Day 5 of the Kumamoto leg and the final ride in this part of Project 47 kicks off from my wild camp in Amakusa, where I hit the road before dawn to chase the sunrise at Kuatake Shrineโ€”a quiet, sacred spot high in the hills with a panoramic view that made the early wake-up totally worth it. ๐ŸŒ„๐Ÿ๏ธ

From there, I visit Einoo Shrine, another hidden gem wrapped in forest stillness, before setting myself a new kind of challenge: find a remote waterfall in the Kumamoto mountains without using Google Maps. No GPS, no techโ€”just road signs, local tips, and a sense of direction (kind of). ๐Ÿงญ๐Ÿ’ง

This episode is all about embracing the unexpected and going deeper into rural Japan. With the sun setting on my time in Kumamoto, this last ride was filled with those small, unplanned moments that make travel unforgettable.

Hereโ€™s whatโ€™s packed into todayโ€™s episode:

๐ŸŒ… Sunrise mission to the remote Kuatake Shrine
โ›ฉ๏ธ A peaceful detour to the serene Einoo Shrine
๐Ÿงญ A self-imposed challenge to find a mountain waterfall without GPS
๐Ÿ›ฃ๏ธ Off-grid mountain roads, tight turns, and stunning forest scenery
โ›บ Final reflections on camping, solo travel, and the wild beauty of Kumamoto

โ€”

โžค What is Project 47?
Iโ€™m on a mission to ride through all 47 prefectures of Japan solo, exploring beautiful backroads, camping under the stars, and connecting with the people I meet along the way. This is raw, real Japanโ€”seen from two wheels.

โ€”

๐Ÿ“If you love:

Raw, real solo travel in Japan

Off-the-map experiences and challenges

  1. So cool, I'm still looking for my ikigai sweet spot if it comes to biking. If you ever happen to be in greater Tokyo area you may visit Hirata-San, one, if not the, of the best knife smiths in the world (4-1209 Futamatao, Ome-shi, Tokyo-to). He's producing and using Tama-hagane for his knifes.

  2. If you ever do the tours you were talking about I would need a little time to budget for it, but I would love to fly there ride with you around that island for a while

  4. I really enjoying this series of traveling trough all of Japan, keep doing what you doing.
    Regards from UK

  5. Very glad that car driver didn't end this series early ๐Ÿคฆ. Other than the scary sitation this was a very nice ending video to the Kumamoto episode. It sems like wherever you go in Japan, you have a nice view waiting for you. Looking forward to seeing the next region.

  6. You always show us the beautiful stunning shots in your travels and it really makes me want to be there to experience it myself. Thanks for showing us around Kumamoto, itโ€™s been a blast following along getting to see the side of Japan that is rarely seen by foreigners. And thank god youโ€™re safe, I realized that no matter how cautious and skillful you are on a bike, all it takes is one oblivious person in a car to ruin it all. Stay safe out there sir! I canโ€™t wait for whatโ€™s next.

  7. Ending it with the waterfall was definitely epic and the shrine on top of the mountain was gorgeous! Anyways please, be extra careful when riding especially on the narrow corners of the mountain roads ๐Ÿ˜ข. Its only the beginning of the project 47, a lot more prefecture awaits, same goes to us viewers waiting for another episode of this awesome journey to be uploaded, so do take care and be safe out there! ๐Ÿ™Œ

  8. So long Kumamoto, wonderful area. Waiting patiently for the next prefecture. My favorite Japan series on YT.
Man, my heart was racing when I saw how close that car was, didn't realize it clipped you.

  9. What an epic, perfect ending to the last episode! โญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธ

  10. I was sleepy after a copious lunch with friends, and that scream sure make me awake haha
It was almost like I was there jumping out of the way of that car.
Glad nothing bad happened to, drive safe.

  11. Make me reminisce of my younger days hunting waterfalls on hiking trips. Looking forward to your next adventure. ๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ๏ธ๐Ÿฅ‚

  12. While watching some videos from India (Royal Enfield raw sound) I noticed bikers honking before such blind tight corners. But in Japan I see often those mirrors. Honking probably wouldnt be bad idea before each such corner. Nevertheless, beautifull ride.

  13. I've loved these series. You're riding the motorcycle on my wishlist in the province where I spend time during my studies. <3

  14. Stunning and Iโ€™m amazed at how quiet the roads are and the spirituality of that mountain ps love the tank bag my heart skipped at beat at that near miss ,I felt for you man ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

  15. Another great episode man, awesome ๐Ÿ˜Ž. I wonder, have you had a flat or any other standard issues whilst cruising around Kyushu?

  16. Did you have to change your shorts after that close call? ๐Ÿค” I've been there myself more than once, this happens a lot riding in the mountains. Beautiful roads and landscape, it reminds me of my North Georgia mountains back home. So much so, I want to move to Japan just for the riding. I'm currently in the Philippines, and making my plans to get there soon.
