Maruyama Zoo Sapporo Hokkaido Japan
Hello everyone, welcome back to the channel. Today I’m at Mararyyama Zoo in Saporro. It’s a rainy day, but that won’t stop me. Let’s head inside and enjoy some time with the animals. Elephants are super smart. They can recognize themselves in mirrors. They are very social and form strong family bond and they also have an amazing memory. Elephants are incredibly protective parents. When danger is near, the herd forms a circle around the baby and keeping it safe in the center. Do you know an elephant’s trunk has over 40,000 muscles and can be used for breathing, smelling, trumpeting, drinking, and even picking up a single blade of grass. Oh, brown bear. Do you know brown bears are found across North America, Europe, and Asia? They can weigh between 300 to 1,500 lb. They eat both plants and animals, and their sense of smell is extremely keen, better than a dog. And now I am going to see the polar bear. Polar bears are found in the Arctic Circle, including parts of Canada, Alaska, Russia, Greenland, and Norway. They have sharp sense of smell. They can smell seals nearly a mile away, or even under thick snow and ice. Polar bears are the largest land carnivores. An adult male can weigh 900 to 1,600 lb. Okay, now I’m super hungry and starting to feel really cold. Let’s head inside the cafe and warm up. Orangutans are large, smart apes with long arms and reddish brown hair. They are very clever. They use sticks as tools and build nests to sleep in. They like eating fruits, vegetables, leaves, and sometimes insects. And guess what? They share 97% of their DNA with humans. Yep. They are basically hairy cousins with better tree skills. These brainy apes are tool users. They have been spotted using sticks to fish out termites or even make umbrellas from leaves. But here it is trying to take out fruits. Snow leopards live in the rugged mountain ranges of central and South Asia, including the Himalayas, at elevations of 9,800 to 17,000 ft. They can leap up to 50 ft in a single bound. Unlike tigers or lions, snow leopards can’t roar up. They make sounds like growls, hisses, and a friendly chuff. The tiger’s roar can be heard as far as 2 m away. Tigers are the largest members of the cat family. The Siberian tiger is the biggest subspecies. Tigers enjoy water and are strong swimmers. They love bathing in ponds or streams to cool off. A lion’s roar can be heard as far as 5 miles away. Lions can run fast, but only for short distances. They eat animals like zebras and sleep a lot, up to 20 hours a day. Lionuses are strong, fast, and smart. They are the main hunters in the pride. They also take care of cubs. feeding them and keeping them safe. Hyenas are wild animals that look a bit like dogs. They live in Africa and parts of Asia. The most well-known kind is the spotted hyena, famous for its laughing sound. They are strong, fast, and have super powerful jaws that can crush bones. Giraffes are the tallest animals on Earth. Adult snails can reach up to 18 feet tall. Do you know giraffe’s heart is about 2 feet long and can weigh over 25 lb and they have 20-in long tongue. Hello, King Julian. Lemurs live only on the islands of Madagascar in Africa. They love to climb trees and jump from branch to branch. The most famous is the ringtailed lemur. Kangaroos are marsupials found mainly in Australia and nearby islands. They are national symbol of Australia. Do you know kangaroos can hop up to 30 ft in a single bound? But they can’t move backward easily due to their muscular tail and body structure. Female kangaroos carry their babies called joeies in a pouch on their belly for up to 8 months after birth. Heat. Hey, heat. Hey, heat. Yeah. Heat. Leo, there’s even a baby care room at the zoo. So thoughtful and convenient. Hello, Mr. Zebra. I know you can run up to 40 mph, but your kick can seriously injure or kill a predator like a lion if it gets too close. The Maryama Zoo ticket costs 800 yen for adults and kids under 12 and free. Definitely great value for money. Thanks for joining me on this Mararyyama Zoo adventure.
