A Truly Fantastic Day in Nagoya, Japan#travel
[Music] the next is meya Japan baby it was a 3 or 4 minute walk from ngoya Central Station to our hotel but it was only 8:30 in the morning and the Japanese are very strict on timing which meant we couldn’t check in until 300 p.m. on the dot and not a minute sooner still we prepared for that and even though we’d only had about 2 hours fitful sleep in over 24 hours the cold fresh 9 Centigrade clean air acted like we’re on amphetamines after leaving the highly polluted on average 36° temperatures of Bangkok so we left our luggage at the hotel and set off for breakfast at the well-known and recommended Fish Market only a minute’s walk away from the hotel and one of the reasons for choosing the location we were going to be staying in so we were really excited to go there and sample some of the inexpensive yet Super Fresh and delicious Seafood that in Thailand is well bloody expensive the only problem was the market stores were shuted up and wouldn’t open till 11:00 a.m. which I thought was very unusual for fish markets that are normally open before Daybreak so we decided to go to the coffee shop next to the hotel and eat there but on the way back we spotted a sushi restaurant that looked nice but also didn’t open till 11:00 a.m. and with that we decided we’d just have a cup of tea at the coffee shop and wait till the sushi bar opened the coffee shop which we’d probably have ignored if things had gone according to plan actually turned out to be a welcome Haven to while away the time well worth the visit but our minds were set on an early lunch at the sushi restaurant across the road the outside menu looked great the inside was intimate and inviting and the staff were very friendly and helpful but we had read that the chef could be a bit off hand which seemed to be confirmed when I was filming him and he sternly told me in English to sit down in a manner that made me feel like a kid being told off by a teacher you can find out more about the chef in an upcoming video where I actually got to talk to him the food operation was professionally handled with care and attention by the chef as the orders came in and it all looked great and I couldn’t wait to taste my own personal favorite [Music] oie Indescribable but I am going to try and describe it oi is the Japanese name for the edible part of the sea urchin referred to as the egg row but it actually comes from the sea urchins uh testicles it has a creamy consistency and a slightly sweetened buttery flavor that some people love and for obvious reasons I guess others don’t one tip to take note of is fresh oi should have a vibrant orange or yellow color a firm texture and a mild scent of the ocean avoid any sea urchin that looks dull in color mushy or has a strong fishy smell and to put it blunt ly taste like which is ironic because a smaller variety of OI is called baon oi which in English literally translates to horeshit but not because of its flavor I can thoroughly recommend this place it’s absolutely wonderful and the chef was very nice the staff were great uh thoroughly recommend it definitely we are coming back on Sunday when we come back to ngoya and this is nice too little van selling vento boxes all good stuff our next stop was to visit one of the most popular tourist destinations in the city so we got a taxi for 6 7 minute drive there with a really fun Taxi Driver okay all right got to go I m thank you very much I’m sorry bye-bye byebye have a good day thank you and you too thank you thank you I was particularly interested in visiting the temple due mainly to its connection to the founder of Japan but before I could take a look at the temple I was distracted by the flocks of pigeons that seem very comfortable with the surroundings and not at all disturbed by the flocks of tourists encroaching on what they obviously assume was their patch these beautiful but wildly misunderstood birds are no more carriers of disease and most undomesticated creatures they’re more intelligent than dogs and very clean and as I often say never assume always check and do the research before you judge these pigeons certainly knew when they were onto a good thing in fact I’ve never seen pigeons so fat in my life so I wasn’t concerned when one of them came to say hello say hello what what’s your problem smile look [Music] at a hard gym [Music] lad look at the co it’s not my shoulder is it where was I oh yeah OSU Temple was built in 1333 and move moved to its current location in 1612 by tagawa aasu to prevent from flooding I was particularly interested in visiting the temple due mainly to its connection to one of the three great unifiers of Japan tagawa aashu he was the first Shogun of the tagawa shogunate of Japan he ruled and brought peace to the country from 16003 till the Magi Restoration in 1868 the temple was destroyed in World War II and rebuilt in 1970 it’s dedicated to Canon the Buddhist goddess of mercy and compassion the main prayer Hall contains a wooden statue of Canon and the shimu kuji library beneath the main hall contains ancient Japanese and Chinese texts including the oldest known copy of the coii written in 1712 ad which contains the Japanese creation myth now I’ve seen a lot of temples in my time but U on is up there with the best there’s just something about it that draws you in and even with all the tourists I felt a kind of calm sense of Serenity while I