prepare yourselves for a journey into the heart of Japan let’s go first stop hamamatsu Castle now I know what you’re thinking another Castle but trust me on this one this ain’t your Disney castle built in the 16th century it’s seen its share of battles Samurai and Shoguns you walk through the stone gates and you’re transported back in time the air is thick with the stories of the Samurai who walked these grounds the architecture is classic japanese all elegant curves and intricate details from the top of the castle you can see the entire city of hamamatsu spread out before for you it’s a site that will stay with you long after you leave so take a deep breath enjoy the view and remember every stone here has a story to tell now let’s get out of the Sun and into something a little different the hamamatsu Museum of musical instruments might sound a little dry but trust me this place is anything but it’s a Sonic Journey around the world a celebration of the power of music they’ve got instruments here you won’t believe everything from ancient flutes to experimental electronic gizmos you can tap out of the beat on a gaman from Indonesia blow into a djedo from Australia or strak Kora from West Africa it’s a universal language and this museum is its Embassy they have interactive exhibits where you can actually play the instruments experiment with different sounds and find your own Rhythm but the real magic happens during their live performances they have musicians from all over the world playing traditional and contemporary music The hamatsu Museum of musical instruments concert Halls theaters art galleries you name it tonight we’re catching a show at the main concert hall this place is a masterpiece of modern architecture all soaring ceilings and perfect Acoustics grandma’s Apple Pie that’s for sure first of all let’s talk about unaji it’s freshwater eel grilled over charcoal and CED with a sweet and savory sauce it’s delicious man but here’s where it gets weird they make it into a pie it’s crispy it’s flaky it’s buttery and it’s got that Umami kick from the eel that will have you craving more you can watch them make these little Devils from scratch and the smell alone is enough to make you drool they’ve got a whole gift shop dedicated to unaji pie with different flavors and varieties the unagi Pie Factory is a testament to the Japanese Love of All Things delicious even when it’s a little bit strange after all that unaji we’re in desperate need of some spiritual cleansing so we’re heading to Riot tanji Temple a Serene Oasis in the Heart of the City this ain’t your typical tourist Temple folks this is the real deal a place where people come to meditate to pray to find a moment of Peace you step through the temple Gates and you can feel the energy shift the air is quiet still almost heavy with a sense of Tranquility the temple itself is a beautiful example of traditional Japanese architecture with its sweeping roofs intricate carvings and peaceful Gardens this is a place to reflect to recharge to reconnect with something bigger than yourself so take a break from the sensory overload and spend an hour or two at Riot tanji Temple all right enough with the temples and the Zen let’s have some fun hamanako Garden Park is the perfect place to let loose and embrace your inner child this sprawling park has something for everyone amusement park rides Botanical Gardens a petting zoo even a goddamn Musical Fountain show you can spend the whole day here wandering through the themed Gardens taking a spin on the ferris wheel or just chilling by the lake watching the swans Glide by and if you’re feeling really adventurous you can even rent a swan boat and paddle around yourself just try not to fall in for the kids there’s a giant playground a petting zoo with all sorts of furry friends and of course the amusement park with enough rides to make your head spin the parents might need a nap after this one but the real highlight light of hamano Garden Park is the flower festival so grab an ice cream cone hop on a ride and enjoy the simple pleasures of [Music] life now if you thought hamino Garden Park was impressive the lay of the land take in the big picture and there’s no better place to do that than from the okura ACT City hotel observation deck this is the tallest building in hamamatsu and the view from up here is nothing short of breathtaking you can see the entire city spread out before you from the mountains to the sea on a clear day you can even see Mount Fuji in the distance the best time time to come up here is right before Sunset the sky turns into this crazy canvas of colors from fiery oranges to deep purples they’ve got a bar up here too so you can grab a drink relax and soak it all in so if you’re looking for a moment of reflection head up to the aura act City hotel observation deck for our final stop we’re going back in time not literally of course although with all the sake I’ve had on this trip who knows we’re heading to shente a beautifully preserved Edo period house that will transport you back to the days of Samurai and geishas this place is like a time capsule man the house itself is a work of art with its traditional tatami floors sliding paper doors and Serene Gardens you can practically hear The Whispers of the past as you walk through the rooms they’ve got all sorts of artifacts and furniture from the Edo period on display so you can get a real sense of what life was like back then it’s amazing to think that people actually lived here you know went about their daily lives fell in love argued dreamed just like we do today they have traditional tea ceremonies calligraphy demonstrations even gisha performances shuin is a reminder that the past isn’t just something we read about in books it’s something that lives on in the places we visit the stories we tell and the traditions we keep alive so take a step back in time and experience the beauty and
