Seasonal terrace dining by the river returns to Kyoto eateries

KYOTO—The summer tradition of restaurants and eateries opening outdoor dining terraces that sit by the Kamogawa river began on May 1. 

Known as “Kamogawa Noryo Yuka,” about 80 establishments have raised wooden decks supported by piers along the 2-kilometer stretch of the Kamogawa river’s west bank.

The area sits between Nijo Ohashi bridge and Gojo Ohashi bridge.

With the Osaka Kansai Expo under way this year, the Kyoto Kamogawa noryo-yuka association hopes that the number of visitors will increase, with Hiroshi Tanaka, association head, inviting the public to enjoy a relaxing meal while cooling off. 

Outdoor dining is available until Oct. 15. Diners should note that the exact start date and business hours vary by restaurant.
