Exploring Kyoto: All the food we ate + Nintendo Museum Tour | 3 day Itinerary | Japan Travel Vlog
After an overnight ferry from Kyushu to Osaka and a full day wandering through its streets We finally made it to Kyoto This isn’t our first time here, but in Kyoto, it always feels like it is Over the next few days, we chased snacks and temples Had amazing food, and a lot of fun It wasn’t about checking things off a list It was about soaking it all in – at our own pace So come along This is our Kyoto After the Shinkansen we were starving! A delicious first meal in Kyoto! Now we need to head to our hotel Kyoto Station is particularly huge! It’s late so we’ll head to our hotel Not before going for our usual pre-bed snack! Our hotel is appropriately sized But tomorrow we begin exploring! First day, first stop. We made our way to Nishiki Market, also known as “Kyoto’s Kitchen” and you’ll soon see why. It’s a feast for the senses: bustling with colors, smells, and sounds. Our plan? Just wander through the stalls and grab whatever catches our eye. We love Japanese sweet potato! It looks so buttery it tastes like popcorn! I think we found our next snack! Egg for breakfast is always a good idea And these ones look so fluffy! It’s good! Is our next snack here maybe? They sell Snoopy shaped Taiyakis! And we got one Sharing but it’s now gone This fried seafood stall caught our eye Found the next snack! Let’s keep looking We wanted to try more unagi (eel) Definitely invest in good quality eel as its worth it! There’s still one place we want to visit! We love the tray system in bakeries Everything looks so good! Let’s choose This one looked unique! This was our haul! Let’s continue with our Kyoto exploration After all the tasting and treats, we felt like slowing down a bit. We wandered away from the market and let ourselves get a little lost That’s how we ended up by the river. Sometimes you don’t need a plan—just a good walk. Kyoto is always beautiful by the afternoon We’re walking through the canal here in Kyoto We’re heading to Sanjusangendo A temple with lots of Buddha statues We’re here! You cannot film inside the main hall The gardens and areas around the temple are beautiful! We recommend checking them out You have to take your shoes off before going inside the main hall This is how the main hall looks inside! After the temple, we marched straight to the Kiyomizu-dera area with one mission: snacks, souvenirs, and shameless photo ops. We were here for the full postcard experience Call it touristy if you want—we call it Kyoto at its most iconic. And we were all in I think it’s time for another snack run Had always wanted to try these cucumber sticks Our kryptonite: cream puffs We’re not going inside Kiyomizudera Temple this time! And also, it is already probably closed Instead, we will browse and window shop a bit around here! We didn’t buy the mug and now regret it Our wishlist here is big! There was still plenty to see, but shops were starting to close We kept walking through Gion toward the Kamo River our stomachs were already feeling lighter from the walk but we weren’t quite done window shopping just yet. After that, we had one more thing to look forward to our favorite dinner spot in Kyoto We ended up buying just the keychains This chicken ramen shop is one of our favourite places! We like to come here every time we’re in Kyoto Always lots of tickets The portions are huge Perfectly crispy chicken After dinner, we called it a night we were tired, and tomorrow, something totally unexpected was waiting for us. We got super lucky scoring tickets to the Nintendo Museum. It was one of the main reasons we decided to come to Kyoto in the first place, so the big day had finally arrived. Our cards are ready! This museum is located in Uji A town famous for its matcha and green tea production Let’s go in! Staff in Japan is always super friendly At the entrance you get explainer videos! The museum has 2 floors The interactive exhibits floor (aka games) And a historical display on the second floor You are not allowed to film on the second floor So let’s play! It’s now our turn! Thank you to the person who was recording us! we lost because we suck We lost! it was so cool, and a lot of fun Well at least i beat Martin Not true, we were tied, no one saw and it’s not on video who won We’ve played enough All that playing and we got hungry We will eat at the in-house restaurant You can customize your own burger And you do it through an app! Surprise! the bun is pink It’s a sweet potato bun! This gift shop is wildly popular they sell exclusive merch you can’t get anywhere else, and things sell out fast. They had these blind boxes with different Nintendo controllers GameCube, Wii, all of them You could only get one per person, so of course we each grabbed one… and both of ours were the same: Game Boy Advance. Luckily, this guy noticed and offered to trade! So we walked away with a mini Game Boy, a mini Wii… oh, and a giant Nintendo 64. A few minutes later and all of the plushies were sold out! This is what the second floor looks like! We show you the model as filming is prohibited We’ve seen and experienced all, so it’s time to leave So let’s go back to Kyoto I think it is still time for coffee (it’s 8pm) This is the School Bus Coffee Bakery, but there’s nothing left This is what’s left This will do Let’s unbox another blind box we got! Its from Pikmin! It’s cute! i think it’s like a ring holder we got more coffee from the konibini, and headed back to our hotel to rest! This is our last day in Kyoto We came to this bakery in Nishiki Market We actually wanted to go to Amam Dacotan but the queue was crazy long We weren’t expecting long queues on a tuesday It’s a tuesday! amd we got there 15 minutes before opening time Still, we came to this one that also looks fine There’s a nice garden to eat your bread All done! We’re walking towards the Gion area Because we want to go try traditional japanese sweets! Too bad this is our last day, we leave at 5pm! We’ll get on the Nozomi, the fastest Shinkansen We’re here! We waited around 10 minutes to be seated! We came for this! The Warabimochi We also ordered green tea shaved ice! You pour the tea over the ice It also has red bean paste! The warabimochi is hard to grip! because of its texture Once you dip it in the kinako (toasted soybean flour) it is easier to grip, and more delicious! We love this cat! After our sweets break, we kept things simple. We wanted to enjoy our last afternoon in Kyoto, so we chose a peaceful spot tucked away from the crowds. First up was Ryōzen Kannon quiet, beautiful, and just what we needed. They gave us incense to make an offering! This temple is actually a memorial for those fallen in the Pacific War It was a crisp November day, but we kept asking ourselves: where are the fall colors? Turns out, they were running late this year. Not wanting to feel disappointed, we kept going Next stop: Kodaiji Temple Parts of it were under construction, but the autumn chill was definitely in the air… and look! A little pop of orange after all. There is a little bit of autumn going on there This bamboo grove is a nice sight! There was a classic car gathering just outside the temple! It’s a nice viewing point from here! We came back to Gion, because Pablo wanted to see the area by daylight I want to go near the Yasaka Pagoda, and go through that street Maybe, with an ice cream cone Before leaving, we found ourselves back where we started wandering the streets around the Yasaka Pagoda. In the end, it wasn’t about seeing everything it was about finding the little pieces of Kyoto that felt like ours. The snacks, the side streets, the slow walks by the river. Every visit looks a little different and that’s exactly why we keep coming back. We’re now heading to Kyoto Station! If you enjoyed this video, please subscribe to our channel! Waiting for our Shinkansen! We’re now heading to Tokyo! So stay tuned for more!
