Travel Day, Osaka To Kyoto | Enjoying Kura Sushi
Good morning. I am up and early. Well, I guess it’s kind of early. I guess I’m ready. It’s 9:00 a.m. I’m heading for the Well, reception gave me this shuttle bus schedule. So, the next one would be 9:30 or 9:50. So, I’m aiming for 9:30. Hopefully, I don’t get too much of the morning rush cuz that would suck. My bag is all good and ready to go. Haven’t had to open the expander yet, which is good. I probably could have fit my jacket in here, but I might need it when I get to Kyoto. So, I have just put uh Psyduck and my jacket in here, the Gigo bag I got the other night. I’ve got to carry that along with my backpack, but that’s fine. I’m looking a little dark under there, but I always am. Uh yeah, but let’s head to Kyoto. This is me. Looks worse than it is. It is my jacket and Psyduck. Just waiting for this shuttle. Made the 925. So yeah, not too sure what peak traffic at the uh station is going to be like, but we are about to find out. [Music] have arrived in Kyoto. Yeah. Got tickets for our journey back to Wasaka. I was going to get the Shinkansen. The guy recommended not to. He said it’s a bit of a pain cuz you have to go past Shinosaka. Um, so he said get the Thunderbolt and then I didn’t double check the ticket and he put the wrong date. So I had to line up again. It was like about a 20 minute 15 20 minute wait each time. And yeah, basically redo the tickets. It was an extra 880 yen because the date that he was meant to put is a busy time of year. So that’s okay. It was still cheap. It was like maybe $45 all up for the two of us. So, I’m just walking to go get myself a coffee and maybe something to eat. It is now4 to 12. And this is the area. Also, um fun thing happened at a station. Um there were no elevators um in the section I needed to be in. So, I had to hike my luggage up two flights of stairs, common in Japan. Um, but on the second set of stairs, a nice gentleman and a lady, they didn’t know each other, helped me. It was so nice. I wish I had the little gifts I brought with me on hand to give them. Um, that would have been the perfect time to do that. But deja vu. Um, so yeah, I’m just going to have a little explore. It’s a little bit annoying with my backpack cuz it’s quite heavy with all my cameras and all that stuff. I’m just going to find somewhere to plunk myself and chill out for 3 hours. until I can check in. It’s really standard in Japan. You’d be pretty lucky to find anywhere that will offer early check-in. It’s happened to us once in the Shinjuku area. And uh the only other place you’re likely to have that happen is Narita. Um but you have to pay. What am I going to do? Yeah, coffee. Coffee and something to eat, I think. Oh, and I’ll fill you in later. Fun fact about the Osaka Museum. I made a mistake there. I’ll tell you about it later. Okay. Bang. Seem to be in a really good area actually. Ah, I see a show turning guy. I’m going to head that way. Might even be Nashiki Market. Oh, it is. It’s not the actual market, but it’s um Sanjjo Street. I’m going to go find Italy’s or something. Check that out. I’m going to run. I got to line. I got to run. What else we got? Pizza Salvator. Got a hub. British pub. Are these guys lining up for? I’m too old for lines. Unless it’s mandatory, like getting a ticket or something for the Shinkansen. I don’t do lines anymore. H I don’t know what it is. You Oh, it’s the crafting your own ring thing. Jeez, that’s become popular. Yes. Bickory donkey. Jeez, I might have to have bickery donkey for dinner. Oh, that’s good to know. That’s like right near the hotel. How good’s that? All right, I’m going to go check out this show. What’s this artwork? Oh, cute cat. As always, I have the camera up too high, but I am getting used to uh the joystick, so that’s good. First stop, coffee. Let’s hope I can find my way back to the hotel. Nah, it’s pretty straightforward. Such a brilliant location. Very happy. Oh dear, my pants are falling down. I need to tighten them. Traditional fan shop. I am not getting distracted by the goods. I have plenty of time for that. Oh, cake. Kiki. All right, I’ll check back in when I find Italy’s. You know what? I could go today. A ramen. Haven’t had a ramen yet. I really could go a ramen. You want knowiggo? I spo. There was a detour. I don’t really feel like detour. I feel like Tall’s or Starbucks. Oh, I think I see an Excelsia cafe. Oh, wait. There’s a Starbucks right there. I think that’ll do. I think I need to have a sit down and have a coffee. Maybe have some Starbucks and then go check out the Gigo. Oh