Okinawa Kudaka island tour(沖縄 久高島)
Kudaka Island, located off the eastern coast of Okinawa’s main island, is a small but spiritually significant island in Japan. Known as the “Island of the Gods”, Kudaka is deeply rooted in Ryukyuan mythology and traditional Okinawan religion.
According to legend, Kudaka Island is the place where the gods first descended from heaven and where the creator goddess Amamikiyo is said to have begun the creation of the Ryukyu Islands. As a result, the island has long been considered sacred. It remains an important site for religious rituals and ceremonies conducted by noro priestesses and other spiritual practitioners.
The island is about 4 kilometers long and 1 kilometer wide, with a population of just a few hundred people. Despite its size, it offers beautiful natural scenery, clear blue waters, and traditional Okinawan village life. There are strict rules to protect its sacred areas, and some locations are off-limits to visitors.
Visitors can reach Kudaka Island by a 15-minute ferry ride from Azama Port in southern Okinawa. The island is a peaceful retreat where time seems to slow down, offering a glimpse into Okinawa’s ancient spirituality and culture.
