Launched in April 2023 as a sister brand of vegan cosmetics brand unleashia in its domestic market, sisua is known for its skin care-infused point makeup products.

On April 7 this year, the brand officially launched its Berry Shot Lip Tint in variety stores across Japan. More sales channels in the country will be available from May 7.

This comes after a pop-up event held at beauty retailer @cosme in Osaka last June, where the product was first introduced to the market.

“It was very well received and we had a lot of feedback immediately after its release. In particular, we received many requests for a restock, so we have now decided to officially launch it,” sisua said.

The brand is exclusively distributed by cosmetics trading company Cenqur Co Ltd in Japan.

According to the brand, a key feature of the Berry Shot Lip Tint is the incorporation of spicules — tiny, needle-like structures, often extracted from marine organisms and sponges, that are used in skin care as a natural alternative to microneedling.

Spicules are said to function as an exfoliator and help boost collagen production.

Similar to microneedling, spicules are able to penetrate through the stratum corneum, allowing the delivery of active ingredients deep into the skin and enhancing the absorption of these ingredients. This is particularly useful for conditioning dry, chapped lips.

In addition, the brand stated that the spicules are dissolvable and would “disappear” naturally from the skin.

“Not only does the product make your lips look beautiful when applied, but [the ingredients] also help retain healthy, moisturised lips over time.”

The lip tint comes in five colours that claim to blend in with any skin tone and are resemblant of freshly squeezed fruit juice.

Due to its strong adhesion, Berry Shot Lip Tint provides a long-lasting finish while its non-sticky texture makes it suitable for daily application.

The development of this product is particularly relevant amid the growing popularity of aesthetic treatments such as microneedling, which is a minimally invasive procedure that uses tiny needles to create micro-injuries in the skin.

These micro-injuries trigger the body’s natural wound healing response, leading to increased collagen production, subsequently reducing the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.

This process remodels the skin structure to repair and rejuvenate the skin.

However, due to the invasiveness and discomfort of the treatment, alternative products that offer similar functionality may carve out a space in the market.