my god, I just stumbled across Kura Sushi. But guess what I’m having for lunch? Hello, boy. Yeah. Heck yeah. Love me some kur sushi. Boom. Okay. Starbucks, maybe go and then kurushi. Oo. Two owner. See, this is why I didn’t bring many socks with me because their sock stores are just next level. Okay, I’m going to go get a coffee. [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] You’re going to keep it. [Music] They love a good mascot. I’m going to go get some lunch sushi. Actually, I’m going to try things. Hi. Hi, Saw. Oh, yummy, yummy, yummy. [Music] [Music] Australia. Smooth wings inside chestnut taste special inside sweet potato. Oh, sweet potato. Oh, hi. Okay, so I just brought a beanie cuz my one’s getting really loose. And I got this ticket. So, apparently it’s for over here. You give them the ticket and you go in the barrel and I guess you can win stuff. I don’t know. But I’m going to try it. So, bear with me. I’m going to leave this camera rolling. Hi. Okay, I am in line with our little mascot friend. [Music] I have no idea what I can win, but I’m all about free prizes. I’m just going to fix my mic before it falls [Music] off. Didn’t love the Gigo, by the way. It was really just two floors. The third floor is Purikura, so like the photos. Um, there wasn’t too many machines. There was a huge line for one machine. I’m guessing it just got released. It’s like some anime kind of merch or something. So, everyone was lining up for that. They didn’t even have any food ones in there. So, yeah. But I’m sure there’s other game centers around, so it’s a good thing I’m not spending my money. So, I’m going to do this and then I’m going to go to Kurushi. Small. Okay. Hi guys. [Music] [Music] What happened? Yes. Peach. Thank you. Free gifts. Got there in the end. Little tricky with the limited Japanese, but I am not jo. That was fun though. So, I gather if you buy something from the shops in the area, you get to do this thing. So, you do the little one or the big one. I chose the little one. So, she was asking me, “Do I want to do the little one or the big one?” I chose the little one. So, some guy won the chance to like scoop up some money. That was cool. All right. Take them home. Uh, yeah. I’m going to go get some kurushi. Let’s go. [Music] This is [Music] me 39. [Music] Would you like to play? Would you like to? Sure. You want regular glass? I want a [Music] drink. Nope. That’s desserts. Um, might get a Coke. Actually, the Ichim Matcha was good. I remember I had that last time. I’ll have that. So, you can order them here or obviously take from here. Do like me some Anari [Music] sushi. Those ones are dirty. Lucky. Got looks like ginger. What? Sorry. What’s that? Is that wasabi? Oh, we got green tea. So, you can self serve green tea. Cups are up there. Hot water’s [Music] [Music] there. Happy day. Happy day. Also, when you’re done with your plate, put it in here. And then when you put so many plates in there, a game will start. And you either win or you lose, and you can win. Uh, gasha. Oo, what’s this? Panzoo. I like panoo. My drink came uh came from up here. Um, and then you just tap the screen to let know you’ve got it. I’m thinking of ordering something off the actual menu. I’m trying to find my tuna gunk and mackie. Oh, wait. There it is. There it is. My tuna gunkan. Happy days. Seed salmon cheese. That looks good. Seed pork cheese. That’s the one. That one’s the bomb. Seed pork cheese. I’m definitely ordering that. order. So, we got the hamburg steak. I’m getting that. Um, oh yeah, match is where it’s at. Your order will arrive shortly. Your order will arrive shortly. hamburger and that’s pork and cheese and I’ve ordered beef with tasty sauce too. [Music] I just ordered another seed pork with cheese where it’s at. Let’s see if I’m due for a game. Oh, we got a game. All right. Ooh, come on. Oh, I lost. Bummer. You can always tell when you’ve lost. It was fun while it lasted. Just flicking through what else they’ve got. Ooh, amazing pudding. It would want to be amazing. They’re claiming it to be amazing. Oh, they’ve got Amaz. I think I’m going to have Premiier hot cafe latte order. Here comes happy day again. Baiting this uh dum dum noodle with sesame. It looks really good. Or there’s miso butterc corn ramen. But I’m going to saporro. So I should probably just have that there. I’m debating this one though. I’ll see how I feel after my latte. I decided not to get the tantam noodle. I might try them next time because I found where is it? My corn mayo gunk and maki. So I might I’ve ordered that. Um and I might