The Schlayerturm is a medieval defense tower on the edge of Nuremberg’s old town. Dating back to the 13th century, it was part of the city’s former fortifications and now stands as a quiet reminder of its defensive past. The Kettensteg is the oldest surviving iron chain bridge in Europe, built in 1824. It spans the Pegnitz River right next to the Schlayerturm and is a popular pedestrian crossing with historic charm. Beneath us flows the Pegnitz River, which runs through Nuremberg. It’s about 115 kilometers long and shapes the city’s landscape with its many bankside paths and bridges.
