And there is a creepy sound ringing out all the time. The sound is recorded by a microphone that only picks up vibrations from inside the plant. Apparently, the music is created based on the sound of leaves swaying in the wind and branches bending. The approach was so original that I was constantly surprised. I hadn’t been that interested in contemporary art until now. But after seeing Watanabe’s work, I realized how amazing contemporary art is. Finally, we go to the first floor, which we haven’t seen yet. It feels like a spiral staircase is hanging from the air. This is the elevator. It weighs one ton! You can use it up to the second floor. The amazing thing about this elevator is the walls. The hotel is made of blue bafia stone from Brazil. If they used that much stone, it would weigh a ton. And the elevator floor was made by Gilles Gaubert of France. It’s parquet. I’ve never seen such a luxurious elevator before (^^). The walls were embedded with “Byzantine mosaics.” Byzantine mosaics are a decorative technique that is at the core of an art style that developed in the Eastern Roman Empire (Byzantine Empire). This is a valuable Byzantine mosaic painting that is said to have been created in Syria in the 2nd century. The fresh flowers are also luxurious and elegant (^^). This is the hotel that best describes it. They were made by artists with top-notch skills in each industry. The owner himself commissioned it. It was truly a “dream castle” where ideals from all over the world, including Europe, Islam, China, and Japan, were gathered . I hope it will be registered as a World Heritage Site someday (^^). There are still many places I haven’t seen yet. Next time I’ll stay with my wife. It’s about time to head for lunch. The lunch spot is “Toretore Market”. It takes about 17 minutes by bus to get to Toretore Market. We arrived in front of Toretore Market. It’s huge! Toretore Market is one of the largest seafood markets in Western Japan. There is a BBQ facility and a food court. It’s so spacious. The total area is about 59,000 square meters. Tuna. Dissection stage. At the tuna dissection show. The cut tuna head is sold at a great price to the first person to arrive. You can also purchase it here. There is a large aquarium in the market. You can buy the fish in the aquarium on the spot. Some people actually bought crabs. I wonder if they’re going to eat them at a BBQ. They’re so fresh, it looks like it would be delicious at a BBQ (^^). There was also a great value assortment. There were also a variety of fish from places other than Wakayama Prefecture. This area looks like it could be used as a souvenir. This is the direct-produced hometown village. Local producers bring their products and sell them themselves. From here is Toretore Yokocho. At Toretore Yokocho, they sell rice bowls made with fresh seafood, noodles, sashimi, side dishes, sushi, grilled seafood, and more . Seafood chirashi! It’s closed. The seafood grill corner is only open on weekends and holidays. And the sushi corner. There was a corner like a conveyor belt sushi restaurant. The seafood chirashi we saw earlier was also on sale. And there was a sashimi corner such as sashimi, and a side dish corner. And a rice bowl corner! In addition to rice bowls, they also had udon and Wakayama ramen. The seafood bowl was 1,800 yen. It’s about the same price as the one at Fisherman’s Wharf where I went yesterday. I had a seafood bowl yesterday, so I had a tempura bowl. The top tempura bowl was 1,800 yen. It was top-grade, so it was quite filling (^^). It had two large shrimp, two conger eels, fish, vegetables, etc. The conger eels were really big (^^). It wasn’t hot from being fried, but the oil was well-drained. The tempura wasn’t heavy at all. The shrimp were also quite big. They were palm-sized. And the meat was firm all the way to the bottom (^^). There were also scallops in it. The tempura bowl was delicious, with plenty of seafood (^^). There are also many souvenir shops. You won’t have any trouble finding souvenirs if you come here. Kagero is a standard souvenir from Wakayama. You can see Kagero everywhere. Now I’m going to a cafe where you can eat Kagero. It’s a cafe in a nice location with a view of the sea. It’s about an 11-minute bus ride from here. I’m at Shirahama Pier again. I went to the hotel and collected my luggage. The next hotel I’ll be staying at is nearby. The next hotel I’ll be staying at is that hotel. Kagero Cafe Main Branch. You can eat raw kagero here. Very popular! Ocean view. You can relax while watching the calm ocean (^^). As for the menu. There was a wide variety of drinks. There are also light meals. And raw kagero. There are many types of fillings to put in. Overall, the prices are reasonable. Shiranui Shibori 600 yen Raw Kagero (plain) 120 yen Raw Kagero (custard cream) 170 yen. “Shiranui” is a dekopon fruit from Wakayama Prefecture. The name kagero comes from the fact that it is ephemeral like a mayfly. It seems to come from the texture that disappears in your mouth. When you hold it, it’s very light. Fluffy! It has a light and melting texture. The Shiranui was very sweet with a high sugar content (^^). I just didn’t know about it until now. There are many famous sweets from all over Japan (^^). It melts in your mouth (^^). It’s a peaceful scene where time seems to stand still. This is a cafe that you can’t miss when sightseeing in Shirahama. It’s about time to head to the hotel where we’ll be staying for the night. The hotel! That’s the end of today’s video. Thank you for watching up to this point. See you in the next video!