do another tuna salad one. Oh will arrive shortly. Order will arrive shortly as well. You can take it off. You can see better. Okay, I’m going to have to lift that one off. So, uncip that guy. [Applause] [Music] I think when them little trains come past there’s like random winners mayo. [Music] Good thing is they’re like compared to the Australian sushi train, the portion sizes are really small, so you can eat [Music] more. I’m determined to get one more game in. I think I need one more plate. Might get another tuna salad. We need one more plate. You know what? I’m going to do another pork with cheese. That’s my favorite. Used to be tuna salad. Got another hour and 15 to kill before I can check in. I think I’ve timed it well. I’m so full. And I just ordered pudding. The amazing pudding. I think I ordered another seared pork with cheese so I could do the game. Now I’m kind of regretting that. Your order will arrive shortly. Maybe I didn’t order another pork. I’m not mad about it. Oh, does look pretty amazing. Uh oh, I did order another one. But we get to play the game. So, I’m going to eat that, eat my pudding, and then we’ll play the game. Before I eat my pudding, let’s have another go at the [Music] game. Come on. Come on. [Music] Oh, I think I won. I think I won. I won. Oh, yeah. Finally. Let’s open this up. We win. Got tape on it. I’m so bad at opening these. Oh my god. There’s got to be a special knack or something. I am useless. Does it unscrew? No. Come on, man. Come. This is going to be one of them ones. I’m going to literally think I have to wait till John gets here in 5 days time. That ain’t opening. Like usually if you push like that’s John messaging me now. Usually if you push one end that Oh my goodness. Well, that’s for another day cuz I can’t open [Music] it. It’s pretty amazing. It’s amazing pudding. And it’s actually pretty amazing. I like it. Honestly, this pudding shits over the pudding I had last night that I brought from the conveni. Cheaper, too. The uji matcha is my favorite. The iced u matcha. So refreshing. Um I am going to hit check out, go pay, and head to the hotel because it is 2:00 and I can check in at 3:00. So I’m going to go do that. So, about 25 bucks. It’s not bad. I ate a fair bit. And I had a hot drink and a cold drink, a dessert. So, yeah. I’m going to go pay now. Super easy to pay, too. No one’s here now, so I’ll quickly show you. Um, all in English. Yeah. Card or cash. So, just scan your barcode there and then just follow all the prompts. [Music] stumbled across that only because my favorite Japanese singer was in the window and I just went and got both her records. Um, yeah, from if you know the show First Love. So, I got her newer, well, not her latest one. Oh, it might be her latest one, but um and the old one, her original release. So, yeah, John’s going to love that. He really wanted to get some records. So, two records are quite heavy, so that’s not a good thing, but I might just carry them in the airport in this bag. Nice little find. Better to get it now just in case I don’t see it again in Tokyo. Okay, so I found the par shop. It is right near the hotel. So either tomorrow or tonight, I am going to come back here cuz wow. If you haven’t tried Japanese path, you have not lived. I mean, look at those. Oh, the hardest part is making a choice. And the thing I love about Japanese parfets is they add like corn flakes and stuff. It’s so good. All right, definitely coming here either by myself or with John. I’ll probably come by myself and again with John. All right, I am 433. I seem to be on the fourth floor. So, when you come in, you have to hit the master button instead of putting the room key in. I haven’t actually properly looked at the room yet. Uh, so we’ve got fairly decent walkway here. No gener so you can wear your shoes. Luggage rack, some hangers. So, air control here. I might whack that on for a bit. They actually brought my luggage up for me, which was really nice. So, I gave them the luggage tag and they um said it was already up here, which is cute. We got a floor length mirror there. This is my bed. H I like this. This is nice. Got a cozy looking couch. It is such a luxury to have a table and a chair in Japanese hotel rooms. I’m so used to business hotels. Oh my gosh. And I actually have a view. I never have a view. Although, if I was on the other side of the hotel that’s overlooking the I think it’s the Kamo River. The other side overlooks that river. Um so yeah, we’ve got cups and ooh that’s actually what I didn’t do at the last hotel. Normally I um pinch the