Our Japan family getaway: What do do in Fukuoka with a 1 year old

Hello and welcome to Hokua. And hey everyone, we have been staying in Fukoka now for 5 days and we’re starting to get familiar with the city. Having a lot of fun here, April, we’re here with Tokyo and we’ve been able to explore quite many interesting things so far. What we love about Fukuoka is that seems less crowded, less touristy. We’ve been to Osaka, Kyoto, and Tokyo before. So, if you’re looking for a place that that’s more laidback during peak season, like cherry blossoms, aurora season, check out Koka with your family. Beautiful. Beautiful here. So, yeah, let’s see what we get into on this video. We’ll just be documenting our journey as a family going around, you know, that duties stroller. And we are taking a train today from Yukim station. We have arrived at this very local cute place. The zifu. The zifu. One hour. No. Yeah. About 1 hour of travel. Tokyo has been very patient with us. You’re doing great, Tokyo. There’s a lot of students here because students go here to this temple that we’re going to visit today or this shrine cuz you get good luck as a student and get good grades. So, you know, I should have I should have went here 20 years ago, but really matter. Doesn’t matter. Do you use your I don’t use my grades, but at least we have a diploma. I’m sure I will get some good spirits from this place. Hopefully for Tokyo for Tokyo’s grades future grades dean students. Wow, look at this street. Tokyo. Oh, you haven’t tried this yet. But this is called ice cream. Oh my gosh. Should we? I think I think we should. I think it’s time. Ice cream. You want to do ice cream now? Not now. Wait. Imagine her energy. That’s true. With sugar. It’s also Sakura season right now here in Japan. So, a lot of the trees have these pink flowers on them. It’s beautiful. It’s a little chilly, but we’re doing our best. Are you on Tik Tok or something? Have I seen you on Tik Tok? Hello. Hi. Yo, check out A’s Tik Tok page, guys, if you want to get some cool travels uh tips in a different format. She’s doing a great job over there. We’re about to enter the shrine. But before that, photo of Hi We have never seen anything like this before. Very cool. This place you found. Yeah, it’s nice. What a cool bar. Natami. This is perfect. Look at this. This is how they eat here in Japan. They have English menu and English menu. We don’t have to translate it on the app. And then look in the back of these beautiful garden. Stunning. Look at that. There’s even a waterfall in the back. Here’s what I’m having. I got the tempora set. I think this is like delicious food. Amazing place to sit and eat when you have a baby. You can just walk around and be part of the table without falling off the chair. So, that’s great. And now we’re approaching this temple, the shrine. Very nice place. Look at this arch. Beautiful. All right, guys. A little bit of a diaper change. And uh it’s always so easy to find these sort of places where it’s possible to do the diaper change. So, Japan is a very easy place to travel to people with a small baby. So, this is the bowl that you need to touch if you want to get lucky in school and get good grades. And this is where the sacred place begins. You see how the people are during Sakura season? It’s not too overwhelming with tourists, you know, in Kyoto and Osaka. Oh my gosh. It’s hard to take a photo, but there are some moments when there’s no people. Actually, that’s when you take a nice photo, right? Yeah. What’s nice about this shrine is that there are cherry blossoms right beside it where you can take photos. And we’re so lucky to even catch it in full bloom. He’s falling asleep. Well, not a bad place to sleep, huh? Look at this. All the cherry blossoms in full bloom. How lucky are we? We’re also very lucky that we found this spot where it’s nice to take a photo. Some people are even wearing kimono, so probably you can rent it from the outside of the shrine. Honestly, I’m very happy that we made a decision to spend cherry blossom season here in Fukuoka where it’s less crowded than Tokyo and Osaka. Good morning everyone. We just checked into Cross Life Hotels here in Tenjin. Sort of like a more hip area and we’re very excited to stay here. We’re going to be staying here for two nights and explore the area. All right, checking in. We’re on the 13th floor Tokyo. This is all our luggage, guys. One and a half for Tokyo. Yeah, one and a half for the baby. Are you ready to see