Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba on Tuesday invited President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. to visit the World Expo in Osaka.

Ishiba made this remark during his bilateral meeting with the Philippine leader at Malacañang Palace.

“And this year, the Filipino Pavilion is becoming a popular destination for visitors, so I also look forward to welcoming you to visit the Osaka Expo soon,” Ishiba said.

Ishiba mentioned that the last time Osaka had hosted the Expo was in 1970, when both he and Marcos were still young.

“And I was briefed that you had a chance to visit the Expo during the 1970 Osaka event,” he told Marcos.

For his part, Marcos congratulated Japan on the successful opening of the Expo 2025 Osaka.

“We are excited and proud to be part of this Expo. The Philippine Pavilion focuses on nature, culture, and community to showcase the creation of a sustainable future,” Marcos said.

Launched early this month, the World Expo was joined by 160 countries and regions showcasing their technology, culture, and food, with host Japan hoping to provide the world with some much-needed hope.

Highlights at the show in Osaka until mid-October include a Mars meteorite, a beating artificial heart grown from stem cells, and Hello Kitty figures in algae form. — VBL, GMA Integrated News
