While most students rely on say a bus or train to get to class, Japanese pop singer Yuzuki Nakashima, spent four years taking daily flights to school.

Yes, flights.

The 22-year-old who graduated from Kitakyushu City University in March recently revealed in a vlog on YouTube about her daily routine.

Based in Tokyo, Yuzuki, who a member of J-pop group Sakurazaka46 made four-hour round trips daily to Fukuoka, about 1,000km away.

In the vlog, she shares how her mornings start with her waking up at 5am to do her make-up before leaving for Haneda Airport at 6am.

She would then catch the first flight to Kitakyushu Airport, landing at about 930am.

But the journey didn’t end there as she still needed to take a bus or taxi to reach the campus.

Each trip costs about 15,000 yen (S$138) and sees Yuzuki using the commuting time to finish up any remaining homework.

After the video was posted, netizens were impressed with her dedication, with one even calling her a “superwoman” for managing both university life and the demanding schedule of an idol.

However, long commutes aren’t foreign to Yuzuki.

Before even becoming a pop star, she also spent the same amount of time travelling from home to school.

“But because this is my dream school, I gritted my teeth and persevered,” she said.

Yuzuki also explained that she didn’t want her life as a student to overshadow Sakurazaka46’s performances, hence keeping it a secret until graduation.

Ending on an inspirational note, Yuzuki encouraged her followers to chase their dreams.

“If you have a dream, no matter how difficult it seems, be brave and go for it. Every second you spend chasing your dream will become one of the most valuable memories of your life,” she says.