your room together? Room tour of Tokyo. Amelia in cross life. Tenji. Wo. Wow. So much space. Yes. For the boss to play. Wow. Nice. Wow. Look how big our room is. Tokyo. Here is the bathroom, guys. Very nice. And it has the famous Japanese rest toilet. Yeah. toilet where everything is pushed here on the side and you can clean uh and wash yourself. It’s actually amazing. And in Japan, they have these wash rooms like a the shower is its own room. It’s actually very nice to shower there. Super happy about this place. And then here there’s some blinds. I think if I turn them, it goes into the room on the back there. Pretty cool. Then walking out, what I love is that this hotel also has these hooks. Believe it or not, they tend to forget. Yeah, it’s for the coat. Especially for winter, spring, and autumn. And down here is a lamp as you guys can see. Papa can read. Did you have a look at the watch yet, Tokyo? I saw you playing with this. Papa will leave that there. And then over here there’s a chair. I might sit here and do some work later. Very nice with the view of Fuka or Hakata City. You can even see some ocean. Oh, there’s an ocean view. There is an ocean view. You guys see that ocean view? And then down here, fridge. Let’s have a look. I mean, some people might consider staying here. Wow. Great. Yeah. And then we have some tea, water heater, coffee, thermals, cups. Ooh, and a safe. Nice. Very cool. So, if you have some valuables, you know, at least you have a safe available in your room. Then we have a TV and a large double bed. Before anything else, I always find a spot where I can put Tokyo stuff. This is going to be her side. But before that, I have to sanitize it with alcohol because I’ll be laying all of her stuff here just so it’s easier for me to see what she has and what’s running low, you know, like the diapers, milk, and all. So, that’s what we’re going to do. Where’s the cat? She has her own suitcase, but that’s not it. There’s more. Half of this is hers as well and mine. So, mama only gets to have half of the suitcase. Papa has his whole suitcase because papa likes to thrift in Japan. Me, I thrift for Tokyo. Now, I’m so happy because the outfit that she’s wearing right now, we bought it from a thrift store and it’s all Ralph Lauren, which is, by the way, expensive if you buy it brand new, but we don’t have that budget. So, secondhand it is. Okay. Oh, this shirt is also thrifted. We’ve been here in Japan for I think this is the seventh day now. And for today’s agenda, it’s really not that much because Martin needs to work at 5. So, we’ll probably just check out some nearby tourist spots and do a little bit of baby shopping because I love Japanese baby products. Okay, let’s unpack Baby Tokyo stuff. We have fixed Tokyo setup. These are all for her milk and food for changing her diapers. I need to buy more diapers. And this is Papa’s setup. Okay. You have your own space there now. Thank you. Okay. Meanwhile, the little girl, she wants to help, but she’s not really helping. Sig, are you going to dry up your clothes? I love that there’s a lot of space in this room because it’s not so common here in Japan to have a big space like this. It’s mostly half of the size. So, you know, for families, this is perfect. She’s annoyed because she can’t get out. She wants to go to the bathroom. Oh, I know. How are you going to solve that? Welcome to Ohi Park. Today’s a beautiful day. We’ve been blessed with a sunny weather. It’s Sakura season. Here in this park, you can do a lot of activities such as boating with a swan boat. Bike. I see people uh bike around. There’s some uh what do you call this? Play parks. Also, it’s a really big park and it’s right in the center of Fukuoka. We were actually looking for restaurants in the area where our hotel is, but it’s mostly a place that comes to live at night. So, not all the restaurants are open there. So, we decided, you know what? Let’s try to eat in the park and see if we get lucky. And I can smell some really good cooking here. Let’s see. Maybe we’ll we’re lucky we’ll get a view as well. All right, let’s try this restaurant. Royal Garden Cafe. Sounds exactly what we’re looking for today, guys. When we’re out eating, I’m don’t know if I mentioned this, but we always use this app from Google. And you just scan it over. You just have to make sure up here that you turn it from, let’s see, from no, obviously from Japanese to English. Hey, mama. Hello. This is nice date. It’s nice that we The