I Used Japan’s BEST Train Pass 🇯🇵 OSAKA – HIROSHIMA – FUKUOKA
What if I told you there’s a train pass
in Japan that costs just $150 and unlocks three of the country’s most iconic cities Well for
the next 9 days my girlfriend and I will use this pass to explore Osaka travel through the
historic heart of Hiroshima and head all the way south to the vibrant streets of Fukuyoka We’ll
discover hidden neighborhoods quiet villages devour unbelievable food and learn how to stretch
this ticket even further than we thought [Music] possible So is this Japan’s best
train pass Let’s find out together Once we landed in Osaka we took the airport train
into the city and searched for our hotel Welcome to Osaka our first destination We’re going to be
heading south from this point and it all kind of begins properly tomorrow Our accommodation
is actually pretty budget We’ve got a very um I ordered a double room but um me and Miss P
will squeeze in there somehow I think we’re only here for two nights and then we’re going to head
south As I mentioned tomorrow is our fun day We’re going to go out and get dinner now and then get to
sleep because it’s been a quite a long travel day And the adventure in Japan starts proper tomorrow
Are you ready for dinner Yes [Applause] Dinner on the first evening was very simple We had
some katsu curry noodles and a couple of cold beers And the next day the sun was shining
And we were so happy about this because we were back in Japan and we were really excited
for our main activity here in Osaka Okay we’re going to begin today by coming to Universal
Studios Japan here in Osaka We did come to Osaka in our previous trip last year and we
loved Osaka It’s a big city very colorful very vibrant lots of food lots of great shopping
and we explored a lot of the city last time But since we’re heading south tomorrow the only
thing we really wanted to do that we missed last time was spend the day at Universal Studios As
you can see we’ve come nice and early The park has just opened It’s 9:00 in the morning
We’ve pre-bought our tickets using Cluke From the moment we walked into these gates we knew
we were going to be in for a day to remember We had perfect weather crazy good vibes and our
first stop was straight into the action Each zone feels like you’re stepping into a different
world You’re stepping directly into the movies themselves There’s dinosaurs roaring around in
Jurassic Park There’s minions causing absolute chaos and all of your favorite classic Universal
movies are brought to life all around you And as for the brand new Super Nintendo world it was
absolute madness packed with people insane cues We could barely find a place to stand and honestly
we didn’t really last more than 10 minutes It was very colorful very cool to be walking around It
did feel like you were stepping inside the game itself We took a few selfies and then we realized
that it’s just overrun overhyped and we just don’t get it in there We just we’re going to go find
something fun to do Pro tip however we hacked the day by bringing in our own snacks our own lunches
So whenever we did find oursel in a big queue we could pull out our snacks pull out our lunch pull
out our drinks and keep our energy levels high As for the rides it was non-stop adrenaline flying
through the sky on roller coasters spinning around and just laughing our heads off on every ride we
went on And between the rides the entertainers kept up the energy They were dancing singing and
pulling off incredible shows Talking of shows the most incredible one was Waterorld Just absolutely
mind-blowing Huge explosions amazing stunts insane action total movie magic right in front of your
very eyes We were there for the whole day and every corner had something new something wild
something unforgettable It’s not just a theme park It felt like we were actually inside the
movies themselves Honestly such a great day A million memories And we’re already planning to
come back here in the future We’ve done quite a lot of rides and we’re a bit tired aren’t
[Music] we It had been a great few days here in Osaka but we had our sights on exploring
further south so it was time to get a move on Can we just take a moment to appreciate
how beautiful Japan’s subway stations are [Music] We’ve just activated our $150 Southern train
pass which unlocks us being able to go on the Shin Kenzen bullet train as well as loads of
other buses trains trams and boats and feries for the next 7 days Now we didn’t really know how to
activate it cuz we bought it on the Cluke app and we tried to use the machines here but we didn’t
quite know how to do it So we’ve just come to the travel service center here in Shinosaku station
