Nagoya might not be the first city that comes to mind when visiting Japan, but we spent a surprisingly packed and memorable day exploring this underrated destination. Our morning started with a nostalgic and uniquely Japanese take on breakfast—at Denny’s! From there, we headed straight to Nagoya Castle, where we were lucky enough to get a private tour from a kind and knowledgeable local who brought the history of the area to life.

We had plans to visit the Toyota Commemorative Museum of Industry and Technology, but things didn’t quite go as planned—it was closed. But no worries, we pivoted and made our way to the SCMaglev and Railway Park, where we got to see high-speed trains up close and learn about Japan’s cutting-edge rail technology. A dream for train lovers and surprisingly fascinating even for casual visitors.

To wrap up our quick trip, we dug into one of Nagoya’s most iconic dishes—miso-katsu—at a beloved local chain that serves it just right. Between the warm hospitality, fascinating sights, and delicious food, Nagoya left a great impression on us in just one day.
