Kowloon Peak

19th April 2025 – (Hong Kong) Hong Kong residents have a deep affection for travel to Japan, often playfully referring to it as “returning to their hometown,” especially due to their familiarity with iconic landmarks like Mount Fuji. Recently, a stunning photograph taken by a local man in Quarry Bay has captured attention online, showcasing Fei Ngor Shan (Kowloon Peak) against a backdrop of thick clouds, leading him to declare, “This is Hong Kong’s Mount Fuji,” while joking, “Since I can’t return to my hometown for now, I’ll just have to admire it here.”

The resemblance of Fei Ngor Shan to Mount Fuji has sparked widespread admiration on social media, with many users expressing interest in visiting the location for similar photographs. Comments have dubbed it the “Hong Kong version of Mount Fuji,” noting that it has become a new hotspot for social media posts, with one user quipping, “Who can claim ownership of Mount Fuji out of love?”

The profile of Fei Ngor Shan indeed bears a striking similarity to Japan’s famous peak, particularly when shrouded in mist that resembles a snow cap, complemented by the nearby cityscape, evoking scenes reminiscent of Fujiyoshida City.

The photo, shared on Threads, was described as a “work by my brother-in-law,” and was captured near the intersection of Healthy Street East close to the MTR Quarry Baystation, oriented towards Victoria Harbour. On that day, the blue skies and thick clouds provided a dramatic backdrop, with Fei Ngor Shan towering as usual, creating a rare natural spectacle amidst the bustling urban environment.

Netizens have praised the image, with many commenting that it looked so much like the real thing that they initially believed it was an actual photo of Japan.
