When Everything Went Wrong in Akita, Japan – Snowstorm Nightmare

I still don’t know if we can make it to Akita. I’m praying. Stay tuned because if it doesn’t work, we might have to sleep in the station. [Music] [Applause] [Music] First of all, let’s just [Music] Hey, not [Music] when May we’re going to do it. We wait. We’re not going to sleep at the station. Thank God. The next station is Akita. [Music] Wait. If you are new to the channel, welcome. I’m Vasco. And I’m Sarah. And if you like Japan and traveling in general and vlogs and cool experiences, consider subscribing. We quit our jobs and we came all the way to Japan for a full year to discover all it has to offer. So yeah, we’re on the road to reach 1k followers and without you, we can’t do it. So, you know, follow along. Back to the video. [Music] Oh, hey, come on in. Come on into my crib. Come on, let’s check it out. So spacious. Come on. So this is my amazing bathroom. So big. Amazing. This is the common area. We have so much space here. This is the working station here where we edit videos. And this is my giant king-size bed. Look at this. I don’t even know how to open it. We have the water right there. So, you know, this is expensive. On a serious note, I think we are now starting to see more normal rooms. Um, to which we were more accustomed to when we first came to Japan where all the rooms were like so small we couldn’t even open our bags. And now this is one that finally basically is exactly what we were expecting. So we have a little room to open the bags. Um but you know it’s just for sleep so should be fine. I think I I I almost I thought we were not going to make it because of the snowstorm and we got here and still snowing a lot. But we did not have any limited express um trains from Alamore to Akita this morning. They were all cancelled. So we had to come up with a solution. And we did a huge like round turn. We went to Morioa, which is actually the next step in our journey. And now we finally got to Akira. At least we did it. [Music] It’s snowing again. Oh my god. Shocker. We came to a big camera because Vashku loves a big camera and he wanted to buy some things for his camera. Uh so we came here and now we wanted to go to Mega Doniote here in Akita. Uh because it’s snowing so much like it’s a little bit impossible to sightsee today. I hope tomorrow is better cuz we still have some things we want to check out here in Akita. We already are kind of mentalized that it’ll be hard to get to the further out points of interest in the national parks and things like that without a car. Uh but you know what can you do? [Music] We’re going to check out the games upstairs and the electronic part of Doniote and have some fun. [Music] I want title. Title Sarah’s first [Music] attempt. Do it. Let’s do it. Yeah. The claw. It’s like so weak. The game is rigged. Stop spending those yens, [Music] man. Oh, that that pink one is cute, I have to admit. So I’ll try once first attempt. Easy. Easy. Too easy. Um, it was the wind. The wind. Uh, bro. Good night. We are back here next to the hotel and we’re searching for food like we are always. And I saw a place that serves meat. It’s literally called meat and burger. And Vashku was craving a little bit of meat. So, we’re going to see if we can have some food. It’s already like 9:20 and things close very early unless it’s like an isakaya. But if everything goes wrong, we have a 7-Eleven right here. So, oh god. Same. Jesus Christ. Yeah. Yeah. I was saying that if everything fails, we have the 7-Eleven here. So, hopefully we get to eat some food and not come to the Kamini again. But if we have to, we will. Yeah. So, we are trying to figure out where the restaurant is. On Google Maps, it says it’s here, but it’s not this one. Strange. Bro, this sounds a little suspicious, not going to lie. Oh, it’s there, bro. So, the restaurant is called Meat and Beer. It’s a good name. Let’s go. [Music] [Music] Hey [Music] [Music] What are we doing here? Very mindful. [Music] Good morning, guys. Good morning. Second day here in Akita. Yes. And still our plans are screwed because it’s snowing a lot. I had a thought like I did in Ali that we would be able to go further out but it is a lot of trains are it’s like 2 hours and a half from here and a lot of trains are not happening. So we had to reassess. So, we’re gonna explore the center of Akita mainly. So, it’s going to be a chill day. As we said earlier, the uh weather can change in 5 minutes, which it did cuz it was sunny and now we’re in the storm. Uh we’re going to try to go to the bakery against all odds. Let’s go. Heat. Heat. [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] Can’t really understand the weather here in Akita. Like it’s sunny now. uh just after a like 30 minutes of snowstorm and we had a breakfast/ lunch in the bakery we were talking about and now we’re going to try to go to the castle park hopefully without it changing again like in 5 minutes. So let’s see if we can do it without you know suffering through another snowstorm. [Music] I can already see a huge cloud coming toward us. So, you know, pay for us. [Music] [Music] Hey, hey, hey. [Music] [Music] We woke up today at 7:00 a.m. Uh, so yeah, super early. So, the plan was to go to the Namahagi Museum and some of the points that are a little bit further out. Uh, but unfortunately again um there was a huge snowstorm during the night, this time even bigger to the point where certain lines and trains got damaged. says on Google Maps that basically we have to be content with the fact that um we’re just going to explore the center of Akita as best as we can and hopefully it won’t snow more. On top of that, today is a national holiday. It’s the emperor’s birthday. So nice. Some museums and some attractions are closed or with restricted schedules. We’re going to try to have lunch at Udon place uh that is really close to the hotel and the station, the JR station. So hopefully that goes well as well. I’m not sure if it’s open for the holidays, but let’s hope. Fingers crossed. Fingers crossed. Let’s go. Let’s go. [Music] [Music] Damn it. Damn you. [Music] [Music] Red red red bean is so strange because it looks like chocolate but the taste is so specific. Oh, because like I’ve I’ve eaten red bean paste in Portugal and it has nothing nothing to do with the actual red bean paste that they do [Music] here. The weather is beautiful outside. No, I’m joking. It’s snowing a lot. And today we are leaving Akita. Yeah, sadly it was a shame that we couldn’t see all the points of interest here in Akita because of the snow and the snowstorm and train lines getting reduced and cancelled and everything reduced and cancelled and everything. So yeah, but hopefully uh if you watch our channel and if you follow our guides uh when you visit this place, it will not be any snowstorm or anything. So you can enjoy to the fullest. Yeah. And the next stop will be Modioa. It’s roughly 2 hours and 20 minutes away by Shinkansen. The last time we came to Akita from from Al Modi, we also passed through Morioa and it seemed like there was a little bit less snow. Yeah. So hopefully that’s the case so we could explore cuz like snow is super fun for like a bit and then it becomes like a nuisance of life literally. Yeah. Yeah. becomes a nuisance a little bit like especially if you’re trying to explore the city cuz like 5 minutes everything is fine, 5 minutes after you’re like snow in your face. So with a lot of transportation cancelled and no taxes and nothing. Yeah. So see you guys in Moroka. [Music] You feel me? [Music]

When everything went wrong in Akita, we found ourselves battling one of the worst snowstorms we’ve ever faced. What was meant to be an exciting adventure turned into a struggle for survival as the blizzards hit hard and fast. With trains canceled, roads buried under snow, and the freezing cold creeping in, we had to rely on our instincts to make it through. Stuck in Akita City, we navigated through the snow-covered streets, desperately trying to make the best of the situation. Along the way, we found warmth in Akita’s local flavors, indulging in juicy grilled meats and hearty bowls of soba, but it wasn’t easy. This was one snowy journey we’ll never forget!
