Japan’s Imperial Household Agency said Thursday its YouTube channel launched about a month ago has earned a “Silver” award from the operator Google LLC for achieving 100,000 subscribers.

The channel started posting videos April 1 and topped 100,000 subscribers a week later. The number had increased to around 126,000 as of May 1.

“We are grateful that many people are interested (in the agency’s channel), and we would like to make more efforts” to make its content more interesting, Maiko Fujiwara, the head of the agency’s public relations office, said.

The YouTube channel is part of the agency’s outreach efforts for the imperial family. It also has an Instagram account that has garnered some 1.9 million followers since its launch April 2024.