weather is nice now, you know. So, I must say that this restaurant is really nice. I’m happy. Like, well done. Check out the vibe here. And there’s a view overlooking the park. And I think uh on a hot summer day, you might be able to sit outside. You can request. Actually, you can sit outside. Look, it’s gourmet time. Yummy. Wow. Tokyo. Yeah, Tokyo has a baby friend over here. Do you want to try fries, Tokyo? Oh my god. Let’s see. She tried fries for the first time. Let’s see the reaction. French fries. That was good. Yummy. Uhoh. All of a sudden, someone is turning around. No. Someone discovered fries. You want some steak, madam? Tokyo, look at that. Would you like some steak, madam? It’s so fun because this is like Tokyo’s third or second time in a high chair. She’s not commonly sitting like this. So, for us, it’s nice. It’s a little wind. Yeah, it’s becoming more to just bribe her part of our We need to bribe her, you know, normal way of living, not just always in the baby chair or in the stroller. For us as parents, this is fun. This is uh small wins. I guess if you’re a parent yourself, you know what I mean? It’s my first time to experience it. But uh yeah, small things in life start matters more again, which I think is really cool. things that you take for granted in your everyday life. All of a sudden, you start noticing it. We have had French fries for the first time and we’re obviously very happy because of that. And now we’re going to cross the bridge over to the island on the middle of the lake. So peaceful to walk around in a park like this with no cars, no traffic, no noise. Yeah, it’s in the middle of the city also. Kind of like Central Park of Fukuoka. Central Park, the big pair. And I love that every place here that we’ve been to is accessible for strollers and wheelchairs. Yeah. You saw a bird. She loves the birds. She does. The weather is so nice right now. How lucky are we? What’s nice about this park is that it’s easy to get here. There’s a subway, there’s a bus, everyone can come here. No. We see a lot of families, friends enjoying the park, and it’s all for free. Oh, there’s a duck. It’s Sokio’s first time to see a duck. Quack quack. Hello, duck. You’re saying hi to the duck, my love. Duck. Yeah, very good, duck. Good morning, everyone. Here is a real look into day nine on tour with Tokyo for the first time as parents. Just me and my wife and our baby. Quite challenging, but not impossible. I always wanted to give myself this challenge. Get some context here if you’re not familiar. What I’m saying is that we’ve been very blessed up until this point. We’ve always traveled with a grandma, you know, or a sister or a helper, someone to always help us out when we’re traveling, which is quite a different experience. Much easier, you know, always having someone to watch her. When you’re just two, that’s challenging. And I’m not going to lie, it’s been um it’s been quite an extreme uh journey for us. But at the same time, I feel very very proud of my wife and a little bit about myself. I’ve been able to, you know, inch my dad uh level a little bit up here, balancing different things and just learning, you know, how to do it. She has a her bag now, you know. Shout out to all parents who are doing it. You guys are amazing. And for me, this was very important to prove to myself that it is possible to travel with a baby that’s less than one year old. She’s currently 10 months old. You know, you don’t have to sit around at home and wait for life to happen. and you can bring them along. It’s possible to do it. I just think that uh traveling full-time, jumping, here we go, from country to country would be very challenging. But doing a 10-day trip here and there, I think it’s something that all parents with a baby should get into because you learn so much from that, you know, from coexisting in smaller spaces away from home, out of your comfort zone, having to work together as a team. It’s uh it’s really cool. It’s really cool. So, we’ve been growing a lot as a family on this trip so far. But it’s a beautiful day today in Hakata. It’s our last full day. And let’s see what we can do. We made it here in Yanagawa station. It’s very quiet. Actually, if you’ve been to the Zifu and you still have enough time, you can take a train without like transferring to any station to Yanagawa station. So, that’s nice to know if you have more time. It’s just for us, we make sure to just do one thing at a time a day because we have a baby. That’s