and they printed everything out for us We’ve got our travel passes We’ve now reserved some seats
on the bullet train to Hiroshima which leaves in 20 minutes So let’s grab some lunch get on
the platform and head to Hiroshima [Music] Using the bullet train in Japan is not only
super efficient and comfortable but at only $150 per person for a week of unlimited travel
it’s also very budget friendly Right we’ve checked into our service department here in Hiroshima When
you’re looking to book accommodation in Japan the main two options are you know hotels or host or
these service apartment type things And there is pros and cons These service apartments are a
lot bigger than hotel rooms Hotel rooms seem to be very small and quite expensive And these
service apartments give you a lot more space You get like you know laundry shower a bathtub a
fridge cooking stuff you know a place to prepare your ready-made meals from 7-Eleven or something
And they’re quite spacious in comparison But with that comes the selfcheck-in and it’s so difficult
It’s kind of like an episode of the Crystal Maze You’ve got to get a code to get through the first
door and then there’s an iPad and then you have to upload photos and passports and then you get
an extra code and then it’s a whole puzzle to get through to the front door Right before we go
out and explore Hiroshima a quick mention about Cluke We’ve been using them throughout this
trip and we use them all the time and they are sponsoring this particular video Cluke is
the perfect travel companion when it comes to booking activities experiences even accommodations
eims and importantly transport Especially here in Japan you want to kind of pre-book your things so
that you can get around the stress of navigating the language barrier and you know everything’s a
little bit different here including checking in So obviously we use Cluke to book our universal
tickets but we also used it to get this southern train pass which you can then just amend to the
different part of Japan that you’re traveling to We’re traveling in the south so we searched
for a southern one And once we did a little bit more research we found that this one that
we particularly bought was the perfect one for our trip It includes unlimited trains including
the bullet trains heading south from Usaka to our end destination of Fukuyaka And it lasts 7 days
It includes some buses It includes some fairies and so if we just keep on the trains we’ll be
getting our money’s worth And like I said it’s just one ticket in our pocket that we use and we
can reserve our own seats as well That’ll help But if we just need to go last minute we can
no problem get on a train And that train today was actually half empty So if you are coming to
Japan and you want to save time money and stress then download Cluke If you use my link in the
description you can unlock some special benefits For example when we bought this southern
train pass we got a free eSIM with 3 GB of data thrown in which actually I’m going to
install now because we can use that 3 GB to navigate Hiroshima for the next few days and
you just post stuff on Instagram stuff like that And they threw that in for free which was
really nice So head to the app store download Cluke or go to their website or click the link in
the description and unlock experiences when you travel Thank you to Cluke for sponsoring this
entire week in Japan Should we get settled and unpack a bit and go explore [Music] Hiroshima
So we saw something quite funny on Google Maps near where we’re staying Now Japan’s famous for
vending machines right But have you ever seen a pizza vending machine Now it’s got two flavors
margarita and teriyaki chicken But the margarita is more expensive which is a bit strange but
that’s the one we’re going to get And apparently you just put your money in and then you wait and
this vending machine is going to cook a pizza So slight change of plan We only have enough for the
teriyaki chicken We’ve got 1,300 in change and it doesn’t accept card Okay But we only have enough
for teriyaki chicken So that’s what we’re going for And now we wait What can you hear I
can hear a man walking inside the machine Hurry up M Mario I’ll put a link in the
description of the exact location but we saw it on Google Maps and we thought
this would be funny And right next to the vending machine is a beautiful
park with blossom tree [Laughter] That doesn’t look that bad I mean look at
the crust The crust looks pretty decent It’s pretty interesting but we have to try how it
tastes like Obviously we didn’t come all the way to Japan to eat pizza But when it comes
