Day 3 of my solo motorcycle ride through Kumamoto Prefecture begins with history and ends with heartwarming hospitality. 🏯🌊🍻

Kicking things off at the iconic Kumamoto Castle, I dive into samurai history before heading west to what might be the most breathtaking shrine I’ve visited in Japan – Reigandō Cave, once the retreat of legendary swordsman Miyamoto Musashi.

From there, I set my sights on the Amakusa Islands, chasing sea breezes and sunset skies. I make camp by the water, where an unexpected encounter with a kind mother and her son turns into an evening of shared fire, food, and stories. These are the moments that make the journey unforgettable.

Here’s what’s packed into today’s episode:

🏯 Explore the historic and beautifully reconstructed Kumamoto Castle
🛤️ Ride through peaceful countryside toward the western mountains
🕊️ Discover Reigandō Cave, a sacred and spiritual site tied to Musashi’s final days
🏝️ Cross the bridge into the stunning Amakusa archipelago
⛺ Set up camp right by the ocean, with the waves as my soundtrack
🔥 Enjoy an impromptu night around the fire with locals – good food, cold beer, and warm conversation

➤ What is Project 47?
I’m on a mission to ride through all 47 prefectures of Japan solo, exploring beautiful backroads, camping under the stars, and connecting with the people I meet along the way. This is raw, real Japan—seen from two wheels.

  1. Thank you – these beautiful and kind 17 minutes with you in this rushing world! Truly warmed my soul. 😊🙏 Take care of yourself!

  2. The sounds of the bike, the scenery, the people. Thank you for sharing your journey with everyone. Truly a blessing!

  3. You know what they say, you meet the nicest people on a Honda haha. I always wondered if they are referring to the people riding a Honda or the people you meet while riding a Honda XD. anyways, loving this series. Ah to have the time and energy to do the same!

  4. 2:19 Scary dudes! Really appreciate the Miyamoto Musashi visit. Oh, and when you get to Iwate, may I suggest you pre-arrange a visit to Grand Seiko Studio Shizukuishi — I don't think you can film much inside but you will be in the shadow of Mount Iwate and the nature they take inspiration from for their watch dials.

  5. Another great episode. It is so cool seeing these random people being so nice and welcoming, Japan really seems great.
Sweet views, great people, memorable encounters and …a motorcycle. What is there not to like 😅

  6. This is literally my dream, planning to move to Japan with my friend to her hometown in 6years & looking forward to attempting something like this. Going back next month & going to rent a bike to do some touring in Shikoku where my wife is from!

  7. Adam, thank you for sharing your trip, this is an amazing mix of culture and a lot of fantastic motorbike footage. A perfect mix of food, camping, biking, nature, people and gb350s sound. Love it. You are making the trip i'm planning for way to much time and you took my fear about Japan's big citys by showing us that they can be avoided.
And go get provision from Honda! You are the reason my brother and i both just bought a GB350 after years of GS and Fireblade.
You rock man. Can't wait to see part 4 and the rest of Project 47.

PS: where can i get the rear luggage rack you put on your GB ? It's travel time here in Germany!

  8. I discovered this channel because of the motorbike my son loves. Now I'm the one who loves this channel. Beautiful landscapes, good narration, and peaceful music. Thank you YouTube algorithm. Thanks a lot Adam! From the other side of the world; Portugal ! 🍺

  9. I can’t wait to watch episode four your camera work and narration is off the chart. I’m living vicariously through you in cold southeast Michigan be safe Adam enjoy , From Kevin 🥶in USA 🇺🇸

  10. This trip shows you don't have to have a big bike to tour. Japanese roads tend not to be fast. I bet that combination of down underjacket and your leather jacket is really effective at keeping the cold out. I used to wear an MA-1 flight jacket under my leather jacket when I was riding in the cold in Japan.
Brilliant camping ground at the end. A welcome beer, I bet.