drip coffee and stuff, but So we’ve got green tea, drip coffee. I’ll be taking those. Thank you. That way. Uh no waters. Last hotel gave me two waters every day. And for the price of this bad boy, I kind of would have thought they would do that, but anyway. Pajamas if you want to use them. There’s some wooden sandals there. I think they’re for the um that’d be for the onen or the spa or the sento. And yeah, room slippers, hanging space, decent size TV. Didn’t know if I showed that. Yeah. So, our view. No, wrong one. Where can we open this from here? All right. Wow. I mean, that’s not a bad view, is it? I think that’s pretty good. Got the mountains over there. River would be nice, but not complaining. Oh, we’ve got water there. I don’t know what that is. But yeah, nice nonetheless. Let us go check out the bathroom. All right. Where are the switches for everything? I need to figure that out. Uh, so, oh, here. Okay. All right. So, don’t mind me. Um, that’s literally as you walk in, you can close that for privacy, so it kind of encloses that space. I’m on my own, so I don’t really need to worry. Um, I’ll probably close that one, though. Uh, yeah. So, that’s like the sink area. Got our towels. Uh oh, they’ve given us some algae salt. Bath salt. And got a drawer. Hair dryer. Nice. Um I actually am happy to have a bath this time. It’s I usually have shower baths in the hotel rooms and last time the last hotel we’re at didn’t have the bath, which I really liked that shower, but I’m kind of happy to have both here. See, it’s got a a bath and a rain shower. So, I might actually utilize the bath salts. I won cuz Japanese bath salts are next level. Where’s the toilet? Oh, okay. I was starting to freak out. That’s like the one thing I actually care about. All right. So, it’s actually right as you enter in its own little room. Oh, cool. It’s got his own little wash basin right next to it, too. And we still have our wash lights. Standard. Very nice. Very nice. Pretty happy. Happy days. Oh, yeah. Downstairs, I’ll show you later. Um, there’s like more amenities. You can help yourself. It’s self served. So, that’s like a hair band. So, that’ll be handy for taking makeup off. Toothbrush, hairbrush, cotton set. uh cleansing gel, facial cleanser, lotion, milk. So, they’re all the things that I grab. They did have shavers and stuff, too. But yeah, I’m going to settle in and I will check back in with you guys later. It is now 5 to 3. They let me in earlier, so I went at about 20 to 3. And yeah, normally they’re a bit sticklers for no, no, 3:00, and they’ll literally make you sit there until it’s 3:00. But yeah, I don’t know. They’re all right. So, here we are. Right, I’ll check you back in later. I’m an idiot. There is water. It just wasn’t in the fridge. Completely walked past it. So, I was going to say it seemed odd for this hotel not to give you water after they give you everything else. So yeah, that’s good. I am super dehydrated, so I’m going to whack them in the fridge. Okay, so I’m finally sat down. I know I look a mess. I say that in all my videos. Um, but it is true. Uh so anyway about this morning so as the bus the shuttle bus was taking me from my hotel to Osaka station we went past cuz it’s right near the hotel the museum and the big one next to the Nanoshima one I’m butchering that again um that I thought was the science works museum I’m fairly certain it was actually the national museum museum and I think that’s the one I intended to go to. Um, sure, good night. It is what it is. Um, so I’m not sure where the science work museum, science works museum was, but um, yeah. So, I could have gone to the museum all along, but yesterday was a good day. I I was pretty happy with um, just chilling out yesterday, but yeah, it’s a shame cuz I could have I could have gone to the museum in the end after all. So, there were two art museums right next to each other and I just misunderstood. There wasn’t very good signage for the National Museum, even though it’s a bigger building. It’s huge. Um, but yeah, that’ll teach me for not actually going up and having a proper look. I just looked and assumed. So, never assume. Um, so I’m just going to chill out here in the room for a bit, freshen up, um, sort out all my bits cuz I might actually, while I’m here in Kyoto, um, ship a box back just to lighten the load before we head to Saporro. So, um, cuz I want to try and do a bit of my shopping here cuz I know John hates it when I go into all the stores. So, be better for me to do it here than in Tokyo. So, cuz they’ve got like Disney Store and Kitty