OSAKA (Kyodo) — Pinch-hitter Chusei Mannami crushed a three-run homer in the eighth inning Saturday to spark the Nippon Ham Fighters to a 7-4 win over the Orix Buffaloes in Pacific League baseball.
The 25-year-old outfielder broke a 2-2 tie when he launched his first pitch from reliever Luis Perdomo (0-1) into the stand behind left field in the top-of-the-table battle at Kyocera Dome Osaka.
With Perdomo pulled from the mound, Shun Mizutani continued the eighth-inning fireworks with a two-run blast to left off Shota Abe.
The PL leading Buffaloes added two runs in the bottom of the eighth but had their rally snuffed out with a pair of runners stranded.
The Fighters broke the ice when Go Matsumoto drew a bases-loaded walk from Orix starter Ren Mukunoki in the fourth, but the PL-leading Buffaloes went up 2-1 in the home half of the inning on Keita Nakagawa’s two run shot off Sachiya Yamasaki.
Nippon Ham tied it the next inning on Daiki Asama’s RBI single.
