Urban Exploration & Forgotten Histories
Join me on a journey through Eastern Estonia and nearby bordering Western Russia (Leniningrad oblast) as I explore the lasting legacy of the Soviet Union in towns like Jõhvi, Kohtla-Järve, Sillamäe, Narva, and across the Estonian/Russian border in Kingisepp.
This region is a hidden time capsule of Soviet architecture, Cold War secrets, and working-class history.
From decaying Stalinist architecture buildings to renovated Houses of Culture, this video dives deep into the visual and human stories left behind in the post-Soviet landscape.
Discover the secretive past of Sillamäe, once a closed Soviet town tied to uranium processing and nuclear development. Learn how this quiet coastal city played a critical role in the USSR’s atomic ambitions.
Uncover the layered legacy of Narva, Estonia’s easternmost city and a symbolic crossroads of empires. Nestled on the border with Russia, Narva bears the architectural scars of Soviet rule and the cultural imprint of centuries of East-West conflict.
Once a strategic Soviet frontier town, today it stands as a living monument to Cold War tensions, industrial heritage, and shifting identities in post-Soviet Europe.
Uncover the revolutionary roots of Kingissepp, a Russian town named after Viktor Kingissepp, the Estonian communist leader executed during the early of the Estonian Republic.
Once a symbol of Soviet ideological influence in the region, Kingissepp’s story reveals the deep political and cultural ties between Estonia and Russia during the USSR’s rise.
Learn how this border town became a living monument to a man whose legacy still echoes in the streets that bear his name.
In this episode:
-Tour of Soviet-era industrial zones
-Insights into Stalinist architecture and urban planning
-The story of the Kreenholm strike in Narva – Estonia’s first working-class movement
-The legacy of Viktor Kingissepp, the Estonian communist whose name lives on in Kingisepp, Russia
-Reflections on WW2 history across the Estonian-Russian borderlands
-Sillamäe’s hidden role in nuclear history and its top-secret Soviet past
Whether you’re into urban exploration, Cold War history, or just curious about the forgotten corners of Europe, this is a journey you don’t want to miss.

Really enjoying the animations!
Appreciate your travelogue and commentary. Well done! 👍
Good video, well researched. I work in uranium mining, I like the statue too.
I think it's on purpose they don't serve these areas because most of the people in this town from Russian Background and speak Russian it's so sad but the people wonderful and clean I wish them all prosperity and joy, great information from your side, keep the good work comrade
Great video!! Very interesting!
Awesome video! Looking forward to the next one! Вы молодцы!
Estonia and the Baltics as a whole are insanely Anti-Sioviet…..I'm surprised and pleased that they didn't demolish that Stalinist Dom Kultura or remove the Soviet Estonian Coat of arms at the top of the building. Even Bald & Bankrupt was harshly criticized by an Estonian nationalist, "Arthur Rehi" for daring to appreciate Estonia's soviet architecture…..
What a video mate! Appreciate the effort that went into it, thank you.