Land and all that here. So, I think I might do that. I might swing past one of the post offices and just ask before I dive in with the shopping. Uh, I’ll just ask about the shipping. I’m pretty sure I saw online you can get a pretty decent sized box and it’s about 60 bucks to ship back, but we’ll see. So, I’m going to sus that situation out and then cuz tomorrow, actually, I’m going to have to sus that situation out probably first thing tomorrow cuz tomorrow is the shopping day. So, but anyway, um I’m just kind of playing it by ear. I’ve got a rough itinerary, but I am sort of also just winging things a little, you know, if I want to change things up. No big deal. Um, so I ate lunch pretty late today, so I don’t know if I’m going to feel like dinner. We’ll see how we go. Maybe I’ll just go to the Comini and get a snack. If anything, I’m just really thirsty. So, um, there is Bickory Donkey just down the road, which is good to know. Um, but I might save that for when John gets here cuz I know he’ll love it and I know he’s really keen to try it. So, yeah. But, this is a really great location. Awesome location. So, this is the Caria Nishetsu Hotel. It’s on the river. I’m not on the river side in my room, but yeah, thumbs up. Highly recommend. Yeah, that’s where we’re at. So, I’m just going to chill and I’ll check in with you guys later. So, there are baths. Ladies is here. I won’t go in, but there’s amenities and stuff in there. Got ice cream machine, vending machines. That’s the men’s ones there. Um, yeah, vending machines. But yeah, this whole bit here is for the women. Oh man. So, there’s only two machines. This one’s got an hour and 4 minutes left. That’s got 48 minutes. So, that’s not happening anytime soon. But, let me just sus it out. So, same as the last hotel. So, just for a wash. 400 yen. Okay. Well, I’ll just have to come back like super late at night and hope that someone doesn’t leave their in there overnight. That sucks. All right, it is what it is. There’s your bit. Okay, I’ve got to remember it’s behind that door. All right, back to the room it is. I might head out, go to the comini. I’m not hungry. Kur sushi was enough. So, I might just go to the conveni and I don’t know, get something drink maybe a beeroo. But yeah, let’s head back to the room. So, you have to scan your room key each time. Going up. Scanny, scanny. Doors are closing. I decided to come back down. Machine’s got 29 minutes. I’m just going to wait it out and I’m going to get myself a nice beverage. Not sure which one yet, but yeah, that’s the plan. So, I decided I didn’t want to drink. I’m just going to wait. Um, I could go alcohol, but yeah, I’m bit dehydrated, so it’s probably not a wise choice. So, I just got to hope that one of these people come back and get their washing when they’re meant to. Um, there’s nothing worse than when people put washing on and then don’t come and get it. So, yeah, that’s the plan cuz my washing should only take 35 minutes. So, um, yeah, if I manage to get it on, then I might sit here and have a beer, but we’ll see. Yeah. So, just got to wait it out. I’ve really got to learn to attach this guy cuz I’m always leaving it on there and going. Anyway, uh got my washing on. Took the lady a while to come down and get her But anyway, please don’t be that person. Um met a really nice older fella. He offered for me to put my stuff in his empty machine, but there’s like very clearly men’s side and a women’s side, which is the first. Um, usually with the washing machine, it’s usually just in the one room, but because it’s in like the bath area, there’s like a men’s side and a women’s side, so I’m not going to disturb the the piece and go use the men’s side. Anyway, um, so got my washing on. I’m only just doing a wash. Um, I’ve learned in Japan when you do wash dry, it never dries and sometimes your stuff shrinks. So wash is just 35 minutes. I’ll bring it all back to the room and it’ll dry. It dried like really quickly at the last hotel, so it should be fine. So that should see me to 7:35, 7:40. Um, still not really hungry because I did eat at Kurushi pretty late, like 3:00, 3:30. Um, so once I’ve got my washing, I’ll probably head out to the Kambini then. Um, I will get myself some alcohol. I’ll get myself some alcohol. I don’t need alcohol clearly. Um I’ll get myself some alcoholic beverages uh for the room. Um cuz I kind of wanted to make it a thing. I’m going to try a different one every night. I probably won’t. I’ll probably just stick to my Kirani barn cuz that’s what I like. Um and some snacks maybe. Um not overly