A tour of HARAJUKU, Tokyo, Japan – Takeshita Street & Meiji Shrine!

Hi everyone! In this vlog, I take you on a fun, laid-back journey through Harajuku, Tokyo’s iconic hub of youth culture and creativity. I’ll show you Takeshita Street and the nearby Meiji Shrine (Meiji Jingu), which are right next to each other—a fascinating contrast that highlights why Tokyo is such a vibrant and diverse city.

First up: Takeshita Street, where I dive into the world of street fashion, quirky shops, and kawaii culture. Harajuku is Tokyo’s street fashion capital, known for bold, creative, and sometimes eccentric street styles. The fashion here is a colorful mix that lets people express their personalities in unique ways—definitely a must-visit for anyone who loves creativity and individuality.

Next, I take you on a peaceful walk through the serene grounds of Meiji Jingu Shrine, one of Tokyo’s most beautiful spiritual spots. Located in a lush, forested area, it offers a calm contrast to the hustle and bustle of the city. Dedicated to Emperor Meiji and Empress Shōken, the shrine honors their spirits, though the emperor’s grave is actually located near Kyoto. Construction of the shrine began in 1915, a few years after Emperor Meiji’s death in 1912, and it’s a place that the imperial couple had visited in the past. Since Haneda Airport is close to the area, there are several planes one can spot flying over the forest.

Throughout the vlog, I’ll share fun facts, personal impressions, and little moments that caught my eye. Whether you’re planning a trip to Japan or just love exploring new places, I hope this video gives you a taste of what makes Harajuku so special.

  1. Daai lyk soos die plek waar elke anime en manga vandaan kom haha! Daai is net n heel ander kultuur haha! Nie seker ek sal daar inpas by daai besige kleurvolle plek nie! Daai saki barrels lyk awesome! Ek kan net indink hoeveel verskillende tipes is daar. Pragtige gebou. Ek dink Japan is n plek wat jy ten minste een keer in jou lewe moet sien! Geseende Paasfees vir jou Willie!

  2. Awesome video willie another filler especially shopping areas when walking around. Historically fact and other factual information to inform. 3. Hi Willie, baie dankie, awesome inhoud. Japan het my verwagtinge oortref, inderdaad. Ek moes glimlag oor die kondensmelk opmerking, my gunsteling ook😊 Geniet jou Paasfees, veilig bly! Groete:)

  4. Willie is on it again…! Thanks for bringing Japan to my sofa Willie. Never been to that side of the globe before. I religiously watch your vlogs from start to end. Sometimes I watching half of it over breakfast and the other half over dinner due to blinking work commitments. Not this time though, absorbed the Jappies way of life in one go. Keep up the great work. Lekker.

  5. Ah, Mr Willie … bringing back even more memories! I stayed at a hotel on Reinan Zaka near Harajuku … fun times, and some business, too. Meiji Jingu is beautiful, and only one of a billion gardens (my best guess!) in Japan!

  6. Geseende Paasfees Willie! Ek moet se ek geniet die parke baie meer as die shopping areas. Te besig vir my en bietjie oorweldigend. Dankie dat jy ons almal saam met jou vat op die education trips ❤️🕊❤️