why we’re here in Japan for 10 days instead of only four, five, or 1 week. Another thing that you also need to know when you’re here is to buy a Nemoa card. Although Ioka Suika can still be used here, it’s just that we forgot it in the Philippines. So, we had to buy one for 500 yen. It’s easy because you can pay using this in 7-Eleven in convenience stores, subways, bus. So, you just all you have to do is stop it up. And most of the stations and all stations has this to top up. Tokyo sleeping by the way. All we have to do is tap. So there you go. It’s 210. Okay, now we need to figure out if we can get taxi or canal boat sailing. It’s so nice to know that there is a taxi station right in Yanagawa station because we have to walk for about 15 to 20 minutes and it’s pretty cold even if it’s sunny. So, it’s nice to know if you have a baby or you have a handicap person with you that there is a taxi stand here. It’s so convenient. We found this restaurant that has tatami area which is nice for babies because Tokyo’s cruising now. She likes to walk around. So, it’s also safe for us. You know, it gives us a peace of mind that she can freely roam around without worrying if she’ll fall off the chair. What’s happening now? She’s busy with the chair. So, that’s nice. She’s going to play with that for about 10 15 minutes. So, I think it’s time to eat. We are having udon with beef and shrimp tempura. Tokyo’s having soba. Yeah. And she even has these babies. These restaurants in Japan are perfect when you have a small baby because they they can just walk around and you don’t have to worry them falling or anything. Yeah. Hi. Are you having fun? And these restaurants are not so like everywhere, but obvious doing a really good job with the research to find them. Yummy. Very good. And the canal tour is only like 3 minutes walk away from this place. Yummy. She likes it. Japan, man. They got to figure it out. So, this restaurant does not accept cards, only cash. So, make sure to prepare cash with you. 10 out of 10. So, good food. Delicious. I would almost say it’s worth taking the subway just to eat in this restaurant. And it’s not even even the main location of this of this place. So, now we’re going to go and do the main thing that we actually went here for. So, stick around. This is going to get really nice. Okay. Light to left. What are we doing now, guys? Hello. Today we are on a boat tour. Yes, canal boat tour here in Yanagawa. And we’re very lucky because now it’s cherry blossom season. We rented out this private tour through Cl. You can also do it in groups, but because we have a baby, we just thought that it’s better to do a private tour instead and not bother other tourists. Our shenanigans with our filming. Yes. So beautiful. Hello. Hi. Little baby. Hey. Say hi. I do you. Hey Google. It’s such a relaxing activity also. And what’s nice about this boat tour is that the engine is not There’s no engine. There’s no engine. Yes. So, it’s quiet, very peaceful. foreign. Wow. So beautiful. Last evening in Japan and we are checking out a very cool place here in Tenjin. It’s actually past Tokyo’s uh bed hour. It’s almost 8:00, but uh since it’s the last day, we decided, okay, let’s go out for dinner at night. Look how many luggage. Two people, one baby. So guys, we are heading back to the Philippines. Look at this big taxi we got. So good. Okay, time to go home, guys. We are 1 hour early before check-in today. And before we depart, we’re going to eat at our favorite Japanese fast food restaurant, which they have all over Japan. Not really fast food. It’s called Yoshinoya. Now, fun fact, they have these restaurants in the Philippines as well, but it’s not the same over there. It just doesn’t taste the same. Like, it’s not as good, right? But here in Japan, always a good time. affordable, cheap, and you kind of know what you’re getting. It’s easy to order beef and rice. Yeah, we just found this is like a Yeah. secure winner every time we eat. I think this is the seventh or sixth time on this trip where we eat in Yoshinoya. What’s that? Yes, that’s Papa’s phone. I built this little mini fort for her so she can’t escape. Place all the luggage around her. Let’s see if we can eat for 5 minutes without the baby. Wanting to climb everything. We’re not sure. We’ll try. I’m here. I lost the bed. She managed to escape. I thought I’d build something bulletproof, but nope. All right, Yoshino. Oh, yeah. La la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la.
