Japan’s Overnight Ferry | Osaka to Beppu 12 Hour Trip

Overnight ferry—staying in the cheapest
private bed. Finally, the day I’ve been
waiting for! I’m taking a ferry
from Osaka to Beppu. I was too excited and showed up
6 hours early. LOL Obviously, the waiting room
isn’t open yet… Heading to DAISO to grab
something for dinner! Looking for snacks before dinner—
life in my 40s. Haha Maybe they stock this much
for ferry passengers? Luxury ferry…
and I’m eating cup noodles. LOL That’s the ferry I’m taking:
Sunflower Kurenai. It’s a new ship,
built in 2023. 199.9 meters long!
Massive—and beautiful. It’ll take about 12 hours
to reach Beppu in Oita. I’m a bit worried…
the sky looks iffy. Dear weather gods…
please, just for today! Ugh, you’re useless,
weather god! Guess I’ll wait
here in the lounge. Honestly, rain
just kills the vibe. Hope the sea
doesn’t get too rough… Just when I was feeling down…
a miracle happened! The sun came out—
yes!! Sorry, God.
I didn’t mean to be so harsh earlier. Boarding starts—
30 minutes to departure! Getting excited
all over again. Alright,
time to board! Whoa!
This place is stunning! This is what luxury
really looks like! Feels like Cinderella might walk down
this staircase any second. First,
let’s head to my room. I booked the cheapest room,
called “Tourist.” Oh,
here it is! I’ll unlock it with the QR code
I got when booking. Tech stuff is tough
when you’re analog like me. Epic music playing
while I struggle with the door… Stay calm…
and boom! It opened. Staying calm
really is the key in life. This door just taught me
something deep. LOL And here’s
my bed for the night. I chose the lower bunk. It feels like a secret base
for grownups. Love it! Amenities: towel,
toothbrush, and wired earphones. I like this in-ear type! These always fall out of my ears—
I hate them! Power outlet
and USB port Air conditioner too. You can watch
TV and movies here. Oh!
I can see outside from here! Plenty of space
if you’re around 175 cm tall. Close the curtain,
and it’s your own private world. Here’s what it looks like
from the outside. The size fits me perfectly.
Feels so good! Finally, a shelf that understands me. It’s time to sail!
Let’s go out on the deck. Of course, no family or girlfriend
came to see me off. LOL Oh! The staff is waving at us! Bye! Take care!
No idea who you are though! I was feeling sentimental,
but the woman next to me had crazy energy. Goodbye Osaka…
until we meet again. Decks 6–8 are for guests,
Decks 2–5 are for trucks and cars. You can bring food and alcohol onto the ferry too. What’s this? You can use the ice machine, hot water,
and microwave here. Perfect place to recover from travel fatigue. Lots of soft drinks to choose from. Beer and cup noodles taste 500 times
better at sea than on land! Refundable lockers—love that! There’s even a photo spot
where you can pose like the captain! A kids’ space with a weird creature
named “Rody.” Is it a horse? A donkey?
Or something else…? Can you believe this ferry
even has a dog park?! So cool that you can travel with your dog. They even have poop bins! Lots of comfy sofas around too—nice touch. Now let’s check out the floor
with the suites. Suites cost $125 more than my room. This is not the floor for people
who eat cup noodles for dinner. LOL But hey, walking the hallway is free! There’s even a lounge for suite guests only. It’s locked,
so poor folks like me can’t sneak in. Haha Time to freshen up in the bath! Showers are available 24 hours. Huge public bath
with a sea view. So relaxing. Though it was pitch dark outside…
I couldn’t see a thing. Then I realized—I made a huge mistake. I forgot to bring roomwear… Apparently, pajamas are only included
in the luxury rooms. Wearing jeans after a bath
is pure torture. And they’re brand new—so stiff!