out of a vending machine it does count as a cultural food experience So on the picture it
said that we would get a plastic pizza cutter but it didn’t have any Maybe they’ve run out
But it did come on a little metal grill and a half a pizza box which I think you can unfold
and actually close it and take it home But in Japan you’re supposed to normally eat the
food at the vending machine or nearby and then put it in the bin So I’ve got nothing to
cut it with So I’m just going to use my hands So apologies Okay that’ll do Taste test
of a vending machine pizza here in Japan It’s surprisingly really good So the the crust
which is always the the base of any good pizza is actually really nice It’s quite sweet but it’s hot
It’s crispy The dough is decent I mean look at the cook on it I’m not really a big fan of teriyaki
chicken and sweet corn and there was a bit of sweet plum sauce on the top But for a vending
machine pizza 10 out of 10 Enjoy your dinner Uh no Just a snack Okay It’s quite big but
I’m going to bite it here And then it’s not bad is it No it’s surprisingly pretty good
but like not sure about how I feel with you know chicken teriyaki and corn Yeah So that’s
just the topping but the pizza itself is cooked really good If we had 100 yen more in our wallet
we could have got the margarita When you travel it’s all about you know jumping into the local
culture and traditions And some of the best ways to do that is with the food And so here we are
Vending machine pizza Hello Mike Oh it’s okay Hiroshima had quickly become our favorite spot in
Japan Perfectly sized fun to explore on foot lots of things to see and do One of which was visiting
a local park because I had a few questions in mind for my girlfriend Okay I’m going to put
you on the spot now So I was just asking her what’s it like to travel with me Shall I start
with the cons Okay Well like personally I’m the person who quite like the structure plan which
means I like to plan ahead where we are going to be what hotel But honestly I’m when we travel
together I’m I’m learning sometime Got to go with the flow which I do But I still like to have
plan just in case like a backup plan I would say that you’re not what’s the terms called
McN McDonald’s boys You know you’re not picky on food like you can eat everything and which I
appreciate that I don’t have to go to McDonald’s every time right You know what I mean Okay Is
that a thing Is it Yeah Yeah I think it’s a pro because sometime you’re afraid to try new food but
for you you’re not afraid So I feel like you’re pretty easy to try new food and eat everything in
front of you not just McDonald’s And good partner One of the pros of traveling with Miss P by
the way is she always seems to sniff out the best places to eat in every location we seem to
visit And just 5 minutes away from our hotel was this place This restaurant is called Masato It’s
a small restaurant run by this guy This is Masato himself He’s the coolest kindest Japanese dude
you’ll ever meet And he has an insane passion for hospitality and attention to detail that all great
chefs need We didn’t plan on doing this but we ate our way through his entire menu which was very
reasonably priced by the way Every dish seemed to be made with incredible amounts of love care and
attention And we sometimes just honestly couldn’t find the words to describe his food Every dish
we simply put in our mouths left us speechless [Music] Okay Thank you Bye Bye Bye Bye Bye Thank you Bye
Bye Bye Bye Thank you Bye Bye Have a good trip Thanks a lot You too Thanks again Yeah See you
again Oh nice motorbike Yeah Thank you People always told me that you’ll have one incredible
unforgettable dining experience at least once in every trip in Japan And that was one of them
My number one favorite Good find Good find Yeah High five Everything’s so yummy from start to
finish Even the ice cream Even the ice cream was handmade I don’t think we made a video of
the ice cream but it was just vanilla ice cream But it was so good Oh my god I will not forget
this place Good job babe Good job me I found it [Music] Just taking a lovely walk this morning
in Hiroshima Absolutely love this place but it is a very small compact city Best
explored we think on a sunny day on foot So actually yesterday when we were on the bullet
train I booked us onto a free walking tour and obviously we’ll learn a lot about what makes
Hiroshima so popular and so famous for good and for worse Yeah this walking tour was awesome
The local tour guide spoke fluent English and she really set the scene for us regarding all things
Hiroshima We began by learning that this entire city was completely flattened and destroyed when
