2025 Tokyo E-Prix Returns: High-Speed Formula Racing Meets Sustainability

Tokyo is set to host the second 2025 Tokyo E-Prix, which is part of the FIA Formula E World Championship, an all-electric single-seater racing series. This double-header event focuses on sustainability, reducing carbon footprints, clean energy initiatives, and high-speed racing.

Additionally, the city will feature Formula E’s thought leadership platform, ‘Change. Accelerated. Live’, at Tokyo’s VIP EMOTION CLUB. This event will include speakers and attendees from various industries, such as motorsports, education, sustainability, and politics. The races will take place at the Big Sight convention centre in Ariake, located on the Tokyo Bay waterfront.

The Round 8 race will take place on May 17, 2025, followed by Round 9 on May 18, 2025.
Both races will be held at the Tokyo Street Circuit and will feature two winners due to the double-header format.
During this event, competitors will drive electric Gen3 Evo cars.
The E-Prix in Tokyo will utilise a renewable energy mix, emphasising the use of sustainable HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) fuel.
These eco-friendly initiatives aim to promote clean energy in motorsports and reduce the event’s carbon footprint.
Oliver Rowland, a Nissan driver and the current leader of the 2025 Formula E Driver Standings, has arrived in Tokyo for the races.

Race schedule 

May 16: Free practice session of 55 minutes at 4 pm.
May 17: Free practice session of 55 minutes at 8 am, followed by the Round 8 Qualifying session at 10:20 am. The main Round 8 race will take place at 3:05 pm.
May 18: Free practice session of 55 minutes at 8 am, followed by the Round 9 Qualifying session at 10:20 am. The main Round 8 race will take place at 3:05 pm.

As part of the sustainability efforts for the 2025 Tokyo E-Prix, approximately 2,000 community groups and local residents will have the opportunity to get a behind-the-scenes look at Formula E through a program called Inspiration Hour. This community tour allows participants to visit the fan village, watch free practice sessions on May 16, and walk through the Pit Lane. Additionally, the program will offer an exclusive track walk experience.