hungry, but maybe I’ll try some of the the bread stuffs. Uh the bread stuffs are always good. Uh, I actually didn’t even when that first night in Osaka and I brought all that stuff at the conveni, I didn’t even eat it all when I left. I left an oni giri in the fridge. So wasteful. Anyway, um I think I’m on giried out like all the years coming to Japan. Feel like I might be onie giried out. Never thought I’d say that, but we’ll see. I just haven’t had much of an appetite since I got to Japan. So it could just be that. Um yeah, we’ll see. So anyway, I’m going to go get my washing and I’ll head down in about 20 minutes. uh so as not to inconvenience anyone. And uh yeah, I’ll bring it back up and then we’ll head out and I will check in with you then. Oh, and the guy that I met, his name was Nick. Nick, if you should watch this, which is highly unlikely, but you never know, one day you might come across it. Hi, Nick. Thank you for the chat. It was awesome meeting you. Um I hope you and your son have a really great trip. And thank you for the advice about my foot. Um yeah, so Nick gave me some really good advice about my foot. He recommended I get surgery and fix my ligament and not to leave it. Uh so I’m going to look into that. So thank you. We have rain. I am What’s the time is 8:00. Um Oh wow. Aesthetics. Look at that. Beautiful. So 8:00. Still not really hungry. Uh I’m going to find a comini. Maybe just get a couple of bits to bring back to the room. Like you cool for the morning, some sparkling water. I’ll see how I feel. I might grab some snacks. But yeah, check back in in a minute. That place looks good up there. Cozy. And that down there does Kyoza. I just spotted a Lawson pretty close to the hotel. I’m yet to get my Lawson socks. I have Famat socks from last time, but I am yet to get Lorson ones. So, let’s do Lawson tonight. They’re iffy about you filming inside. So, I’ll show you what I got when we get back. Feel like something healthy, so I’m getting salad and my socks. Honey Gary almost gone. My yogurt. I need my yogurt. Cannot see it. All right, I’m going to show you guys what roughly 30 Australian dollars gets you. Hot latte. Don’t worry, I’m not eating all this tonight. This is kind of to last a few days. Got these cheese cheese flavor flour snack. Uh fried squid. That looked super interesting. I think that’ll make a good drinking snack. Didn’t have the sparkling water I normally get, but this one says number one. Going to try that one. Very happy I got my Lawson socks. This looked really miy mochy and chewy and delicious. It’s like a chocolate uh baked thingamajig. Something savory. Sausage bread. Again, don’t worry. I’m not eating all this tonight. Another kind of drinking snack. So, this is like pickled stuff like so it’s cucumber. I think it’s like daon. Might be kind of like a kimchi style. I’m not too sure. Cookie. I think it might be white chocolate and macadamia or just white chocolate. Not too sure. Potato snack. Salty flavor. my absolute favorite. And if you come to Japan, you have to have this. This is the Ohio milk pudding. Milk pudding, pronounced pudding in Japanese. Um, it is the best thing you will ever have and you will just forever be craving it when you leave Japan. Um, yeah, I constantly dream of this when I’m in Australia. Something for the morning, just drinkable yogurt. Something healthy because again, I mean, you wouldn’t know it from all the snacks I’m just showing you, but anyway, something healthy. So, chicken and and egg salad with onion sauce. So, that looked pretty good. We’re getting to the bottom here. Oh, I did get myself some plain black hair clips cuz the fringe is already growing too long. An R1 for the morning. Uh, didn’t have the ukulele. And if they don’t have you cooled, I actually really quite like the R1. Now for the fun stuff, Kieran Ichiban, the best beer in the world. My all-time favorite. And when you come to Japan, you got to have a whiskey highball. So, I got a Santo Highball. So, I’m going to have my hot latte and uh figure out what I’m having tonight and then put the rest in the fridge or whatever. I’ve got some beer snacks there. I’m just going to chill out, watch some Japanese TV. They’re playing Game Center, so it’s right up my alley. And uh yeah, I’m going to leave that here. I’m not going to show you my face because I’ve got hat hair from wearing my beanie. So, I will see you guys tomorrow. Night. [Applause]
It’s a travel day. Come with me as I travel from Osaka to Kyoto, eat Kura sushi, buy some records and explore where I’ll be staying for the next week.