the A- bomb dropped in 1945 And so everything that you see here is newly built including
this stunning castle in the center of the city We don’t have time to go into the castle
during the free walking tour because that would obviously take half of the time Um so she’s
just told us that we can come back after the walk-in tour if we want and it’s a small fee to
go in And this is obviously now turned into a museum because obviously it did not survive the
last The tour lasted 2 and 1/2 hours and we saw and learned so much I’ll leave a link in the
description below so you can book yourselves on the tour It’s completely free and it’s
very rewarding Honestly you can’t come to this amazing city and not learn about its
extremely bleak history because it only makes Hiroshima more interesting And honestly
we can’t wait to come back explore and learn even [Music] more Okay we’ve just finished the
free walking tour We did give her a nice tip of uh 4,000 yen because we thought it was really
good It was a couple of hours We learned a lot of history We learned a lot about the darker side
to Hiroshima and some of the gruesome facts which we won’t go into but it’s well worth coming
to do that tour Anyway it’s now time for lunch We’re hungry now No breakfast And part of the
tour was learning about okonamayyaki which is a local dish here which we’re thinking
we might go and have for lunch [Music] It smells so good And it seems
like it’s like a conveyor belt right This guy right in front of us he
starts the process of cooking it And once he’s finished adding all the base
ingredients it then moves along and the guys at the end continue cooking it add
more things to it Soon we’ll be able to try This is fun Okay that was really really delicious and very
very different to Asaka style I think it’s quite natural to try and compare which one’s best
a Saka style or Hiroshima style but they’re both very different In my personal opinion a Saka
style eats better Anyway I’ll leave a link to this particular restaurant in the video but there
is 600 restaurants in Hiroshima city center that sell this dish because obviously it’s so
famous Anyway off to the next destination [Music] Luckily for us we still have our train
passes which entitles us to travel on Hiroshima’s local trains So we jumped aboard and
headed 45 minutes south to a very special place [Music] Okay welcome to Miaima We’ve
come here for one reason really and that’s to look upon the beautiful
Tori one of Japan’s most three scenic [Music] viewpoints Now this famous red gate
okay it normally looks like this reflecting beautifully in the water and
it gives it that famous illusion that it’s floating on water But something I didn’t
know until just coming here is that it’s very affected by the tides And since it’s low
tide right now it looks like this [Music] [Applause] [Music] We can get right up to it That’s made out
of wood It really is quite magnificent The trees they must have found here to
build these structure is very big It’s very impressive And how unique that
we can actually walk through it At least now we can walk right up to it
and find our own little spot [Music] Well this is definitely very unique We’ve
actually been able to take nice pictures down underneath it walk through it and there’s
loads of space We’ve got an entire beach What do you think It’s pretty cool It is
pretty cool And then every so often the sun comes behind the clouds and it really
illuminates beautifully in the sunlight The flashes of gold sparkle in the sun It’s
gorgeous Just like right now Miaima is very touristy guys And it’s packed But
we still really enjoyed our time here [Music] And if you ask me I think if we stayed
on the island for a night that would be the best way to go because most of the tourists us
included left the island in the afternoon So I think if you stayed on the island you’d
be able to really enjoy this beautiful part of Japan in much more peace and quiet early
in the mornings and late in the evenings Oh we’re very lucky You know why After another delicious dinner at Msato’s
restaurant the next day it was sadly time to leave Hiroshima and head further
south Our train pass came in handy again and soon enough we arrived at
the quiet village of Iwauni [Music] Oh if I cannot stop this you
need to stop it Okay Thumbs up or thumbs down Thumbs like this in the middle One of the things that I really wanted to do on
this trip to Japan was visit a small town visit a random little place away from many of the big
major touristy hubs of Asaka Nara Coyoto Tokyo etc And I put in to chat GBT I said “Recommend
me a scenic beautiful little village that not many people know about not many people go to.”
