Samsung Electronics Co. Chairman Jay Y. Lee will attend the Korea Day event at the Osaka Kansai Expo in Japan on Tuesday, representing South Korea’s business community alongside top government officials.
Lee is expected to play a private diplomatic role during the official event, which kicks off Korea Week from May 13 to 17.
His attendance coincides with the 60th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between Korea and Japan. Industry insiders believe he may also meet with Japanese business leaders with whom he has long-standing ties.
During the same period, Korea’s Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and KOTRA will co-host a special exhibition featuring Korean products and technologies, with major companies such as Samsung Electronics and Hyundai Motor participating. Observers say Lee may personally visit the booths.
