Walking through Japan 🏯 Culture Talk 🌸Shinjuku Morning Walk

things that don’t make sense in Japan. The beauty standard is very different. Japanese people do not shave down there, especially older generation, at least not the way it is in the west. Here is why traditionally having natural hair down there is seen as normal, even modest. In fact, going completely bare can cause lots of issues. The top reason for people to keep it natural is because of pressure from others. Sometimes people are being asked to go public baths with their friends or even with their co-workers. Speaking of taking baths, it is a Japanese culture to do it with other people. Yes, it is so weird, but it is a thing since people can see everything there. So, it is very embarrassing. If they were shaved down there, people would see it and it gives others opportunities to ask why they do it to remove the jungle since people want to avoid all these conversation. Many older Japanese prefer not to shave it. The new generation Japanese has different idea. On the other hand, they prefer to take care of themselves first. Comfort, hygiene, or aesthetics are the main reasons for them to shave.
