Japan Travel: Fun for the Whole Family at the Karuizawa Prince Ski Resort, Nagano 50
Kyu-Karuizawa (旧軽井沢), traditionally known as a post town used to connect the imperial capital of Kyoto with the shogun capital Edo (Tokyo), is the center of the Karuizawa resort area, located in Nagano Prefecture. From shopping to golf, onsen baths, skiing, and so on, the town is filled with fun activities for its visitors.
One of the first ski resorts in Japan to open each year, Karuizawa Prince Ski Resort, is located here in Kyu Karuizawa (an hour away from Tokyo by train). This resort uses man-made snow so only a few courses are available in the beginning of the season. As “natural” snow emerges during the winter, the resort stops using man-made snow and more courses become available to the skiers and snowboarders.
In addition to the 10 ski trails offered at the resort, there is a children’s park making the resort very child friendly. The children will enjoy the yummy food offered, especially Japanese curry rice, as it is a favorite among all children regardless of nationality. Karuizawa Prince Hotel, located next to the ski resort, has bowling alley as well as video game arcade for children to enjoy once they are out of the snow.