and it came up with this little village here of Iwauni So we’ve got two nights here Now you
do need to purchase a ticket to walk across the bridge but it does include a couple of
extra things including entrance to the park entrance into the castle and the gondola ride up
and down to it which I’ll show you in a minute This is a beautiful beautiful bridge
and a great piece of Japanese history interactive style What do you think It’s
pretty It’s really nice isn’t [Music] it Very very pretty [Music] Oh my god [Music] You little beauty It is so beautiful up here Amazing views
the blossom trees in full bloom and the castle lit up in this beautiful sunny day And then just when
you think it can’t get more tranquil and peaceful you keep seeing signs saying “Beware of the pit
vipers.” I really hope I don’t get bitten by a deadly poisonous snake today [Music] Are you glad
we came here now Yes We were a bit unsure when we first got here yesterday We thought the town was
a bit strange cuz where we’re staying it’s just a bit odd We thought “What are we doing here?” But
today it’s gorgeous We’ve really seen the beauty of this place haven’t we Mhm I mean it’s not
a big city so small Yeah Look at that Gorgeous Now we’ve seen loads of these Japanese
castles during our trips to Japan but we’ve never actually gone inside one We found
Japanese weapons suits of armor It was so cool and the whole vibe inside and the views of
the village from the top were truly epic Last year when we came to Japan we hit all the
touristy hot spots Kyoto Nara Tokyo And this time it’s just nice to tick off something
that I’ve always wanted to do which is go into a more rural quieter part of Japan And
it’s just as equally as beautiful It’s just as magical just without all the thousands of
tourists which is nice It’s a nice change of pace Altogether we had two nights in Wauni and
we certainly enjoyed the quieter pace of life But we had to keep on moving And since our
train pass was starting to run out we jumped on a bullet train and headed a few hundred
km south to one of Japan’s coolest cities Fukayoka is home to a few million people and is home to great shopping cool sights
and sounds and lots of delicious food We made it Welcome to our
final city on this trip Kukaka [Music] We walked around and found our hotel
checked in Miss P was really happy with the room It was really clean really big really nice
and she really liked the bathtub and plenty of room for the both of us Now we were really keen to
explore this city But our train pass was running out In fact the next day it was no longer valid So
we jumped on a local train to use it as much as we could And there was a really beautiful scenic
place on Google Maps I’d seen that I wanted to visit not too far away We heard this was uh very
very big and very very beautiful And coming all this way you can see that it is uh it’s beautiful
This is the first time in Japan that nearly every person here we can overhear is speaking Thai I
think this is very popular with Thai and Chinese people Obviously it’s very important beautiful
Buddhist statue And this is actually a really accessible city from Bangkok from Thailand Air
Asia fly here direct Very cheap flight So this is a really great way to see Japan on a budget
Just fly to Fukuyoka Great shopping great food They had this strange challenge at the statue
I’ve never seen this before People were trying to balance a coin on the imprint of the soul
And amazingly I had a quick go and it worked I best put a lottery ticket on e We then made
our way back into town and this was sadly the last time we could use our train pass The seven
days had flown by but we still had two more nights to explore the sights of Fukoyoka We had
some ramen and the remaining afternoon we simply explored the city on foot We did some shopping
we walked around and we found this awesome park This is Chry Park It’s a great place and I highly
recommend it because if like us you need to walk off some of the insane amounts of calories from
eating nothing but delicious food in this city then yeah you’re going to need to come here
We also saw lots of people on route to what looked like to be a baseball game I quickly
checked Google Maps and saw that there was a nearby stadium only 15 minutes away had a quick
look on the Cluke app and saw that there was actually tickets still available for a good price
So me and Miss Paige just thought why not [Music] [Music]
Oh cheerleaders We had never seen a Japanese game before
and we thought it would be fun and that’s exactly what it was The crowd the music
the mascots the cheerleaders the girls selling draft beer from their backpacks all
added to a great atmosphere [Music] As for the game well the less we talk about that
