US President Donald Trump has said he is in no rush to conclude a trade deal with Japan as well as with South Korea and India.
He made the comment in a telephone interview with US media outlet NewsNation on Wednesday. Trump was asked about when he will announce agreements with the three countries.
He answered, “I’m in less of a hurry than you are,” adding, “They want us, we don’t need them.”
Trump’s stance to appear aloof is apparently aimed at gaining the upper hand and strike a better deal.
Sources familiar with the talks say Washington wants Tokyo to come up with proposals that would help reduce US trade deficits with Japan.