This is hell. My T-shirt’s wrinkled too. LOL Now I’m checking out the souvenir shop! Lots of local goodies from Beppu and Osaka. Tons of ice cream and snacks too! Plenty of official “Sunflower” goods as well. Wait—are they punning “Curry” and “Ferry”?! LOL Oh yeah, I saw this poster earlier too. I gotta say…
I kinda like their cheesy jokes. They even have a stamp station! They totally know how to win me over. LOL Buffet dinner costs $17. Meanwhile, my dinner
cost just $2! And of course, right when I started eating,
they began projection mapping… Everyone was staring at the ceiling,
but I was focused on my curry udon. I’m starving right now.
No way I’m looking at the ceiling. Now the whole ferry
smells like curry. LOL I could feel the stares saying,
“Who’s the guy eating curry right now?” After everyone went to sleep,
I made my move… Time to start my solo party! Beer prices are actually decent
for being on a ship! Quick announcement, everyone—
I’ve got some news! Thanks to all of you,
I hit 1,000 subscribers! Cheers! In my 20s,
I could eat anything and stay skinny… But now,
I gain weight just by looking at food. LOL Gotta wake up early tomorrow.
Time to sleep—good night. Good morning! What a beautiful sunrise. The sea was calm,
so I slept like a baby. Waking up in a totally different place—
now that’s the best part. I can see Beppu coming into view. That was such a great ferry ride. I don’t want to leave,
but it’s time to disembark. I got to enjoy
a really luxurious time. Thank you,
Sunflower Kurenai. From the terminal,
I’m heading straight to Beppu Onsen. Is it just me,
or do buses in unfamiliar places feel scary? I never know how long it’ll take
to reach my stop, so I get nervous. That’s why I keep staring at the signs
the whole time. LOL I managed to get off
at the right bus stop. The name of the stop is…
“Chinoike Jigoku-mae” (Bloody Hell Pond). I’ve arrived
at “Chinoike Jigoku”—Blood Hell Pond. So fitting for hell—
a bunch of demons greeted me. Look at that deep red! Now I get why
they call it a “blood pond.” The water is 78°C (172.4°F). No wonder there are “DANGER” signs
all over the place. Whoa, cool T-shirt! Wait, “Blood Pond Pudding”? Does it taste like blood…? By the way,
I have blood type B. It was a sweet, grape-flavored pudding—
like heaven in a cup. Next stop—Tatsumaki Jigoku!
(“Tornado Hell”) This geyser erupts
every 30 to 40 minutes. Also… why am I always alone
everywhere I go? LOL Maybe… people just don’t like me? Anyway, let’s chill out
and wait for the next eruption. And then—bam! It happened. It shot up like someone
hit a switch out of nowhere! Boiling water and steam
at 105°C (221.0°F)! Without the stone cover,
it could shoot up 30 meters high! Nature’s power is seriously amazing. Next stop—A sacred place
for Demon Slayer fans! Hachiman Kamado shrine The shrine shares the name “Kamado”
with the main character of the manga! Not just the name—
the vibe here really fits the Demon Slayer world. But… I’ve got a confession.
I’ve actually never read it. So I bought the first 3 volumes
to catch up on the basics. Perfect way to kill time
while waiting for the ferry. I ended up totally hooked.
Now I wanna read more! Inside the shrine,
you’ll find lots of “oni” (demon)-themed items. They even sell charms with the same patterns
as the characters’ kimonos. Alright, time to write my wish
on an ema (wooden prayer plaque). They let me use a crazy amount of pens.
Like, wow! I made one wish—
for all of you watching this. I quietly hung my wish
with all the others. Everyone else’s drawings
looked like pros did them… But mine?
Easily the best of the bunch. LOL Beppu is known for its hot springs! So instead of the touristy spots,
I went to a local sento (bathhouse). I love this retro vibe. Unbelievable—only 100 yen ($0.69)
for a soak! And they’ve got a cute stamp
for souvenirs too! It’s super adorable! Men’s bath is on the right side. I ended up sharing the bath
with a local grandpa. He’s been coming here
for almost 70 years! He’s a true legend—
even got featured in an onsen magazine. Super friendly guy
with the warmest smile. Of course I had to copy his pose myself
and take a photo! LOL The water was 44°C (112°F)—
insanely hot but awesome. This ferry trip was amazing.
Beppu is such a fantastic town.
