【Yokohama Rose Week 2025】Yamashita Park, Harbor View Park, and other locations
Hello, I’m Ichiro 😊 Today, we will visit five rose gardens (all free of charge) in the exotic port town of Yokohama. The first stop is Yamashita Park. “Garden Necklace Yokohama” is a project that connects flowers and greenery like a necklace. The mascot character is the garden fairy “Garden Bear.” The English word ‘BEAR’ apparently has the additional meaning of “to bloom” or “to bear fruit.” May 13, 2025. Early in the morning, after seeing the roses at Yokohama English Garden, I drove here to Yamashita Park. After that, I walked around Yokohama and visited five free gardens. I filmed all the gardens non-stop, so I hope you feel like you’re walking with me. 😊 Except for the Yokohama English Garden, all of them are free, but I always feel like, “Is it really okay not to pay?” 😅 I am truly grateful to the city of Yokohama. 😊 I wish the “GREEN✖EXPO 2027” to be held in two years a great success. 🙏 The wide blue sky. 😃 After visiting Yokohama English Garden, the feeling of freedom is very pleasant. Many people say that the garden at Harbor View Park, which we will visit next, is better, but I like Yamashita Park, which is close to the sea, the best. Everyone is taking pictures of their dogs, aren’t they? 😊 A Pomeranian! 😃 This rose garden is said to have about 1,900 roses of 160 varieties. The rose garden aims to pass on the history of roses from the past to the future and continue to evolve, and has been named “Future Rose Garden.” This is a one-of-a-kind rose garden where you can enjoy the scenery of the port. You can also see the classic hotel and the Marine Tower. Hikawa Maru. Hikawa Maru is a cargo and passenger ship built about 100 years ago. It is now designated as an Important Cultural Property and is moored at Yamashita Park. Classic hotel and “Future Rose Garden.” A peaceful scene😊 The “Water Guardian Statue” was donated by San Diego, Yokohama’s sister city in the United States. This is a unique rose garden where you can enjoy the harbor scenery✌️ A 15-minute walk from Yamashita Park is Harbor View Park. I will film the three gardens in this park non-stop. The first garden is the “Rose and Cascade (Small Waterfall) Garden.” This garden features an attractive Western-style pavilion. The white Western-style mansion visible beyond the cascade is the former residence of the British Consul General. This is the “Rose and Cascade Garden.” Next is the “English Rose Garden.” In front of the former British Consulate General’s residence, approximately 150 varieties and 800 plants of roses, perennials, and annuals have been mixed to recreate a British-style garden. This garden is characterized by its winding paths. It may resemble the Yokohama English Garden I visited early in the morning. The “English Rose Garden” continues further. I can’t believe this is free. The yellow rose arch is beautiful again this year.😃 Next is the “Fragrant Garden.” Roses are planted in low areas, and the surrounding Chinese juniper trees trap the fragrance of the roses. The flower beds are divided into four sections around the fountain, each with a different fragrance. It’s a shame we can’t deliver the fragrance to you.😅 I’m sure that in the near future, we’ll be able to enjoy scents on TV. 🤔 These flower beds that are lower than the surrounding area are called “sunken flower beds.” This concludes our tour of the three gardens at Harbor View Park. Let’s end our walk with a view of the harbor from Harbor View Park✌️ The green garden bear’s hobbies are gardening and walking. ✌️ This flower bed has been arranged in a chic color scheme this year. Yokohama Bay Bridge. The direction of Yamashita Park where we were just now. A 20-minute walk from Harbor View Park is Yamate Italian Garden. This area used to be called Italian Hill because the Italian consulate was located here. This diplomat’s residence was relocated here about 30 years ago. Further ahead, an Italian-style garden has been recreated. An Italian-style garden is said to feature geometric patterns of waterways and flower beds. The roses along the waterways were beautiful two years ago, but last year and this year, they have yet to bloom. The Garden Bear’s hair is called a flower afro. 😊 Now, let’s go down Italian Hill and head to American Hill. Look at the climbing roses on this retaining wall. You don’t see this very often. If I were to name it, I’d call it “Climbing Rose Slope.” 🤔 A 20-minute walk from Italian Hill is American Hill Park. The park was confiscated by the US military after World War II, which is how it got its name. It is also the first three-dimensional urban park in Japan, built on top of the Motomachi-Chukagai Station building. You can see the Marine Tower in front of you. The least tiring walking route may be from Yamashita Park to the station below, then take the elevator in the building up to this point and go to Harbor View Park next door. You can see the stairs and elevator of the building. Yokohama Bay Bridge and Pierre ✌️ It’s a 30-minute walk from American Hill Park to Yokohama City Hall. I had lunch at Yokohama Chinatown on the way 😊 It’s a bit of a walk to get here, but Yokohama is full of famous sights, so you’ll never get bored walking around. ✌️ Last year, after this, I drove to Nogeyama Park and the Rose Garden on Hakkeijima, so if you’re interested, please check out last year’s video. 🙏 Last year, I visited all the rose gardens featured in Yokohama Rose Week, but today, I’ll end my tour here at Yokohama City Hall. The weather forecast is good until tomorrow, so I’m going back to the foot of Mt. Fuji early today so I can visit a different tourist spot tomorrow. Today was a beautiful day with calm weather, perfect for a walk.😊 The Yokohama Landmark Tower stands tall against the blue sky. 😊 Roses are the flower of Yokohama City. Every May, I look forward to walking around Yokohama. I am so grateful to Yokohama City. 🙏 The “GREEN✖EXPO 2027” to be held in two years should be an incredible event.🤔 It will be the first international horticultural exposition in Japan in 37 years. However, I’m worried that this channel will still be around in two years. 😅 I make these videos thanks to the viewers who watch them every time. I am motivated to improve my skills and make even better videos. My goal is to deliver the best footage of flowers at their most beautiful in good weather. I still have a lot to learn, but I hope you’ll continue to support me. 🙏 Thank you for watching the video all the way through. See you in the next video! 😊
