Flight Control Flex! (Boeing 737 Flight Control Check at Naha Airport)

It’s an unarmed Japanese standoff here at Naha Airport, flexing its spoilers like a sumo stamps his feet. This Boeing is facing off that ANA737 in its 12:00, but the inbound blinks first and quietly moves to its gate, deescalating the tension on the ramp. And with a swish of left and right rudder, that’s the flight control checks complete.

  1. Some planes are very polite and want to communicate with the passengers. They wave. Just like members of royal families. I have seen it many times during taxiing. Those bits and pieces do not move on their own. Someone took a decision to move them.

  2. That was gripping drama.
I notice that the rudder waggle seemed to have no effect on the nosewheel steering. I know some planes decouple the two, some of the time, but that was my first time seeing it.

  3. aah naha… been playing atc3, and believe me, before runway b was constructed, it's no fun playing as atc here as your stress level is rising very quickly, juggling the aircrafts movement (and that includes the military planes). no wonder china airlines flight 120 accident made some confusion in tower, because cargo and international apron couldn't be seen from here..

  4. Oh it’s real alright! This is funny! Using the angle showing the primary flight control checks into a commentary! Like the equivalent of a flash of headlights and a rudder kick the acknowledgment of thanks like a hand wave on the roads. Great again