was there maybe the pigeons helped I don’t know I would have liked to have stayed there longer but we only had enough time for one more mustsee attraction before we could check into our hotel and that was the hip interesting and unusual OSU Canon shopping arcade where if you wanted to you could jump down down the rabbit hole visit Alice in Wonderland and buy all kinds of Alice Trinkets and other really interesting stuff including my favorite the Salvador Dary clocks you want a clock I do if it’s just uh that prize if you want to take it home there’s a lot of things in here I want to take home I know it’s K in I’m late I’m late they even have a retro store where you can buy the kind of clothes I wore back in the 70s get lots of unusual souvenirs and bits and bats you don’t see everywhere personally I’m not a shopping arcade kind of person but I really enjoyed this one very much but we were glad to finally be checking into our hotel hotel room in fact I was so worn out that I just crashed and didn’t even film the room but here’s a couple of pcks of the room we stayed in and a composite of some of the reviews by other guests but at least I did remember to film the bathroom which was nice but be warn the toilet paper was so thin you could see through it once we were ready we set off for our first stop on what was going to be a very full evening and and this is what it looks like in the evening nice looks like Christmas but it’s actually February lovely we were walking the wrong way so we had to come back and we’re walking in unknown territory now we try down here I’ll recognize it when I see it’s there on the left wow yeah it’s only a small place it’s it said it’s a house V which means it was once a house so there it is why Market Brewery looks interesting we’ll see there’s the brewery sounds quiet oh smells good [Music] [Music] like that white reflection thank you Alig so first impressions we came here and we ordered some food that’s Curry and chips all right isn’t it yeah powdered Curry they don’t make it into a curry they just give you the curry powder and then but it actually tastes quite nice nice smell as well let’s see what the beer tastes like Belgium strong Stout and golden Stout it’s got a very interesting taste it’s kind of sweet with a bitter back to it interesting and very pleasant Bitter [Music] Sweet next dish is three kinds of sausage and this sauerkraut and French must I’ve got to admit that we’re actually not totally impressed with the place we like the looks of it and the staff were friendly enough but the selection of beers were not great we’re going on a PO crawl how English is that next stop Master’s Dreamhouse Central Station Jr gate Tower 13th floor D du in the west you don’t see many places with the 13th floor and we had a hell of a time finding it even when we called the bar we couldn’t get a positive direction so I was beginning to think it didn’t really exist after all it was on the 13th floor and it was called Master’s Dreamhouse so I was beginning to think if we ever did find it we might never get back to reality again I got to stop watching so many horror movies the first one we tried was Master’s malt all right pretty straightforward next one Master’s dream doesn’t taste much different from the first one third one I couldn’t pronounce it but it was an ale must be me doesn’t taste much different than the first one and the second one and the last one is black black the best one for the tasting set and for the four small slices of prawn with corn and but on it which were actually quite nice 550 back can’t complain thank you very much and now you know we’ve had a long day so it’s probably time for us to go to the oyster bar and have something there let’s have a look menus outside wow wow wow darling I’m in I’m in darling 50% off and get off is that H is that oi oi and look at the size of that muscle this is looking good you want champagne champagne and oy and then look like good oyers to be recommended by the chef haugo AAL 760 B per [Music] oyster full boded tasty chewy very fresh it just jumped out of the water straight onto your plate and serve really quickly and prepare so you don’t have to get the knife and separate it from the [Music] shell goes down well with the NAA Jin Scott Wilkinson’s NAA Jin you hear the word NAA it’s always going to be good and that and that believe it or not cost us 1,278 on the way home we stopped to get a night cap and drank the sake we just bought as we enjoyed watching the thick Mist descending over the nearby highrise and reflecting on our fantastic day the next morning I thought I was suffering from post fun depression but it was an omen of something worse to come and when my order of eggs benedict arrived with an almost uncooked egg my mood didn’t improve so I sent it back and went to check out the buffet only to find out that the reviews were dead right the bre bre menu could definitely be improved so I had a bit of cake and a fruit juice and tried to cheer myself up by thinking of our next stop the hopefully snow covered takayama and as for ngoya well disregarding breakfast our first day back in Japan had been a blast hope you can join us on the next stop till then take care and thanks for watching
A very full, fun day in Nagoya. Visiting Alice in Wonderland, a very special Temple, going on a pub crawl, eating incredible food and most within 10 minutes’ walk from our hotel.#trending
