The 2000-capacity Misono Universe was first established in 1956, as a cabaret in the basement of the larger Misono building. Over the years, it evolved into a music hall that platformed electronic and experimental music of all kinds, hosting the likes of Haruomi Hosono, Pinch, Acid Pauli, and DJ Nobu in past years.

Japanese band Boredoms’ frontman ∈Y∋ will headline the venue’s July 5th closing show, titled ‘FINALBY ( ).’ On support duties are local video artist Cosmic Lab and engineers-slash-programmers Kanta Horio and Niimi Taiki. Cosmic Lab will also produce the event—for the past 20 years, their main offices and studio have been located on the Misono building’s second floor.

Misono Universe marks the final business in the Misono building to close—a long-running hotel shut its doors in 2019, followed by a banquet hall in 2020 and a second-floor bar in 2024. The building is set to be demolished later this year.
