KARIMNAGAR: Union minister of state for home affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar on Sunday criticised Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy for travelling to Japan amid severe unseasonal rains and hailstorms that have devastated thousands of acres of farmland in Telangana. Speaking at a private event in Peddapalli district, Sanjay Kumar urged the CM to direct his ministers to immediately visit affected areas and extend relief to distressed farmers.
Sanjay Kumar accused the government of neglecting the agricultural community “in their time of crisis” and claimed that the administration’s inaction mirrored failures by the previous BRS regime. He warned that delayed compensation would deepen farmers’ hardships.
Turning to minority affairs, Sanjay Kumar labelled a recent AIMIM public meeting in Darussalam as a “Congress-sponsored event” and alleged that the Revanth Reddy government is collaborating with a “Waqf land mafia” under the pretext of minority welfare. Citing a Central Waqf Council report, he said India holds more than 8,00,000 acres of Waqf land valued at ₹10 lakh crore, over half of which he alleged has been encroached or misused.
“Where is the ₹12,000 crore generated annually from these lands going?” he asked, charging that instead of aiding poor Muslims, the properties have funded commercial complexes, hospitals and schools that offer no benefit to the needy. Sanjay Kumar accused Waqf authorities of trying to seize temple and gurudwara lands in Tamil Nadu, Haryana, Karnataka and Kerala, and claimed that in Telangana, MIM leaders control nearly 80 per cent of 77,000 acres.
He challenged the state government to publish a white paper detailing encroachments, beneficiaries and revenue allocation, and demanded swift ministerial visits to distribute relief to flood and hail-hit farmers.
