OSAKA (Kyodo) — A man who was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after driving into seven elementary school pupils in Osaka was sent to prosecutors on Saturday, local police said.
Yuki Yazawa, the 28-year-old driver arrested at the scene, was quoted by the police as saying, “I was sick of everything. I tried to run over and kill the elementary school pupils.”
A car plowed into second- and third-grade pupils on their way home around 1:35 p.m. on Thursday, leaving two seriously and five slightly injured, the police said. No brake marks were found, suggesting no attempt was made to slow down.
The vehicle had been rented near JR Shin-Osaka Station on Tuesday, investigative sources said.
