18 Days of Car Camping – Himeji Castle, Hiroshima Peace Park, and Peak Cherry Blossoms!

After departing Kanazawa, we crossed over towards the Pacific Ocean side of Japan and stopped at two famous locations, Himeji Castle and Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park. These are two places we didn’t think we’d see, but our timing and the route worked out just perfect. Himeji Castle was spectacular and the hours we spent there were way worth the $7.50 admission fee. Hiroshima was a place of deep reflection and remembrance. The cherry trees were in peak blossom for all of this side of Japan, lining the parks and dotting the hillsides as we drove. After 18 days out, eventually we drove all the way south and arrived back home in Kagoshima where a few cherry trees were still blossoming.

We spent 18 days on the road traveling from Kagoshima, Kyushu up through central Honshu and back over our spring break. We drove about 3,300 km (2,000 miles). We spent every night in our simple van conversion with our Alaskan Husky, Taku. Rural Japan is where our heart is and it is amazing to see!

Kagoshima to Shibushi to Osaka to Lake Biwa to Hakuba to Nagano to Snow Monkeys to Nikko to Niigata to Noto Peninsula to Kanazawa to Himeji to Hiroshima to home!
