Updated: 10:51 PM EDT May 6, 2025
The Allegheny County Health Department ordered a Japanese restaurant to close on Monday after it failed to notify officials of an active sewage backup in a critical area. Sarku Japan, located inside the Monroeville Mall, was issued a total of five violations from the health department, stating in an inspection report that the facility was ordered to close due to an “imminent hazard of wastewater backing up into the kitchen.” Health officials said wastewater was seen backing up around the grease trap on the floor in the kitchen, with it doing so for five days, with no calls to the department for aid. The restaurant was ordered to fix the issue and clean the floors before reopening. To view the full inspection report, visit the ACHD’s website here.Download the WTAE app to stay connected with breaking news.