the better Let’s just say baseball is the equivalent to watching paint dry Nothing
really happens for hours on end and so they have to do anything and everything in
their imagination to keep the crowd engaged [Music] [Music] that being said 3 and 1/2 hours later we could safely say we enjoyed the experience
and I do recommend it if you’re in the [Music] city And that ladies and gentlemen is
almost the end of our trip We did have one last full day which we spent mostly eating Japanese
food is just so much better when you’re here in Japan Just like Indian food tastes better in India
or how pizza just tastes better if you’re in Rome These meats these noodles everything you eat just
tastes better in Japan Except for this place This place sucks We might have to queue up Yeah So
we’ve actually been in Fukayoka now two nights already Mhm And we’ve just been chilling doing
some exploring going to the baseball just getting to know the city We really like We really like it
here don’t we It’s it’s it’s one of the coolest cities we’ve been to in Japan It’s the perfect
blend It’s not super busy It’s not super touristy but there’s enough to do and enough to explore and
some good shopping And anyway just opposite our hotel Our hotel is literally that brick building
there Looks quite pretty at night And across the street from our hotel is this famous street with
all these street foods vendors We did come down here the other night but it was a bit cold and
windy and it was very quiet and not much going on But tonight it’s really busy really happening
and there’s a lot more stores open so we thought we would come down here and maybe try and try some
of this Japanese street food Yeah Just randomly pick one because everywhere has a long queue So
just I randomly pick one I’m I’m sure they all pretty good It looks pretty as a picture and the
vibe here is great But yeah these meat sticks were the saltiest things I’ve ever eaten Now it was fun
to sit here with all the other people It felt like we were sitting in a painting The vibes were 10
out of 10 but the food was 1 out of 10 But ladies and gentlemen that’s it That’s our time in Japan
over for now We had the best time and it was a great to experience new places and we can’t wait
to come back In fact if you could let me know in the comments below which part of Japan we should
visit next year I would really appreciate that If you’ve enjoyed this video and you’ve made
it all the way to the end please leave a like and subscribe to the channel Thank you so much
for watching and I’ll see you again next week

Just in time for our trip to Japan! Really helpful information in this video thank you Paddy! ❤❤❤
Japan has been on my list since I was ten years old.
I just turned 60 years old, so that's 50 solid years (half a century) of wanting to visit Japan. Especially Hiroshima!
Love that you showed this side of Japan! (one bike per decade of wishing!)
My SO and I are traveling to the Tohoku region (North Japan) in July. A beautiful region often overlooked by travelers.
Nice video. I enjoyed it! It felt much better prepared and fun compared to your other Japan videos.
Train Pass Sounds like a great deal mate. I did a urail pass back in 92 in my budget days. Just jumped on the train every night to save money. Good to see ya traveling with the wife. Enjoyed the video – I love Japan, mostly in winter. Really there several little elves in the vending pizza machine making the pizzas.
As someone who played baseball in high school, I'm a little offended by your comment. Lol, just kidding, I totally understand how it doesn't appeal to everyone—especially if you didn't grow up watching it.
Japan is such a cool and unique place. When I lived in Korea, I made a couple of visa runs to Fukuoka. And Osaka, well, a couple of times some friends and I hopped on a plane in Seoul, flew to Osaka, and had fun long weekends there back in the day. Great food city.
Honestly, if there is a country in Asia that I don't like, I haven't been there yet.
It's nice to see Miss P's personality coming out a bit more in each new video. Oh, and if you haven't already been there, I recommend Kyoto for your next visit. If you have already been there, then head up north to Sapporo.
Where in Japan would you like us to travel to next?
Niiice. Been lookin forward to this Japan adventure.❤
Try Kanazawa on the west cost _ great mix of old heritage and a vibing modern city. My favourite experience was travelling to the ancient village of Magome-juku in the mountains near Mt Ena and hiking the 400-year-old Samurai Way to Tsumago-juku, a town established in 1601 and retaining much f its original charm. You'd love it!
